  3. Yeah, that's my zip drive, but it's no longer a supermount line. I'm not sure how it changed. I only noticed that It had changed, when I got the above stated error at boot.
  4. I shut down my computer the other day for some hardware work, and noticed a couple of things. They don't seem to affect anything, but I'm currious about them. First, on shutdown, I notice that "ibod-daemon" consistantly fails. What is this? Second, on boot, I get this failure "mount:fs type kudzu not supported by kernel". This is new. I haven't changed kernels in over a month. I'm running 2.6.3-7 right now. I did find this in my fstab: /dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/part4 /mnt/zip umask=0,rw,user,noauto,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,kudzu 0 0 Although I don't know how it got there. It used to be a supermount entry. (I added the rw,user,noauto - but for some reason it will still only let me mount this one as root? anyway that's another thread) Like I said, it's really just a curriosity thing. If anyone has any input, it would be appreciated.
  5. I've had good experience with the Dlink cards and routers also. Their tech. support actually kept me on the line, when I said I was running Mandrake Linux :D . he even helped me fix my problem in Linux. Although It was just a router setting problem and we fixed it thru the browser. I still give 'em credit for not telling me that I was out of luck because I was using Linux

  7. :lol: Oh sure, do it the easy way :lol: I guess I should give it a try that way also. I have just been making sure the drive was unmounted and turned off before rebooting, and turned back on again before booting. Of course, I rarely reboot so I don't notice it that much. Thanks for the tip Gowator. I learn something new in Linux every day.

Most likely it will be there already. Then reboot. I know, this is probably not necessary, but I'm still new to Linux myself. Make sure you turn off your removable drive before you shut down. When you restart, turn your removable drive back on, before you boot. Your machine will probably say it found new hardware, and ask if you want to run the appropriate setup util. Just say no. When you get to your DE, open up a terminal and type You should be able to do this without being root. If you want to unmount it type: You may notice right now that transfer rate from your removable drive is slow, this will fix that also. Don't ask me why, but it did for me. Hope this helps. Post back again with results.

    What kind of device are you trying to use? I had the same problem with a usb HD. It was an easy enough fix. I had to delete the Supermount entry in fstab and put my own in. Now I just manualy mount my usb HD and it works at 2.0 speeds. Hope that helps.
  11. All fixed. Turns out the router's default setting is for a 100 Mbps WAN and I needed it set to 10 Mbps. Once I changed it, the router picked up the IP without a problem. Thanks to all of you that helped.
  12. No, I just verified with my isp that I do have a Dynamic connection. Grrrrr. Dang router.
  13. It's a D-Link DI-524. Here's the manual. I did log in to http://192.168.0.1 and use the setup wizard, but it was unable to automaticaly detect the connection type. That was another reason I thought there might be a hardware problem. I have tried to manually set the router up as both dynamic and PPPoe with no luck.. Any Ideas?
  14. I know this thread is a little old, but I don't like to leave things unfinished. I kinda got this one resolved. Some problem with usb connection. I switched to a parallel port/cable, and everything works now. I still would like to find out why usb printer won't work. Anyway, I can print now.
  15. resolv.conf nameserver 192.168.0.1 I'm starting to wonder if the router is bad. I tried to set it up on an XP machine with no luck. It acts like the router isn't even connected to the DSL modem. I wonder how I can test. The manual says the status light is supposed to blink if everything is working. It blinks a couple of times when you turn it on, then is dark. I don't know if it is supposed to be lit, green, red or what. The manual for this thing is crap. If anybody has any ideas or experience with a D-Link wireless router please let me know.
  16. Not sure about that. In 9.2 it showed the full host name, but ever since I upgraded, I only get that abreviated prompt. I fixed that after I coppied this output. I will have to hold off on the reslov. conf output for a couple of hours, as I'm at work right now. But I was thinking, If the router is sending signal, and I'm locked onto the network with my laptop, but can't get internet access, then part of the problem has to be the router settings, right? Else I could get online with my laptop (XP). But I guess that is what you were saying. I appreciate the help.

I read the sticky, and believe that everything is set up right. I'm hoping you guys can make heads or tails of this.
  18. You got it. Of course, I have not hooked up the old router since I installed MDK 10.0 OE. I stopped using the other one in 9.2, because I host an FTP site, and the Microsoft router (like the majority of Microsoft products) was dumbed down. There were very little controll options. I couldn't even controll the router's firewall. That didn't work nice with my FTP so I just pulled it, and haven't accessed the internet with my laptop at home since. Gona go read Gowator's sticky, and get that ifconfig output. Be back shortly.

  21. Gowator, thought you were taking off for a while. Oh well now you're stuck untill I get this fixed :P I'm at work right now, but I will post the outputs when I get back to my Linux box. As far as the hardware and setup: 1 Ethernet card (generic. Whatever Dell is sticking in their cases right now) 1 DSL modem (Dynamic IP - Every help menu says that I should have a PPPoe Connection tho) 1 DLink Wireless router. Modem --> Wireless router --> Linux box (only LAN connection) & Laptop (Windows XP ((no comment - have to have for work)) Connecting to wireless network with laptop, but no internet - Odd. Maybe there is a problem with my router settings after all. Anyway, I haven't messed with it anymore since I posted. ________________ Streeter. I Haven't checked the NFS settings yet, but won't I need this? I do want to network my laptop (Win) and my desktop (Lin). I'll look at It when I get home.
  22. I just bought a new DLink DI-524 Wireless G router, to replace my piece of crap Microsoft wireless G router. First thing I notice on boot - My boot seems to pause for a very long time at Statd. Then after that everything else draggs butt. Eth0 comes up fine, but no internet connection. I believe I have set the router up correctly. Firewall is completely off (double checked, as I have had that problem before :D ) Everything moves extremely slow. 30 seconds just to open an app (gkrellm, firefox, evolution, etc) and even the DE loads slow. All of this and no internet, but I'll work on that after i get this slowdown problem fixed. I unplugged router and went straight into the box, and everything is fine. Anybody have any Idea what's going on with the slowdown?

  24. Success! I found what I was looking for in one of aru's old FAQ's. This one to be exact. Thanks aru. [root@kevins kevin]# fuser -vm /mnt/usbhd This shows the offending process [root@kevins kevin]# fuser -km /mnt/usbhd This kills the offending process In case any one was wondering, I got a little trigger happy and used the kill process command before I checked it, so I don't know what was tying things up.
