  1. I just purchased a IOGEAR KVM:http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=product&product_id=283&sec=Function%20Diagram It works fine with my Mandrake system and other systems switching back and forth with no problems. One thing that does not work on it is that there are 2 extra usb ports that allow you to plug in additional usb devices to be shared with all the other machines that are connected to the KVM. The windows machines have no problem picking the other usb devices up. Mandrake 10 however is. When I go to the hardware configuration and look at the KVM it is in unknown devices section with the folllowing description: Vendor: ‎ATEN Bus: ‎USB Description: ‎4 Port USB KVM B V1.60 Module: ‎unknown Media class: ‎Human Interface Devices|Boot Interface Subclass|Keyboard Is it possible that anyone has had this same problem as I am having or knows how to make this kvm a recognized device. If anyone needs additional info to help with this please let me know. MB

  4. I am running MDK 10 on a Dell C810 and the screen is just not showing a very crisp picture. I have installed the Nvidia drivers for the 2.6 kernel already and that is working fine. I am looking for the right combination of resolution settings and monitor. Does any one know this? Currently I am running these settings: Monitor: Generic ( I assume this is right b/c it is a laptop) Flat Panel 1400x1050 Resolution: 1152x864 24bpps Does any one have a crisp picture out there??
  5. Ok all of that worked but I want these settings to survive a reboot also. I was able to find where the defualt route gets set. /etc/sysconfig/network Where does the static ip and netmask get set? Thanks for the help
  6. I am using MDK 10 CE. Before all this I was using dhcp with no problems. I am setting up a server and I need it to have a static ip address. So I set it up in the mandrake control center. I gave it an ip address outside of the range gave it a subnet 255.255.255.0 and the gateway. I can ping everything internally but can not ping or get out of the gateway. Can someone please help I thought this would be alot easier than this.

  8. Yes I would like to set it up manually just to get more experience in linux and I do know that it called bind. I have tried to install bind from source on the ISC site but I just do not know if it is acutally installing or not. How do I be sure. I have done it a few times now. Should I uninstall it? If so how would I go about uninstalling a source package? So what I have done thus far is just get the mdk packages: bind-9.2.3-6mdk.i586 bind-utils-9.2.3-6mdk.i586 And installed those. Is there a document on how to set these up manually?
  9. I am running Mandrake 10 CE and loving it even though I am new to the Linux Environment. Now I am trying to setup a DNS Server to host my new domain name. Is there some sort of tutorial out there that could help me with this? I have read the How-Tos on TLDP site but they are not helping. Is there something specific to Mandrake? MB
  10. All I am new to Linux and trying to setup a DNS server on my box using the TLDP How TO document Chroot-Bind How TO. http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Chroot-BIND-HOWTO.html#toc1 When I try to start the named service it seems like nothing happens. I go to ps -ef | grep bind and nothing is returned except my grep process for bind. Can someone please help me out here. I can provide more information as needed. Thanks, MB Moved by Ixthusdan
  11. In the searching tab in Search Scope I had it set to one it needed to be set to "sub" Is there a way in evolution when you are writing an email to automatically resolve against the ldap server. Instead of clicking the "To" button and then going to the ldap address book and adding your reciepients. For instance when writing an email in Outlook you could just press Alt+K and it would resolve the common names to email address. Can evolution be setup to do the same?
  12. I have been beating my head against the wall to get Evolution to resolve against our ldap server here at work. ldap.atos.slb.com is the server with a search base of o=slb,c=an we can bind to it anonymously. can someone please help me with this. If there is additional information that you need please let me know. Thanks MB
  13. I am new to linux and mandrake and I am enjoying it thus far. I am running 10 CE and saw this on a board recently.... T. wrote: > Please which one is reccomended for begginer to instal on desktop PC ? Now lets see what the others have to say wr How do I get the updates to 10 CE if there really are 500MB of bug fixes? MB
  14. I now have a docking station at work and when I boot up on it. I get errors and it will only boot to run level 3. Do I need to create a docked profile or something like that. I am a long time Windows user (please forgive me)
  15. Well I finally got it working this morning. I installed the driver with the -ane option. Then went and edited the /etc/X11/XFConfig-4 file like the Readme file explained. So now my laptop can boot up fine and load the right drivers. Thanks alot.
