  1. Hmm... I'll ignore the signatures for now... I discovered that the quakes, indeed do require cds. I have the Quake 3 cd, but now I just gotta figure out how to install it, lol
  2. Lol... one wizard isn't that bad. It also makes it seem more user friendly, the nice smooth graphics, and stuff. As long as they don't say you have 30 days to activate or I brake your computer, I'm happy.
  3. Hmmm... so you don't think it'd be worth it to go out and buy it? I wonder whats faster... I'm imagining linux but you can never be sure.
  4. Well, I was thinking the other day how linux compared to macintosh. I already knew who the winner was with microsoft. ;) So what is better in terms of user ease, reliability, stability, speed, and who had more software? And also, does linux include freebsd? and if not whats better, using the same qualifications as above? Moved by Ixthusdan
  5. You can also configure it with a GUI by downloading Comanche or Webmin. TO get webmin just go su (password) Urpmi Webmin
  6. lol... did that once on age of mythology heaven.... everyone thought I was weird, too.
  7. Well.... Its actually one one of those sources I listed above... I just typed quake in RPM drake... But anyways, it wasn't quake I cared about.... Its all these invalid signautes I'm getting. Like on Bidwatcher, it says it cannot match the time right with ebay, and I dled Nethack and it didn't work, and I guess I'm assuming that its because of the invalid signatues, but maybe ur right and its not. I'm just wondering whats going on with these goofy errors, and if those are the cause to the programs from the stuff I'm dling.
  8. I can't figure out whats going on, I added some sources, run the necessary updates, and then I start enjoying the ease of installing programs with ease. But I a lot of invalid signatures, and I read somewhere that their ok to ingore, so I did.... None of the programs with invalid signatures that I installed work. This includes, Quake 3, Quake 2, Bidwatcher, a special version of Nethack. here are my sources: Hmm... you guys got any idea whats going on? Thanks in advance, SwiftDeath
  9. I'll maybe support WineX, when I start to use it and see if its any good.
  10. Hmm... sounds cool to me.... Maybe just get all the certs possible? lol
  11. sweet, I think I'll buy some since its only 5 dollars. :D
  12. Is their a way to support all the distro's in the same payment?
  13. Mandrake linux has stocks? Whats the symbol?
  14. No problem at all man, it took me a while to figure that problem out, and I'm glad I did and that I saved another linux user some time. Thats what this board is for. :D
  15. ---PROBLEM RESOLVED----- I uninstalled java and reinstalled an older version and then attempted to install LimeWire (which appears to be the best one anyways) and it worked. And now I'm downloading songs on LINUX! Now I just gotta figure out why my cd-rws aren't working.... I'll give that 3 more days and then make a post about it if I can't fix it.
  16. I agree, and I like easy but control the most!
  17. lol, cheaper as in sucking in the most money and giving out the most bull $hit. lol, but its advanced, reliable, and easy bull $hit so you should buy. Sometimes I think MicroSoft could sell dog crap and claim that if you put it in your computer, it'll make it run faster, and that most people would actually buy it.
  18. It seems that theirs two types of linux users, according to this. Those who want it easier and those who don't I beleive those who want it easier will be better for converting users. But if you make easier, we'll kinda lose of pride of not being like everyone else with an operating system. So I guess linux is fine how it is, but we should try to get more companies support and drivers, with other better stuff like I said before.
  19. Lol, stupid companies need to learn whos better. :P
  20. Hmmm, why get a MS certification when you use linux?
  21. recently having attempted and still trying to cross over, I learned about 2x as much about my computer than I did in 2 years. IT forced me to learn some stuff, and actually use a console, which is a good thing. But I do agree, and fre things need some work. Tarballs and tar.gz's need to be easier to install. Sometimes the ./configure command doesn't work with certain installations of applications. We should also try to fix the whole library thing up. It gets really confusing not knowing which libraries you need, which ones you don't need, and which ones you already have. Its kinda hard to get the library your looking for easly. Urpmi needs and RPM drake need a lot of work. A lot of the time the signatures are invalid. They are also very confusing for new users. It took me a very long time to understand sources and what your actually doing in URPMI If we continue helping people on these forums like you all helped me, I beleive that more people will switch to linux, and learn more about their computers at the same time. We also need to really show the Micrsoft users that Linux really is superior in terms of reliability and stability and speed, by showing true facts and less opinion and hype. We also need to prove those doctored research results that Microsoft realeases are very biast and not realiable information
  22. We all gotta learn somehow. I do find reading the descripitons usefull though,
  23. I'm glad your asking this question, because I had a similiar/ I do know that using sythesis.something.something will save bandwidth instead of the normal.something. I beleive Urpmi --auto-select will select only relevant packages, but you'll have to ask someone that knows better than me.
  24. ok, to lower your security level you go into the MandrakeLinux Control Center. You enter your password and then you click Security. Then you click Levels and Checks. You'll see a dropdown bar, bring it down to standard. Make sure you set it back when your done with my intsructions that I mentioned earlier. Httpd.conf is just a fake file they put their I think, so you just try to edit http2.conf. You can also use Emacs instead of VI to edit it, which I find a lot easier. But webmin or comanche, is the best choice, for the command line challened and rookies.
  25. If you had to get a certain certification, which one would you recommend?
