who need's furniture : O) im going to build soon a better desk and a rack case made of wood to keep this beast quieter.. i took it apart and did some mods to the server already the stock fans were so loud so i changed the voltage so the fans run quieter..

Can any one please help me with snf i have it running. but that is not my problem. I want to know what i have to change so i can view my server from the internal ip's but from the http:// address... what do i change : O) Please help.. J'

i would make sure your router is working : O) and that you put your dns settings in on the linux box and also the right subnet mask and gateway.. Can you ping the router?

hey john.. are you behind a fiewall..? do you have your dns setting or gateway ip's set properly ?? Can you tell me or us a few things about how this is all connected..?

Ok i should tell you all about the setup first.. then ask.. ok i'm running mandrake mnf firewall and then from there into a hub for all my computers behind the firewall then a server.. Now when i'm at a different location i can see the server ( web page and service's.) perfectly fine. but when i'm at home i cant see the web-page at all from behind the firewall unless i type in http://192.168.1.X for the web-server http page.. is there something i have to open or change so i can see look out on the internet and see my web-page. : O) ie real time. ? Does it have to do with the firewall or something else.. the page is working fine for those on the other side.. but just not me.. can y any one help Please...

Here is my room lastnight..i was up till 5 am working on my server that some one got into and fillede the hard drive up.. Good thing they didnt do much damage and all my webpage and coppermine files are still there : O) FEWWW!!

Well it sux comming home to a server that is not online any more because some one got in.. My fault though. ihad samba on with all permissions off and ftp on : O(learned my lesson.. good part of this is i still have all my data.. and was up till 5am working on the server : O) so now im going to implement mandrake mnf again and continue to use it.. that way ifthere are any ports open on the server no one will see it unlesss i port forward it . : O ) Picture.

So a question to the pro's that know how to work and properly securly and configure a mail server.. What is all needed to run a mail server on mandrake 9.2.. I have a static ip i have tons of web power lots of ram. ? and a domain name. ie http://diy-audio.curtek.com can any one help me.. or point me in the right Direction.. Thanks...

ill post my computer room pictures.. In my room i have a mandrake firewall mnf/snf p4 2.6gig server webserver a desktop running mandrake ( toy ) and my apple powerbook witch is wireless 54g TOO!!! BUt my server went down for some reason today i dont know yet.. so ill know in a whyle..

sorry guys i madea mistake the 2 topics sounded very familuar and i got mixed up.. sorry :woops: also i hear there are bugs with the server im more than willing to lend my server at no cost or any thing.. it is a p4 2.6gig with one 80gig sata hard drive 512mb ram plenty of storage and power im just useing it as a ftp/webserver

inigo2 your right on the button with that one.. Tyme take the ethernet cable out of the uplink port and plug it into the port 1 - 4 that will solve your problem.. May i ask: Are you asking the computer's to get there ip from the router or the mandrake box sharing internet..? Do you have wireless computers on that ? if so.. do what i suggested above. But before that.. connect to the router ( linksys ) and go to the config page and turn of dhcp. bye doing this it will allow pass through to work with your router / mandrake box. WHen it is configured this way the router box is acting like a wireless hub / hub. when dhcp is on the wireless base is handing out ip's that might be conflicting with the mandrake one prolly not but might be.. try it and see.. i had the same problems and mine are fixed from this simple fix.. J'

i'm still confused on how to do this.. I think ill setup mandrake 9.2 on a little dell box at home and screw with it some more.. i also want to get this ftp thing working so i can upload new web-page files when im done working on them..

ok so my new server is working sweet and really well i thank all people for helping so far with my small and minor problems.. my question is how do i make folder listings work.? i have my server Here is a example. http://diy-audio.curtek.com ( actual web page and all. ) But i want to make a folder like http://diy-audio.curtek.com/files/ and be able to put files in there and download them via the internet browsers. but have it as a listing of the files in that directory ? how can or how can i make this happen.. id like to also know how to setup ftp Personal files only so i can update the web page to the server .. is this hard or easy ..?

yeah i was in the same posistion. 4 compters running 2 laptops 4 others. now it is down to 2 computers one mac : O) for the download box. and the server mandrake 9.2 running smoothly and Nicely...

what about setting your computer to s static ip from your smooth wall. turning off the dhcp server on your wireless router and plugging the cat5 cable into the port 1 2 3 4 ? and only allowing traffic from your laptop's ip through the smooth wall firewall.. personally i do that : O) works good. too.. im going to be installing my mandrake snf/mnf firewall again and using that because i like logging in and seeing the network usage and stuff. : O)

ok i logged in on the mandrake box as root : O) sorry sorry sorry i know it is bad : O) but any ways i looked in services and stuff that is running and i see that vnc is running i downloaded a vnc client for mac but tried to connect and it didn't connect. said server is not responding ect ect.. is there a port i have to open up? what is the port number ?

I have been downloading this suse version the dvd pro version for the last few days it should be done tomorrow.. Im excited to try suse as i brows there site and see alot of thing's.. did all of you guys buy your version..? i did download there trial one that runs on cd and thought it ran very fast for a os that was running on a cd.. im wondering how it wil run on a pc now...

i think later on this summer ill be building my self a desktop to run either suse or mandrake. Curently im sticking to apple as it in my opinion is best.. I work at http://www.discoverycomputers.ca/ and can get all my computer stuff at cost so i might build a nice p4 with 1gig memory sata raid drives dvd-r and dual monitors.. GOTA have dual monitor's..
