That sounds good. Reinstalling will be easier if ever neccessary. In my case as mentioned above, tidying up some settings in my homedir would have done the trick i guess. :shock:

Just wondering; if you reinstall wouldent it be wise to get rid of all the user settings in your home directory i.e. the .kde, .gnome etc etc. I always keep the downloads, documents and everything i want to keep in a separate dir under home/hea so that its easy to wipe away all the old settings. I did a reinstall once keeping my homedir intact just to discover that the original problem was still present. Just wondering...

Thanks, but i found that plugin and tried it last night. It worked for the demos, but not otherwise! But if you've got this working then there is hope. This will be another late evening i guess...

Booted from windows partition last night for the first time in months. I recently got access to adsl-connection and ofcourse had to play with this new toy. Streaming movies has suddenly become possible, well that is if i boot from windows :( . Streaming movies is not a big issue to me, but it would be a very embarrassing if my windows friends should find out that i was not even able to. Is this posible in Linux? Has anyone of you got this working or should i just give it up for the time being?

I have been trying for a while to get both mozilla1.1, konqueror and opera6.11 to use different mediaplayers to stream movies/sound. I have both realplayer and mplayer installed and appearently working fine, but i always end up with "missing plugin" or "download MSmediaplayer" when trying to make it work. Have anyone managed to solve this? Btw. i did get xine to work as radioplayer via a "choose application" menu. :D

Removing the rpm did it... almost. I still have the graphic interface when choosing the boot image. I have an old monitor which really seems to work hard switching between graphic and text mode. I would prefer to keep i text based until i start x. Is there perhaps a similar solution to this last issue?

Wll, according to mcc>boot... its lilo w/graphic..but to be quite honest im not sure. For some reason i have taken it for granted that its lilo. how do i tell?

Yes i know it has been dicussed before, but this does not apply to my situation; ls -d /boot/*/ gives only 'grub'. I.e. idont have any lilo under boot. I cannot modify my /etc/lilo.conf as aru described in another post. Any suggestions? (And the MCC > boot > Boot config does not work for me).

Works great! ive tried making .xinitrc and adding a file to /etc/X11/wmsession.d and both works fine, so now; on to configuring fluxbox.... Thanks!

I have just installed Fluxbox on my system (ML9.0). But how do i get on if i dont have either .xinitrc or .xsession in my homedir?

What can i say other than thanks alot for your answers! I had "auto" mode and it has probably been like this since i configurated the isdn connection in september. I have now edited the "myisp" file to "manual" and things seems to work. Thanks!

When trying to shut down my connection to ISP i execute: /sbin/isdnctrl hangup ippp0 . This used to work but lately when monitoring the log file i see that the hangup command trigers a new dial sequence. Strange. Any ideas? I have a billion ISDN card which appear to work fine and i havent done anything as far as i know that should affect the isdn settings.

Apperently for no reason at all mozilla refuses to open download manager when attempting to dowload files, it just freezes and i have to kill. I delete 'profile' to start fresh, the i delete the mozilla directoy as well to start all over. It only gets worse: Freezing up after a short time, crashing completely (vanishing) when trying to download certificate from secure site, freezing up KDE (i had to ctrl alt backspace). Im at the moment using Opera (getting used to the fonts). Strange this since i used Mozilla over a week with no problem at all. The only thing i did in before this started was to add and remove some regular users. Have anyone else experienced similar problems? (being a complete idiot i have managed to delete the mozilla 1.1 source )

Tried to install the RedHat-rpm of the babychess. Well i had to download libpng2.so first > OK > urpmi babychess... > ok and... NOTHING!. No trace of the installed software. Not even with urpmf or urpme. I run KDE and there should have been menu/desktop entries. Well Redhat RPMs do not always work obviously, but why no errormessages. What actually happend. Have anyone else tried this?

Answering myself: ok i was a bit quick asking; the two files were temporary. Deletet them and OK. But still, i wonder e.g. who is nobody. Is this user added by default in a Linux system?

Hi there I have problems with acessing UserDrake. The message "Cannot lock user lib, file /etc/ptmp or /etc/gtmp exists" appears. Userconf just tells me i have to be "root". The only program that works is the Kuser. My first question is: does it matter wich of these i use, or perhaps i can edit files manually just as well? Second question: does anyone know why ecspesially the UserDrake fails to start. (The files mentioned in the error message are there ok) Third question: are there any good description on users and groups i.e. wich users should be default on your system and what are they doing.

Dont know if this helps but; the k3b-rpm i dowloaded from rpmfind.net only needed one extra rpm installed to work. The name of this rpm file was listed when first trying to install k3b (im writing this from another computer and dont remember the filename). I also found this file (size appr. 250kB) at rpmfind.net and installed it. Then , when trying to install k3b the second time , everything went smooth...

Finally made it!!! The answer was at the www.linux-usb.org under faq: Som hardware interrupt conflict between PCI and USB at my AOpen AK73Pro motherboard. Solved by turning off the BIOS option: "Assign IRQ for USB". Not interesting to the majority of you i guess, but if you have problems with USB, linux-usb.org will obviously be a site to visit. :wink:
