    winmx on linux?

I know how to use urpmi, its just when in a console (as root) when I use this command urpmi soulseek I get an error message telling me that there is no package with that name. Is the package named soulseek?
  2. What do you think about Sun announcing that they are putting Looking Glass under the GPL? I received an email from them announcing this today: Project Looking Glass has been submitted as an Open Source project on java.net under the GNU Public License, or GPL. https://lg3d-core.dev.java.net/

    winmx on linux?

have you installed this via urpmi? I just tried and it tells me that there is no package named soulseek
  4. yeah X is starting I get a grey mesh background with an X mouse cursor. I just get no window manager with either command.
  5. Ive gotten installed, now what. It seems to not have overwritten my X.org install from urpmi, which is a good thing. How do I get it to start with a window manager on top of it? I have tried with icewm and with KDE. gives this error message with the command : [jason@localhost jason] sudo /opt/fdo/bin/Xvesa :1 & starticewm -display :1 icewm-session: Can't open display: <none>. X must be running and $DISPLAY set. With this command I get this error message: [jason@localhost jason]$ sudo /opt/fdo/bin/Xvesa :1 & startkde -display :1 xset: unable to open display "" xsetroot: unable to open display '' xmodmap: unable to open display '' xmodmap: unable to open display '' startkde: Starting up... (magicdev:28723): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: ksplash: cannot connect to X server kdeinit: Aborting. $DISPLAY is not set. Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory ksmserver: cannot connect to X server startkde: Shutting down... Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory Error: Can't contact kdeinit! startkde: Running shutdown scripts... startkde: Done.
  6. Word to the wise, even though your machine may say that automake is installed it may not be the right version. I checked before starting the script and it said it was installed. Thats why I didnt understand the error. I needed 1.7 according to freedesktop's page. I had 1.4 installed. I would have figured that I was current and had at least 1.8 with running cooker. Guess I should stop assuming, got me in trouble at work once this week.
  7. well, maybe a little help is needed, as I run the script i get this error message about 30 seconds into it: automake: Makefile.am: warning: automake does not support EXTRA_DIST being defined conditionally Makefile.am:50: invalid unused variable name: 'nodist_libXdmcp_la_SOURCES' autoreconf-2.5x: automake failed with exit status: 1
  8. I get Konqi asking me to verify if I want to log off when I click shutdown in KDE. I have the dm service set to not start when I start my computer. You can do this with chkcofig at the terminal or using services in MCC or use (I think its called) XFdrake (whatever it is in MCC to control the X server) tell it not to start the display manager on startup. Then when I get the text logon and have logged on I use the command startx.

    Mplayer

with the memory savings I could look at better frame rates and or less dropped frames?

    Mplayer

Is there something special that needs installed to allow Mplayer to user Frambuffer as an output device?
  11. Well now the deal is I am training a new guy at work so I cant bring the laptop in and use it. Time seems to be a little short as of late. I feel like this:
  12. have you ever updated windows xp? Im still working on it. No really I have been away from the laptop this weekend. I slept all day Saturday and was in St. Louis at the Cards game on Sunday (wooo hooo free boble-head).
  13. Well, I have installed about 12 updates so far (all security updates) and rebooted about 24 times... Oh wait a minute you meant about the x server thing. well I am still not done with the updates so it'll be a few.
  14. I wonder if this will do it: I will try it in a few, I am currently updating my install of winxp
  15. Yeah but is there an easier way to install freedesktops 'xserver' rather than building from cvs? Don't get me wrong I can do it but its sometimes a headache kinda like this:
  16. I dont think that Gthumb does batch resixing. If it does I havent found it yet. I do like a lot of the other things Gtumb does though. I find myself using a few different programs to get what I want done. I guess thats the way it always is, or should be. A few specialized apps that do the job well instead of one do-it-all program that does nothing well.
  17. I am with Not Public with the request but I would add red eye reduction. Lphoto works great for red eye. Gthumb works great at resizing (but does NOT do batch resize). ImageMagick does Batch but the resulting image looks like crap. I wish I could combine all the good parts and be done with it.
  18. I have just downloaded the previous default theme (looks much better) and I have gotten it to stop locking up. I think the lock ups have to do with the Java 1.5 (beta) plugin. The initial load of .9 seems to be much faster on my laptop with mandrake 10.1 (cooker)
  19. I dont know what the deal is, I have installed firefox .9 with the installer. Everytime I use Firefox it locks up after clicking a link or two. I will try the tarball next and if that dont work I will revert back to .8
  20. that was kinda the point, I am installing on MDK 10.1 and It told me to close all running Windows programs....
  21. Anyone else find this statement on the welcome page of the isntaller to be disturbing?
  22. I was wondering if there was a place to announce your milestone posts. I guess this will do. B)
  23. I have used ImageMagick to resize / convert jpg files. But the deal is sometimes it does not resize to the size I specify. I am trying to resize a number of images that were either scanned or from a digital cam to 640x480 for a webpage. The syntax I am using is convert -size file.jpg 640.480file.jpg I would like to find a gui to imagemagick or some other program that is gui based to do this. (and preferably have a batch mode)
  24. I dont know but it could be the word soundwrapper in the shortcut to xmms. Try taking it out. or the aRts plugin. on 9.2 did you have the same versions of the plugin and xmms?
