Germ, the link you gave my browser said the website don't exist. (or it could be that the server is down)
Hmm, works for me. The server could have been down for a while. We've had some problems with hackers and the boss is re-doing/upgrading several things.

Doesn't TurboPrint still provide free drivers? They don't provide as many bells and whistles as the $30 package, but they work.
-
alsa 1.0.6 supports the Audigy LS using the snd-audigyls driver. That card should work fine under MDK 10.1
-
Did you try:
update-menus -v
Run it as root and then as your regular user.
-
Definitely Epson.

Use /etc/sysconfig/harddisks to set DMA and other hdparm options.
If you want to set options for hda, copy/etc/sysconfig/harddisks to /etc/sysconfig/harddiskhda and then edit the file to enable the options you want.
My memory is not as good as it used to be, but I think they used the harddisks file in 8.2

usb support is already in the mandrake kernel. Try using Mandrake's lexmark driver.

Moogman, welcome to MandrakeUsers.
As root:
Use this command: killall urpmi urpmi.update urpme rpm urpmi.addmedia
Then this command: rm -f /var/lib/urpmi/.LOCK /var/lib/rpm/RPMLOCK
That should do it. If the database is not unlocked afterwards, you will need to reboot. Should be good to go. Kind of a rare error.

The kernel driver works great with the radeon 7500. No need for ATi's driver.
Boot your machine and when you get to the lilo splash, hit the "Esc" key.
At the prompt type linux 3 and hit "Enter".
When you get to the login prompt, login as root.
Run XFdrake. You get a nice ncurses based config tool. Choose the 'radeon' driver and '3D with hardware acceleration' when prompted.

Another vote for epson(perfection 1200U); they seem to have the best linux support.
I agree and I vote with my $$. ;)

They've already started adding new packages to cooker.

Epson Perfection 1260...works beautifully. ~$40 US.

cooker/i586 has been rolled back to the packages as of 10/7/04. I've been using cooker and don't recall seeing that before. Does anyone know why that was done?
Thanks,
Germ

I tried that and everything else I could think of. Never could get a bootsplash with 2.6.7-2

Germ, thanks for the heads up on Kshowmail, its exactly what I've been searching for.
I've installed it and am have a problem with it already. After I setup all my info and hit
check mail I get the following error:
The server certificate failed the authenticity test
(mail.xxxxxx.net)
I am confused as to whats wrong here. Any ideas?
Thanks, Jason
I'm at work and don't have access to a Linux box at the moment. I've never had that error. Double-check the settings and make sure there is nothing set to ask for a authentication cert.

kshowmail
I think it's in contrib.

EasyUrpmi appears to have been updated. You can go there and easily configure your sources.
http://urpmi.org/easyurpmi/index.php
Even though I'm in America, I get the best speed from The Netherlands and France. ;)

this is probably a silly question, but Which FTP mirrors for Mandrake have installation + contrib packages that are consistent?
contrib and plf change quite often with updated packages. Have you updated your sources?
urpmi.update -a to update the package list of all your sources
urpmi.update nameofmedia to update a specific source

Texstar was about the only stable avenue for getting a newer kde on an older mandrake than the current and now he's got his own livecd>hd-install called PCLinuxOS that is no longer mandrake compatible.
I'm using Tex's KDE 3.2.1 on a MDK 9.2 and a 10 CE install. Performs flawlessly. ;)

Hi Rainer. Welcome to MandrakeUsers.
If you're not running any file servers, Standard security is fine.