  16. Well I found the right kernel-source hell it was on CD 3. What a dope I feel like now. [root@mblanco-lin mblanco]# rpm -qa | grep kernel kernel-2.6.3.4mdk-1-1mdk kernel-source-2.6.3-4mdk So I tried to run: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run when i do I get the same error message: Using: nvidia-installer ncurses user interface -> License accepted. -> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: Yes) So I answer yes and it just sits there. Do I need to rebuild the rpm database? If so how do i do that in MDK 10
  17. I am unable to find the kernel-source to match the kernel that I am running. which is 2.6.3.4 I have searched google and alot of other sites. I am a newbie can someone pleae help out. MB
  18. I was able to install kernel-source but I noticed this: [root@mblanco-lin mblanco]# rpm -qa | grep kernel kernel-source-2.6.3-7mdk kernel-2.6.3.4mdk-1-1mdk Shouldn't these two be the same versions? Again after I installed kernel-source I tried to run [root@mblanco-lin mblanco]# sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run Here is the error log this time: Using: nvidia-installer ncurses user interface -> License accepted. -> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: Yes) -> No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site; this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for your kernel. -> Kernel source path: '/usr/src/linux' -> Performing cc_version_check with CC="cc". ERROR: Unable to determine the NVIDIA kernel module filename. ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com. Thanks for the help in advance.
  19. I was able to get the Kernel Source RPM it was asking for. No worries I just found it on another RPM site and downloaded it individually and moved on.
  20. I tried to run urpmi kernel-source and it had a few dependicies which was not a big deal but the kernel-source it was trying to install apparently was not on the site that urpmi has been set up to use. Here is the output error which will also show the ftp server I have set it up to use. root@mblanco-lin home]# urpmi kernel-source To satisfy dependencies, the following packages are going to be installed (186 MB): gcc-3.3.2-6mdk.i586 kernel-source-2.6.3-7mdk.i586 libgpm1-1.20.1-10mdk.i586 libgpm1-devel-1.20.1-10mdk.i586 libncurses5-devel-5.3-1.20040125.4mdk.i586 Is this OK? Is there another ftp site that I can use to get these packages that someone knows of? MB
  21. aRTEE which one is your website. I could not find it directly?
  22. I searched on Nvidia drivers on this forum and found alot but not too much to answer my question. Hardware: Dell Laptop Latitude C810 NV11 Geforce2 Go I am running MDK 10 CE and the driver I have for the video card is: Module: ‎Card:NVIDIA GeForce2 DDR (generic) The resolution looks decent but not real crisp and then when I play with the resolution from 1600x1200 to something less like 1400x1050 and I test that in XFdrake the whole screen shrinks and a black border goes around it. I have to have the monitor setting to "Flat Panel 1400x1050" for it to display on the entire screen otherwise I get that black border. Everything is just a bit too small right now. So since I was using a "generic" driver I assumed I needed to get the Nvidia driver. I got it and ran the installer but it errored out on me. Here is the error log: -> License accepted. ERROR: Unable to find the kernel source tree for the currently running kernel. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' rpm installed. If you know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' commandline option. ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com. Can someone please help and let me know if I do or do not need to install this driver. Thanks MB
  23. I even tried to install this package: yum-2.0.1-1mdk.src.rpm which is meant for mandrake. I took a look at urpmi.cfg file and it looks like all it does is install RPMS from the 3 cd's. Yum can be configured to get rpms from the web. I just do not know what the output means that i am getting when I run yum: # yum Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/yum", line 22, in ? import yummain File "/usr/share/yum/yummain.py", line 22, in ? import clientStuff File "/usr/share/yum/clientStuff.py", line 18, in ? import rpm ImportError: No module named rpm
  24. I am trying to install yum on MDK 10 CE. I compiled it from source and made it. Everything seemed fine. Now when I try to do anything with yum I get the following output: # yum Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/yum", line 22, in ? import yummain File "/usr/share/yum/yummain.py", line 22, in ? import clientStuff File "/usr/share/yum/clientStuff.py", line 18, in ? import rpm ImportError: No module named rpm I tried both of these rpms: yum-2.0.1-1mdk.src.rpm yum-2.0.7-0.20040416.src.rpm Can someone please help me out here.
  25. I am trying to install Xine on my Mandrake CE10 machine. I am new to Mandrake and Linux. I do not know which rpm binaries to use it seems to be hard to find Mandrake specific rpm's. I was told by a friend that RH 9 rpms should be pretty safe to use. So I tried to use them to install Xine but got dependancies. This linc-1.0.1-1 rpm is one of them. I tried to install it and it said bad signatures. Is something that I can ignore since it is meant for RH9. I exited out of the install until I am sure what I am doing. What should I do with trying to install Xine and for future rpm installs? root#urpmi linc-1.0.1-1.i386.rpm The following packages have bad signatures: linc-1.0.1-1.i386.rpm: Invalid signature ((SHA1) DSA sha1 md5 (GPG) (MISSING KEY) GPG#db42a60e NOT OK) Do you want to continue installation ?
