Would I just save over it in the file that it is located in? This should be my last question then I think I can handle Linux. Thanks dude. -Alec

Am I typing the wrong thing? And I did use the urpmi. Since I am a newbie could you please walk me through this process I am still trying to learn. Thanks for your patience and cooperation. - Alec

    graphics card

Im in the process of building a personal gaming computer. And for the video card I went down to my local LAN Party and I'm getting the G4 FX 5700 LE 256 MB and has some stuff on tv and all that stuff I will have to check later what it is, you won't find many GeForce 4 with FX 5700 only and handfull I sure could not find one on the internet. Nvidia is soo much better besides the fact that almost every game in under the " The way it's meant to be played " logo, which the developers of games hook up with Nvidia to make sure that every game runs the best on their cards, ATI I hear has the most problems. And I hardly see any game that is made for that card, You can't go wrong with Nvidia. You can also go to Nvidia's website and find out where the local LAN party is, and you can stop in or call for info on video cards, I would only do this if you are going to use it for gaming in general, if it's just to upgrade it then you'll be find with just an FX 5700 www.tigerdirect.com You can find them here for a great price.... -Luis
  14. First try to go to their website. If there is only specially made for Linux users better, if not then I don't know, also you might want to try those gaming websites like GameSpy, Fileshack, etc............. Those usually have something good. But I think that most of those updates are in that .exe format, and If I'm correct linux can't run those or something?! -Luis
  15. Ok Well I ran the ' glxinfo ' and this is what I get $ glxinfo name of display: :0.0 Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". On the message that I got from running glxinfo? I couldn't find anything that says direct rendering I don't know if I was even looking in the right place or where I was supose to be looking. -Luis
  16. Well thanks scoopy my friend didn't keep on looking to the ones at the bottom but he found one, but the only thing that he says is wrong with it is that it's too fast and it really doesn't look like the matrix code is looks wayyyy different. since you said that you go this installed do you think that you can provide one of us with a screen shot to see if thats the one or did you get a different one than what we did or what. or if not then I guess how can we fix that GXL not supported speil. -Luis
  17. If you guys can go to installing mandrake forum and then to the one that says " help with mandrake' by Luis101 this has the same problem, just so i can get answers to what seems to be the same problem in 1 place. Thanks, -Luis
  18. I already remember doing this kind of download, does this mean that 1 or the mirrors didn't work or something? Or is this completely different, I just remember doing something like this when I was installing urpmi. By the term "lash" do you mean remove the ' glxinfo ' and just type in grep direct with the | if not what did you mean? I was able to run xscreensaver from the terlmina just by typing that, but then when it came to the actual GLMatrix it said the GXL or something was not found or the extention or it. So it's not running Im going to go ahead and try some of the other screen savers and see if the run. Check the topic " Help With Mandrake " by me under installation to see what im talking about that topic is preety much talking about the same thing Im just triying to puzzle your answeres to their answers and see what I get out of it. -Luis
  19. Thanks Scoopy!!! Well it doesn't work. Ther seems to be some kind of error it flashes on the screen kinda fast. Something about the screen missing and GLX exstansion on screnn " 0.0" What does this mean? wha should I do and if you did the same matrix screen saver did you get any error messages? -Luis
  20. This is what I get glxinfo grep | direct bash: direct: command not found so Im guessing this is a big " NO " I tried it and this is what I get # urpmi xscreensaver-gl Please insert the medium named "Installation CD 4 (x86) " on device [/dev/hdc] Press Enter when ready... I don't have cd 4 and I quite frankly have never heard about it. Also how do I make sure that Im running 3D acceleration? About the Kazaa i don't know what my friend is talking about. I don't see anything in his directory about kazaa. Can some one provide steps to installing a screen saver in general, we are wanting the screensaver that looks like the matrix code trickling down. -Luis [formatted by spinynorman]
  21. Well we are triying to install a screen saver but we do not know how to, I have tried urmpi and things but it does not work. # rpm -ivh xscreensaver-matrix-4.14-4plf.i586.rpm Preparing... ########################################### [100%] package xscreensaver-matrix-4.14-4plf is already installed Now when we right click on the desktop>Configure Desktop>Screen Savers Nothing shows up under screen savers besides the one that already camed installed in Linux or Mandrake. We just need to know how to access this file and make it appear on the Screen Savers menu. thats all -Luis
  22. hey guys, umm he corrently has the Urmpi tool installed, I installed it for him. So we are using that, right now we have a huge deal with installing screensaver and he want's to get some kind of kazaa installed on his computer. But we download the file and red package don't reconize them or wont run the. He is very new to linux I just installed linux on his computer this morining so if you do give instructions please give step-by-step. thanks, -Luis
  23. What do I do with it, I installed it and nothing happeneds. how do I run it or whatever? do I use this code rpm -Uvh xscreensaver-matrix-4.14-4plf.i586.rpm Or what? anyways I already did something like that but it does not show up in the " available screensaver" What to do? -Luis
  24. Thanks guys for the help, Im not on my computer I'm on a friends right now. For some reason his computer frezeez when theres a certain amouts of programs running. I think it is because we don't have the 3rd cd and we didn't install it. My other question is I would like to change my sceensaver. We would like something like the matrix coding and so that it moves and stuff. But we can't seem to find any linux sites that offer this we found one but the download was .exe which I guess linux does not run. Also on top of all we have no idea how to do it so if you guys can help us change a screensaver and if anyone has a link to some webpage that really does have linux screensavers it will be great. -Luis Does is Konqueror in Urpmi can I run a plug in to Konq? Also how do I acces those directories when I do they say that they don't make since.
  25. Sorry scoopy that I wasn't more clear on my last post, I already had tried that here is what happeneds when I hit Enter Please enter the installation path of the Mozilla, Netscape, or Opera browser (i.e., /usr/lib/mozilla): WARNING: Please enter a valid installation path. I really don't know what do type in I tried typing in whats in the ( ) but it says that same message, I substituted the usr for the user name, -Luis P.S. how can I start to remove programs? I don't want Mozilla anymore but I can't delete from the home directory it says that access is denied. Also what else should I learn? Now that we pretty much got this whole speil over and done with. I just need this macromedia flash player installed and it should be done.
