  1. Gnome has been more stable than kde for a long time. It used to be the other way around in the gnome1.4 days. That's when I went to wha?...kde2.2? Since gnome2.0, gnome has grown more and more stable over the years, mostly out of necessity. After all it is the corporate linux desktop...ie ..Red Hat ;) Inevitably, the more code...the more bugs, just look at Windows ...and you heard it from others...kde=bloat ...translation...more bugs. I can copy/paste, drag/drop huge directories in gnome's file manager nautius and it is extremely rare that it fails. It did fail occassionally a while back but only with huge directories. It's slow...so terminal/commandline is the route to take for big stuff anyway, and even safer to archive it first.
  2. more work on the E17-GTK ...of course, now I've found they have eblocks in devel
  3. now you see why I haven't updated the last 2 kernels debian+nvidia=sucks I've actually installed other distros over debian and stopped using it because of the nvidia crap. Last time I did a dist-upgrade the same thing happened again and I had to manually download and install about 20 pkgs from cli. Next time... another distro
  4. uninstall the official the same as installing but add; --uninstall nvidia-settings nvidia-kernel-common nvidia-glx
  5. Uninstall the official and only use ubuntu nvidia pkgs. To do anything else is asking for trouble.
  6. Yes. It'll depend on whether I think it's worth it after I look at the code.
  7. cool.....too bad you don't use gnome though... E17-GTK :P not near done, of course
  8. You use the Media Manager (decide where apps can be installed from /or something like that). Open that, and choose add. You will then have another window open and at the top you will see what type of source...like... local, ftp, http, removeable media etc... If you use a mandriva mirror, you shouldn't have to specify the path to the hdlist. Urpmi knows where to look and will find it. Else, the mirror is not configured correctly. So just copy and paste the url. examples for ML-LE 2005..... ftp://ftp.proxad.net/pub/Distributions_Li...i586/media/main ftp://ftp.proxad.net/pub/Distributions_Li...6/media/contrib ftp://ftp.proxad.net/pub/Distributions_Li...drake/free/2005 If this doesn't help...let us know!
  9. Oh, sorry, I thought the suse rpm referenced an INSTALL file. I see what you mean about the source. What HJ said isn't in the INSTALL file and and there's no autogen or configure.....so I agree....source pkg is broken.
  10. Where does the package refer to the INSTALL file? Where's the INSTALL file? I don't see one. If this is true then I need to fix the mandriva rpm http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=27730
  11. I see all of that one...other still doesn't show all. Got E17 going Wha? can't shade maximized windows? Hope that's a bug.
  12. Well, I'd like to admire your panel but the screenshot is corrupt and only 1/3 of it is there.
  13. In ubuntu it can be done 2 ways. 1. Use alien to convert the rpm to a tgz, edit the directory structure for mandriva, use alien to to convert the tgz back to an rpm. This is the one I used. 2. Use file-roller (archive manager) to uncompress the rpm, edit the directory structure, close the archive. It is just a theme, no source is needed. You can't optimaize graphics for an arch so what would be the point? Optimize a lib/theme file (.so) for an arch? Again, pointless and nothing to gain even if it is an engine or something.
  14. man...all that flashing/animation in the movie is major overkill, don't ya think?
  15. wait for me!linspireclear mandriva le2005/kde3 rpm here ...would have gotten the icons if kde-look wasn't down.
  16. what the hay...I'm been meaning to do it anyway so I installed 20 or so rpms and gave it a whirl. The rpm works http://kwh.kernow-gb.com/~bvc/theme/screen...eclear-test.png
  17. k, I just booted le2005 and the rpm installs correctly but I like I said, I do not have enough of kde installed to actually test it. Enjoy!
  18. ur welcome...hey! Looks like there's an rpm for mandriva le2005...probably in contrib in the mirrors
  19. suse installs to /opt...mandriva to /usr It is not supposed to compile as it is not a source pkg. Use the rpm at your own risk, or get the tgz and manually put things in there rightful place. If the rpm works (and I'd like to know....I don't have kde), put it up at kde-look for others, just give me credit for re-packaging it for mandriva (so...its name isn't right....oh well). ;) http://kwh.kernow-gb.com/~bvc/theme/test/L...11-2.noarch.rpm http://kwh.kernow-gb.com/~bvc/theme/test/L...eClear-1.11.tgz
  20. If you are a gnomer...go ubuntu...mandriva's gnome is outdated and has too many weird mandriva controlled hacks that interfere with the way gnome should act. No further comment needed. If someone does not know what those differences are then you don't need to know and it won't bother you so stick with mandriva's gnome.
  21. I heard someway say the other day they use gpdf....I have never seen it though. There's Evince http://gnomefiles.org/app.php?soft_id=898 I know they're gnome related but works all the same.
  22. I'm sorry...I'm not laughing at you, but if you are correct and linux still doesn't support firewire by default.... that...that...that's just sick
  23. I had this prob on ML9.2 (9.1?) with gnome and ended up switching to kde and other distros. To have to restart X or reboot every couple of days seems about normal with X and gnome IMO ...probably kde to, though I shutdown every night. As a result I hardly ever use my swap but still after an entire day...a reboot/or restart of X feels good and snappy. localhost:~# ps aux | grep "[X] " root 7632 4.5 7.6 44540 39504 ?
