  1. Good question Darkelve. There is a bench mark in that one website that shows that. I think if I remember correctly a Pentium D was just about the only Intel processor for home PC's that could out do an AMD 64-bit 3000+. To be sure I will have to ask cybrjackle to check this out, as he is the one that gave me the link and he should know more about it :). *EDIT* I think this might help you, the one I had had pretty color graphs to compare them, but this one is just a chart. Click Here
  2. Agreed :) *EDIT* regardless if it's AGP or PCI-Express
  3. Thanks tyme! I thought about it and it seems good. I would like right now just to build a basic computer , like I was planning from the beginning. Simple AMD 64-bit 3000+ etc etc ... Not going big just nice :). So can I start counting down? 1 week left?!?
  4. nvm mind what I said. I've been waiting for a new computer for almost a year already. I think I'm going to just wait the month. Work my butt off and then get the card. This should be a good dicipline for me. Learning to hold on , and the end result is breath taking. Which is going to be my responce when I open up the box with the 7800GTx lol
  5. So from looking around at other forums this is the elite card :). A lot of peopl like it, but a lot of people are running AGP. I can't seem to find that much on linux and pci-express. How good is the support? Also would I need to find custom little hacks for xorg.conf to make it work? Since a lot of the " Option " you can put in xorg to enhance the video performance is sort of aimed at AGP. What would I need to change for PCI-Express. I have the money to buy this card. But I'm so temped not to buy it. It's a lot of money for my first system. I don't exactly make this kind of money. I'm thinking about sticking to a 6800GT if all an Ultra. I'm going to spen the money on the CPU and that's all :).
  6. Hope so DM. I'm looking at about a month maybe a little over 5 weeks to get the money and buy the computer. I hope that battlefield 2 and Linux play nice. Since it's the hottest game out there I think cedega developers might be working extra hard on it, or atleast that is what I tell myself. With the extra money that I'm going to save up I should be able to upgrade the CPU to the 3500+ series. I'm going to make yet another thread in a while. I'm trying to learn a crapload about what to look for in Motherboards. I still don't really understand them, just know what Hdd controllers they support, what slots it has and how much ram etc etc ... I still feel like I'm missing something.
  7. lol thanks tyme :P Although I would have to save until the end of the month, and maybe a few weeks into August I'm sure the end result will be one of the happiest moments of my life :) . On the other hand Cedega needs to hurry up on making BF2 playable on Linux. Counting down .. I can't wait! arhrhghgharr
  8. Lol I forgot about that! But what will these mean? I won't be able to get updates for it? Or viruse blockers? j/k I've looked down that road ...
  9. But the point I was making is .. Is it a good card or a bad card to have? I was sorta asking for the pros and cons of it. Which some of the reviews point out
  10. Games are going to be such like Doom3, and then Battlefield 2. Much more games that are new to the scene. Older games I will play would be something like Medal of honor all the 3 expension packs. Call of duty, Starcraft. And some others that I can't name of the top of my head. I'm hoping to stay linux only on the computer. But if Battlefield 2 is not playable n Linux by the time I build this computer I'm going to have to buy 64-bit windows.
  11. So .. once again this is one of my questions about parts of computers. As some of you know I'm hoping to build a computer in about 2 weeks, but I've decided to hold off and save money until the end of the month which should rack in a good 1500 dollars total. With so much money, what would you guys upgrade? I gave this a thought and I went for the things that run a computer such as the Processor. I went from an AMD64 3000+ to an AMD64 3500+. Keep in mind that this is a computer for nothing but gaming. I was tempted to get a 250GB hard-drive but Linux is going to be the only OS on it, and Cedega doesn't really support most of the games that I like. I'm not installing windows no matter what. So here is the question. I have the money to buy the 7800GTX , which is the top of the line video card right now. But what are the advantages, disadvantages? From googling around a lot of people say that this card is way to far ahead of gaming. That there really isn't any game out there to take full advantage of what this card has packed under its hood. If that is true that means that it will be quite a while for a game to come out that can use this to the max. If I were to get this card, this card ( according to nVIDIAs release cycle ) should be good for a good 3 years I'm guessing. After the 6800 series came out, there was no release of another series for another 14 months. So I can only guess that this could be the same for 8800GTX ( if that is what they plan on calling it ). To top things off this is a big video card. This thing right now is the Almighty of video cards. So can you guys point out the pros and cons? Also if you had an extra 500 some odd dollars what would you upgrade? Hard-drives, CPU, RAM, Case , Monitor etc etc ... Thanks, Luis ( hurricane dodger, 1 down 10+ to go )
  12. I don't know if you are having trouble with IPV6 right now I'm on about 5 hours of sleep, so if I read the first couple of posts correctly and you want to disable IPV6 please fullow this guide from another forum ( ubuntu forum to be exact) Click Here Of couse just take the synaptic stuff out and replace it with MCC. this is what I did to get mine to stop and get my internet back up. I think I posted it somewhere in this forum.... I'll try and find it.
  13. As I read their forums a lot of people are starting to give up on Ubuntu. About 4 or so of the regular posters in the 64-bit section have quit. And then about another 20 joined them :). Ubuntu is loosing it's touch, or atleast on their 64-bit side. I should say the community is. There has been posts that are un answered for months. Which worries me, because I know I'm going to be having some issues when the time comes to get my com ....
  14. I just re-dowloaded it and installed it again. On another note where can I find single cool icons? I've seen some awesome icon for my ipod but I can't tell where it was, or what theme it was. Do you know of a specific website?
  15. I was making a joke but you didn't get it. The question is there is no joke? sorry I'm wasted
  16. yeah I just don't like som of the icons that it assigns to my ipod nd xmms. But now I just look in other themes and make them custom. So that fixes it all :) Chill out, I'm not a computer nerd. And i don't make themes every freaking month. I was giving you a damn compliment gosh. Need to take some " chill out energey drink. btw, when you update a theme I have to re-download it and install it? And then what?
  17. Didn't know it was that much of a pain in the ass to make a theme. I feel that a lot of icon themes are incomplete. Sometimes not having icons for everything I have :( Makes me mad. On the other hand thanks for the reply :smash head:
  18. One thing I just noticed is that the theme they are .icons. In bvc's theme picture they are .png so someone was messing around with the format ... bvc! This would be sweet if he makes a theme for them. I would like to see it.
  19. But I don't understand. It says that those are for windows? How the hell did you get gnome running on windows/windows styles on gnome. They for some reason look better on your comp :P
  20. I was just wondering if this installer was a standalone away from Cedega and such. Because as time gets closer for me to build my computer I've been searching on the games that I most like, and MOH is one of the top ones next to call of duty. Medal Of Honor That shows full support for all the 3 games. Five! star playability in Cedega which is really really good news for me.
  21. There is the Dark-Blue I like it. It's black with blue, and then there is Orange, which is black with orange.
  22. I like your new theme bvc. I have to apologize because I always used to say " This bvc always makes 'grey' themes, wonder if he knows any other colors .." The truth is these themes are good, they seem to level out my eyes. Not too dark, and not too bright either, just in the middle. Which explains the grey ( between black and white ). Keep up the good work, again my opologies for being so hard headed and not enjoying them like I do now :) EDIT: For these guistyles website how can I download some of those Icons? I keep on clicking everywhere hoping for a pop up to come up and ask me where I want to save it to :P
