Yeah, what HJ said. I have a very slow processor so a regular install would leave me without my computer for a while. I install from within Mandrake so I have no down time whatsoever. Works great! Thank you HJ for teaching me how. :D

I'm in the middle of compiling KDE 3.2.1 so I can't check but doesn't K3B also have an option to burn ISOs to DVDs?

Now if I only installed gentoo from a cd . . . :D

that's where I know it from :woops: ...I was gonna comment earlier but couldn't remember which distro I'd used it with :woops: :lol: Seemed ok to me but.... ...here's the debian/apt description So, has ML integrated it w/ kde as well? I only used gnome w/ gentoo. I think suse uses it as well....may boot over later and see. [EDIT]couldn't wait......nope, not in suse. Oh, and I've never had a problem with sm either. B) In gentoo it doesn't automatically start a program for music cd's in KDE like it does in gnome. Maybe there's a way to enable that but I dunno. It does automatically mount the cds and (if enabled in the KDE menu) creates an icon on the desktop. So it's just a matter or right clicking on the icon to umount and eject.

Well I installed magicdev in gentoo. Seems cool enough. The other stuff I already had installed. :P

I never had probs with supermount either. It'll be interesting tho to see how this new magicdev works.

According to this note they were upgrading the board. The link and alternative text for our logo is still there. Hopefully that means they'll be adding it back soon.

I love Mandrake still but I primarily use Gentoo. Mandrake is a breeze to install, configure etc and I guess I'm looking for something a little more challenging. Compiling is a bit of a problem with my slow processor but, for the most part I don't mind. When I did my initial installation I did it all from within Mandrake so I still had an operable system and didn't have the downtime ppl complain about with Gentoo. I also like emerge over urpmi. Haven't had the dependency probs I sometimes run into with urpmi. And while install gentoo is extremely difficult to install emerge makes things easy. I recently upgraded to kde 3.2 and emerge did all the work for me. Same thing when I installed java. No setting up hyperlinks or anything.

I use Linux only for all personal use. Unfortunately I have to use windows for work but I think most people do. My main distro is gentoo altho I still have mdk on the hd. I didn't have a hard time making the switch. Nothing I can't do better in Linux than Windows. Why? stability, fun, challenging, you name it. Windows - bah!

Just wanted to add that I'm looking forward to when you get settled in and can join us again. :)
