  1. Hard to tell what's wrong. We could use a bit more information. :-) But I'm going to take a stab in the dark here. Have you tried updating Gaim to the latest? What is happening to you reminds me of the problem that was happening with messenger not that long ago.

  2. Just don't press anything, and it will check if it can recover the journal. If it can, all is fine.

    That's thanks to ext3.

And yes, it is in the kernel, not a module.

The forced check is an option that people would shout about if it weren't there, but really afaics not necessary.

What do you do if it doesn't recover? I had a breaker blow last Saturday and when I fixed that and powered the box back up I got the error bad Supermount. I tried knoppix and e2fsck but I get the error still bad supermount. I tried the -b options but still the same.

I'm starting to think that it's royally fried and theres only one thing left to do. Reinstall.

  3. time to buy a ups like me... im looking at one a 1500va one JUSt for the server and hub's and cable modem..  149.00

I have one. There was such a massive surge coming through that it basically shut it self down to try to save the machines. lol Thats what I get for living in an old poorly wired apartment I guess.

  4. this isn't going to easy for me is it.. : O (

Maybe not. But keep us posted so it will make my life easier when I set up my mail server. :-)

Once I get the damn server to boot up again that is after the breaker blew. Poor thing can't even start in cmd line anymore. :wall:

  5. Funny, it always work for me.. in fact.. it works so well that sometimes I install a package, the menu is not updated yet until I do update-menus -v as user. After that, then it will show up in user menu.

That makes me think I'm doing it wrong then. heh Pretend I'm a user and explain to me please what you did to get it working. Maybe I'm missing a step that you're doing? Yes I'm grasping at straws here I know. :wall:

  6. Its all a matter of personal taste on this one so the responses should be interesting. On that note here's my 2 cents.

For an X client X-Chat seems to be the best. For the real irc experience text clients are the way to go. Irssi is my personal favorite of these, followed by scrollz then bitchx.

It's probibly best if you just install several of them and try them out. Once you decide on one that you like unistall the rest and you're off to the races.

  7. I think you should use menudrake as root to edit the system menu (not the root menu) so that everytime you lose the menu and have to redo the update-menus -v, it will be restored according the system menu, so you don't  lose anything.

Tried that already DragonMage, unless I'm doing it wrong (always a possiblilty) It rebuilds them fine but still only the default applications.

I go to add something like Gaim to the Menu and I loose it all, I do the update and it only brings the defaults back and then I'm in that lovely little loop again. :juggle:

  8. Ok what gives? All I did was change my printer from an old inkjet one to the sassy new laser jet one, install the real honest to goodness linux drivers for it from the manufacture (which added a new section to the menu) and now the whole damn menu is gone. :help:

I try menudrake and it doesn't bring it back, even tried it as root. I try update-menus -v and it works but all I have is the default menu applications that were installed when I first installed 9.2. No Americas Army, no Gaim, no cross over office etc. :wall:

I've done the update a long time ago that supposedly fixed this problem. But apparently not in my case. Anyone have any ideas what to do here to get all the applications back in the menu?

On the up side, damn the new Samsung laser printer is sweet. :headbang:

  9. Thats how easy you give up? Wow. So saying you'll install another distro is a threat? What makes you think a different distro would be easier? Wow I'm in a crabby mood this morning aren't I.

Whats wrong with the default Radeon drivers in MDK? They work fine on my 9200.

  10. Thanks for the help and suggestions folks. I went with the back up the data from both OS's through linux, just in case of course, reinstalled windows, and then booted up with disk 1 and did a Rescue. Badda boom badda bing I'm in like a dirty shirt.

Im still curious as to why all of a sudden XP thought it had an unmountable volume when it was working before Christmas vacation and we didn't do anything. Oh well, I'll just say it's a windows thing. ;-)

    Thanks again

  11. 10g for windows (wife likes it for her palm pilot, what can I say :) ) ,

    Another Choice!

It will pull pilot-link that should be in your install cds.

Then you don't need Windows! :D

I'd use that execpt that the palm and the desktop don't talk to each other right now and my wife has gone to the Island for a week with the palm of course so I'm unable to convince the two they each exist for now. :-)

    Thanks though
