  1. thanks man :D I'm going to reinstall SuSE (ftp so it will take a while) do all my updates in Yast2 and then grab kde3.2 :D Mark
  2. Well since I'm a n00b I've been toying aroudn with linux for the last couple of weeks. Being the n00b that I am I've tried installing a bunch of stuff (a lot of it didn't work) so I got some stuff thrown around on my system that is making it messy (I'm not a fan of this) so I'm thinking of reinstalling SuSE 9.0 for something to do tonight ( the more I tinker around with linux the more I learn...naturally) and so I can reinstall everything cleanly now that I know how to go about it. My question is, has anybody tried the new KDE 3.2? If so, how do you like it and how did you go about upgrading to it? Thanks Mark
  3. just look at several and you'll see they are the same, they just point to a diff script. I checked around for some rpm's and couldn't really find any...except the older version of fluxbox but I guess it has a big memory leak so I would probably want to stay away from that one. As far as those X11 files, I would have no clue as to what the hell I would be doing  I'm still very much a n00b Mark
  4. by direct connect I mean something similar to what you can do in AIM...like when you direct connect and the other person can insert pics and such in the IM window. It's really not that big of a deal for me, I prefer trillian but I can't get that to work with wine...but that's another story :P I pretty much figure that I can't do the direct connect with GAIM and that's fine, I was just double checking to see if anyone else has been able to do it. GAIM .75

I've upgraded to GAIM .75 (I'm running SuSE9.0) and I was wondering if there was any direct connect type of feature, I can't seem to find one. I'm thinking that there isn't one, but if there is could you tell me about it. Thanks Mark
  6. ok, I'll give taht a try :D Mark I downloaded the rpm, it was a i686. I then did a : rpm -ivh /location/of/rpm name that went smoothly (I had to install as root) I then restarted X (ctrl+alt+backspace) and checked my list of environments and still didn't see fluxbox. I then restarted my system and checked...still no fluxbox. Here is a list of what I have to choose from: kde mwm twm fvwm2 gnome icewm blackbox default windowmaker openbox failsafe gnome failsafe xterm and ideas of what I need to do? Mark

  8. Well I downloaded the latest stable release (tar.gz) and extracted it to my /usr/local/bin where it proceded to make a fluxbox dir. I then did a: /.configure make su root make install and that seemed to go fine. I then restarted X and when I went to log back in I checked the list of DE/WM's that I could choose from and I didn't see fluxbox in the list. I then restarted my machine and checked again and still didn't see fluxbox. Any ideas? Mark
  9. I have that emoticon on my site, I got it from HERE which also has a lot of hacks, pips. themes, group icons, etc... designed for use with the invision board software ;) Mark
  10. I guess I'll give it a try when I get out of work :D Mark
  11. you know of any for SuSE 9.0?
  12. so once I get the rpm and install it I should be all set to go...as in when I go to log in I can choose whether I want to use gnome or fluxbox? If so that would be pretty sweet :D Mark
  13. Was checking /. and found this story. check it
  14. So one could possible work with gnome, but on the other hand it may crash it? just try it aready :D I can tell you that these work, at least mostly. sawfish (old native) metacity (current native) blackbox fluxbox waimea Some get Enlightenment to work, but I didn't go through the trouble. Crash? What's that? just so I have a couple of options bvc could you tell me how I would: situation A) ditch gnome and run fluxbox instead or situation B) how would I keep gnome and run fluxbox on it? What would you think is the best way to go about it? Mark
  15. only if icons is a must-have and you have lots of idle resources in your computer (e.g. CPU, RAM, etc.). [and now i veer to offtopic] now come to think of it, why not just use it for something useful like distributed.net? ciao! I have 1gig or ram and a 2.67ghz processor so I'm not too worried about resources :D
  16. So one could possible work with gnome, but on the other hand it may crash it?
  17. if I wanted to try fluxbox would I have to ditch gnome? Sorry for all the questions, I just have no clue about this area at all. mark
  18. so using a window manager is a bad idea?? I think I'm even more confused now
  19. thanks, that would be a great help :D Mark
  20. I took down the firewall via yast2 and rebooted my system, now I can connect with limewire. Do any of you know how to let the firewall allow limewire to run so I can use limewire while having the firewall up? mark
  21. I'm currently running gnome for desktop environment. I've currently seen some of your desktops and I've been drooling over them :D I've been checking out some theme sites and it seems that if you want to have a very nice theme you need a window manager  I'm not sure if I"m understanding it correctly. I see ones like fluxbox, blackbox, sawfish, etc... Do you download something like fluxbox and it runs with gnome?? As you can see I'm a bit of a jumbled mess on this, if someone could help me understand this a lil better it would be much appreciated. Thanks Mark
  22. yeah, I saw the article on /. but couldn't get to kde.org to check out further details. Mark
  23. I found that limewire directory and double clicked on the file and it worked just fine :D The only problem is that I can't get LimeWire to connect but I think I know why. I'm running the firewall in Yast so I'm figuring that is what is restricting that. Do you guys know how to set it up so that I can run LimeWire with the firewall? Mark
