  2. Hello everyone, I go to the install software program and choose what I want to install, however, when it asks me for a cd I put in the cd it asks for and when I do I press okay and it waits a second and it tells me to put in the same CD, almost as if it thinks I didn't just put it in. Anything helps -neocytrix
  3. Im having quite a few problems with installing stuff, ect. Im going to re-install mandrake this weekend, thanks for your help, this should solve the problem because the problem is only recent and it started off fine. Thanks for taking the time to test that for me and everything, its greatly appreciated. -Neocytrix :D
  4. Okay new info, I can ping www.google.com without a problem and I can log onto one of my friends SSH server, but my friend can't ping me and I can't ping him, that goes for another friend that uses Windows to. -neocytrix
  5. We are both on broadband lines so our IP doesn't change, im going to PM you the IP's instead of put them out so the public can't see them. -neocytrix
  6. Yeah that doesn't work either, I haven't successfully done it to any IP except 127.0.0.1. -neocytrix
  7. Hello everyone, I have been having a wierd problem, im not sure if its my portscanner(s) or my internet settings. I have tested both nmap and portscan and both are having problems scanning, when I use nmap to scan my friend's IP (he isn't using a firewall or anything like that) nmap comes up with the following error: Note: Host seems down. If it is really up, but blocking our ping probes, try -P0 Nmap run completed -- 1 IP address (0 hosts up) scanned in 12.062 seconds The other program portscan doesn't scan it at all. however, im not sure if the problem is the portscanners because I can't ping his IP either and I am able to ping 127.0.0.1 with both of them just fine. I don't have any idea what to do, anything helps. -neocytrix
  8. nmap owns :D Thanks! -Neocytrix B)
  9. Thats also what I would do, I have heard that its actually better for the computer because bootup is the hardest time for the computer, I don't know if thats true for sure, but I have never had a problem with leaving it on, and unless you can't for some reason, I would start to leave it on at night and just reboot it once a day. -Neocytrix
  10. I have used both, havent had a problem with either of them. I would have to say I like intel better because my intel is faster than the AMD I used before lol.
  11. lol I think its clear that building your own is the best way to go, and yes you can do it! They make it a lot easyer than you think, buy a case, motherboard, processor), RAM, optical drives, and anything that you need that your motherboard might not have (video card, sound card, NIC card, USB ). My motherboard (ASUS P4C 800 delux) came with everything besides the video card. -Neocytrix
  12. Hello everyone, I have recently had problems mounting my cdrom, I go to file:/mnt/cdrom and it doesn't have anything there even though theres a cd in it. I try to create a new device from the desktop and I can't get it to mount. However, KsCD can stil play cd's that are in the cdrom. -Neocytrix
  13. It really isn't a no brainer, people still can create viruses for linux, but are you going to work hard making a program to destroy the small amount of linux computers or the HUGE amount of Microsoft systems, if your going to work hard to make a virus, you want it to effect the most people, and thats why most viruses are for Windows computers -Neocytrix
  14. Hello, Does anyone know any good portscanners, I have one but it seems to only be able to scan linux machines, is there one that can do both linux and windows? -Neocytrix

  19. Hey everyone! I was fooling around with the looknfeel in mandrake and now when linux starts it starts in text mode, I have to log in as admin and type kdm to start the graphical environment. How do I get this setting back to default? I can't remember what I changed -Neocytrix
  20. Hello again, I was wondering if there are any perl programmers out there that would know how to make text a different color. Example print "this is a test"; How would I make the words "this is a test" a different color? Is there a way? -Neocytrix
