Captive Static claims that it can write on a NTFS partition from Linux but so far I haven't managed to do that ....................... Captive Static If you want Windoze to 'see' the ext2/3 partitions you can use Ext2IFS (this driver offers only read only access to an ext2/3. or check this site out. There is one tool there, if I remember well, that gives you full access. TuningSoft

I don't think it's worthwhile....... I had about 10 movies, MDK 10 ISOs and some other important stuff that was backed-up on my other hd. Well the thing is that it seems that the logical part of the hd is OK but the mechanical part is f***** up. My question is: how did this happen ? I can hear the disk spinning inside. I dind't move it or something. And BTW, simptoms I mentioned in my first post happened the first time a few days ago. I powered off my PC, disconected the qf from the rest of the computer, booted Knoppix to check my data on my first hd and then I connected the qf again. I powerd up the computer and everything went well. Two or three days after that, this thing happened. What do you think ?

I guess I'll have to try Point2Play............

TurRacer wasn't running at all, when I executed it nothing happened, so I decided to uninstall it and compile it. When I run ./configure I get this error: checking whether glx.h defines glXGetProcAddressARB... no configure: error: Your copy of glx.h is out of date. You can get a more recent copy from the latest Mesa distribution (http://mesa3d.sourceforge.net). I downloaded the latest Mesa source (6.1), typed 'make' than 'make linux-x86'' and all went well. When I typed 'make install' I get this: Installing ./bin/installmesa make: ./bin/installmesa: Command not found make: *** [install] Error 127 Mode Note:Moved from Software by phunni

This is bad. I replaced the electronical board of the hd and it still doesn't work. This means it's f***** up mecanically. I've just lost almost half of my storage capacity. :((

I copied all the fonts from Windows and AOK to the fake windows/fonts directory and nothing happened. The game font is still ugly.

Help !!!!! This is serious. I need support.

Netscape 7.1, me favourite browser. :D
-
Where did you download the rpm or rpms and what do I have to download exactly, because on www.x.org I've only found the source.

Simple. MDK 10 has 5 CDs. MDK Move occupies 1CD => MDK 10 has lots more features and software than MDK Move.
-
I dunno about MDK Move but I have used Knoppix and have to say that it can save your @$$ sometimes (data recovery, boot in critical situation, clean infections sometimes and many more uses) It's especially usefull for people that travel alot but don't have a laptop. It's like taking your OS with you all the times provided you have an USB drive and it is secure as well. Why should you use the existing OS on a computer when you can boot up yours ? Maybe the existing OS has spyware, keyloggers etc. I'm not paranoic but this thing happened to a friend of mine. His Hotmail account was taken over by someone using this technique. Better safe than sorry :D

I don't know what font the game uses. In it's directory there is a folder called Fonts but there are 19 fonts over there. I don't understand why cedega doesn't use those fonts if the game supplies them.

I'm using Firestarter as firewall. It has a GUI and a wizard to configure it. Is it good ?

My second hd, a Quantum Fireball AS30.0 A1Y.1500 30GB doesn't seem to work anymore. When I start my PC it runs extremely slow. It detects all the IDE drives (slowly) then it tries to boot (very slow) but it doesn't boot at all ! It gives me the "replace disk and press any key" error, altough my hdds are connected. Now I removed the Quantum Fireball hd and it boots normal. What can I do to get it back online ? Did anyone else have this problem ?

Just log in as root, open the konsole, type "urpmi.addmedia thacs.rpms http://rpm.nyvalls.se/10.0/RPMS with hdlist.cz", press enter then type "updatedb" (yes just like that) and press enter. After this go to System -> Packaging -> Install Software, search for Kopete and install. Make sure you check the right version (0.8.4). This should work, at least it worked for me.

I'm trying to play Age of Empires 2: Conquerors but it seems that Cedega uses the wrong font. It's way to bold and hard to read. How can I change it ?

I'm stupid. Why didn't I see dvries' post ???

I'm trying to convince a small company to switch to Linux (hopefully MDK :D since it's my favourite) and dump windoze but I need more info about the TCO and the license(s) they need to purchase. First of all, do they have to buy a license for each computer ?
-
Ok ... it seems this is a strange error. In this case can anyone email me a RPM for MDK 10 because I wasn't able to find kopete rpms on the Internet.

Well, I don't know if the Mule can frustrate me more than my ISP. They are a bunch of morons. I have to pay 60$ (VAT included)/month for a lousy "broadband" connection that can reach a maximum of 7KB/sec. Downloading is a nightmare but with tons of patience I can get what I want. I'm going to have to switch to another ISP when the contract expires. I'm part of a small network, otherwise I wouldn't be able to pay that. I haven't had crash problems with eMule ...... the strangest thing that has happened was that it somehow uninstalled itself and deleted a part.met file (it was a MDK cd 98.4% completed :(() I have recently installed SP2 and I have to say that now I get lots of errors although the system runs faster than before.

Gaim is not a problem, though it works excellent for me, now but I still want to install Kopete. I downloaded the latest version of Kopete. 0.8.4 as source. I ran ./configure then make but it stops suddenly with this error: make[3]: Entering directory `/root/Desktop/kopete-0.8.4/kopete/styles' make[3]: *** No rule to make target `MSN.xsl', needed by `all-am'. Stop. make[3]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/kopete-0.8.4/kopete/styles' make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/kopete-0.8.4/kopete' make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/kopete-0.8.4' make: *** [all] Error 2

Finally, succes !!!! THX guys especially feralertx. :D I was angry because for the past 3 days I had been triying to install a Mule and none of them worked, but now that everything works I've calmed down :D

Sorry for the probably stupid question, but what software do I use to scan some documents and stuff ? Because I have a HP OfficeJet 5110 that includes: printer, fax, scanner and copier.
-
The MDK rescue console solved the problem. THX.

Yes. I've just tried it and it didn't work for me. I get the same stupid error: Some package requested cannot be installed: aMule-2.0.0rc5-1mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied libwx_gtk-2.4.so.0) (Y/n) y I'm sure I typed the commands correctly, because I managed to install the 2 libraries from the aMule site: wxGTK-2.4.2 & wxBase-2.4.2, made the links but still the mule is stubborn and won't install. This is getting crazy. Why couldn't they just include all the crap in a whole package ?
