  1. yebo!

    :o

The Friendly Englishman takes his friedliness to an international level.

<whisper>I guess it helps that he lived here for a while.</whisper>

Nie man, Je maak nie a sambriel oop in a man se gat nie! (Finally I got a chance to use that in real conversation!)

Shhhh! They were all impressed with me until you said that! (Assumming they didn't just think I was spouting nonsese)

    I thought you did! :P

  2. hmmm, im not sure about those errors, maybe try wiping the linux partition and trying again. Ive never used ext2 filesystem before, only ext3, and Ive never had a problem with it.

You could also try restoring the bootloader by going into the rescue (or repair, not sure) mode and finding the restore bootloader option. This might (hopefully) fix the problem with windows booting.

Worst case scenario, have your drives been behaving properly in the past? All that permission denied stuff reminds me of a hard drive failure I had, but Id look at that option as a last resort.

    Hope this helps somehow

  3. I use a Sony Memory Stick reader (MSACUS1) for the Memory Sticks used in my digital camera and also for backing up my website onto. Basically it acts just like a USB thumbdrive, just plug it in and it should pop up on the desktop (in Mandrake at least), if not, you can mount it, it usually appears in /dev as sda1 or something of the like.

The only reason why I don't even try this is because I don't know how the digital camera would react, if filenames were not named exactly as it expects them to be.

You can use the camera exactly like a memory card reader, so whatever type of file it is you are copying, there shouldnt be a problem B)

  4. My school uses Novell....grrr nazi control programs

Likewise here and hell I dunno which idiot had that idea for any ix86/Linux would be perfectly fine.

Definitely, half the school computers have memory leaks at the moment anyway! POS!

and novell has so many evil watching programs like zenworks so they can stop you from playing games, and watch your desktop

  5. Well I can answer you properly that your first linux system is really up to you. But Mandrake is great for coming to grips with the entire linux way of life hehe.

As for the rest of your questions, that is a nice graphics card! I hope youre gonna use it somewhere!

Im sure there would be linux system imaging software out there somewhere, maybe someone else can suggest a program? :)

I personally dont think it's worth signing up with the club, but that might have something to do with my constant distro switching. Just check out the privileges, if it's tech support youre after, all linux users are happy to help each other, hell, thats why this forum is here right? :D

  6. I havent actually used ePSXe myself, but in my experience with emulation, not all games will work under the programs.

Check out this page for a listing of all the games that should work under ePSXe 1.60.

Otherwise, I guess its a rudimentary question, is the cd mounted?

  7. Yeah shared RAM between onboard components like a video chipset can really suck! Go for a proper video card, it just avoids the bottleneck that can sometimes be created.

Onboard sound seems to be alright, unless you call yourself an audiophile, I doubt youd notice the difference in sound quality
