  1. if you're using live cd you must mount your root partition...in the /media file try to mount it there...then after you've got your root partition mounted (in this case if you mounted your root partition in that directory) try as root chroot passwd /media then it should prompt for new password XD and your problem is gone.. but remember this is in case you don't have your root partition mounted or you don't know where it is mounted you can also try to do that with your rescue DVD but I think it will mount automatically your partitions...you just need to find them (if they're not in /mnt....they should be at /media as /media/hd*) where hd* is the number of your root partition...check them using ls command and looking the files good luck!
  2. yep....I would like to know the "skin/colortype/theme" name
  3. yep  but still good news! ;)
  4. yep that would be my first answer...(*) another think you could try (I don't know if you have tried) is to replace the window decorator...then replace again 4 the gtk-win..-dec just to see if there still that problem... I just that trick when tried 4 the first time compiz and didn't worked (I just did it one time)...let's see if (*) worked cuz it's nothing sure XD then I found emerald...and I read it would have helped me XD
  5. And if you share your pc with somebody like your girlfriend, wife, friend,...and you're working...they come with "let me check my e-mail to see if I got the message from..." or let me check the documents on the memory stick" and you don't want to close your session and open the guest one...or you just don't want to close your windows cuz u're checkin something interesting....you just give her/him a virtual desktop so they can work and you don't close your things :D ....believe me it has it's advantages
  6. have you tried to mount that 300G on another mountpoint....sometimes when mandriva does mount a USB drive or a partition...and the access to those USBs or partitions are slow...I mount it on a folder I want... ;)
  7. those are good news! Mandriva could end up as one of the most used distros...cool!
  8. well I've been using PRINCO single layers cuz there wasn't any imation when I was going to buy it (reason=imation single layers works 4 me)!
  9. then I'll let you know if there's something after upgrading....thx yossarian B)
  10. mandriva here! but we're just 4% ~_~ but it's cool....people using linux.... nice to see that
  11. I haven't tried dual-layers on mandriva cuz I've been using single layers...so let's see how it goes....my DVD drive supports Dual-Layer +R only so I should try those first XD...now I'm using more and more mandriva (leaving windows behind )...
  12. Do I have to know commands or something to upgrade with DVD?.......more info? or I just have to follow its instructions?
  13. I've been doing a little reasearch and I found this command line upgrade option I don't know if this is the way it's done, cuz since I use mandriva I prefered a clean installation...now I want to try the upgrade! are these procedures correct? Upgrading 2009.0 to 2009.1 if there's something more please let me know...I want to know more before I make a mistake...I'm also downloading the mandriva free DVD 2009.1 ...so if the DVD install is more secure than the command line option please let me know if there's a how-to or something ....there's a problem if I used KDE3, KDE4 and Gnome? thx in advance
  14. nice one!...I didn't knew that brand....I've visited their page and they got good stuff there...probably buy something soon XD
  15. yes it is very annoying...I suffer that too..but sometimes I made it keep it's posotion just locking the widgets...but when I log out and log in again...it wasn't where I left it
  16. I would like to know what do you do to upgrade....and if there's another way to upgrade...maybe using the free 2009.1 DVD? saftely without having problems...cuz I've always reinstalled it ..now I want to upgrade it XD finally available mandriva :D
  17. what happens if I use urpme wine wine-doors and then I delete .wine and .wine-doors folders and reinstall it using urpmi? I do that when I want to start from scratch but I don't know if it makes troubles or not....I do that because when I used to delete .wine and .wine-doors directories and run the applications it begins to search for .wine and .wine-doors...so I thought it would be better unstalling first... does it makes trouble?
  18. I'm not saying it has security issues...I'm asking you...does it offers the same or better security features than firefox.... that's I'm trying to ask you cuz I've test it navigating and it is faster than firefox...I'm just trying to compare them a little bit more...cuz I don't know how to test those security things :P sorry 4 replying too late
  19. yeah that's right I'm using mplayer and win32...and works...he could also try using VLC player.. :P :D
  20. and it is secure? does it has any security issue?...I've used it but I don't know how to test those things :P
  21. why don't you read this compiz wiki...there are some commands used when you want to change your decorator..hope this help ;) http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Plugins/Decoration
  22. well I did some reaserch (I know it doesn't seem that way ;) but I usually do that when urpmi code doesn't work cuz I don't know the program or daemon name) if you're using mandriva free 2009.0 you will find in rpmdrake a daemon and a program that could work for you (seriously I haven't try it cuz I don't need less than 800 MHz)....so hopefully it will work for you :) see my screenshot and if you haven't add easy-urpmi reposit..do it first :)
