Rats! I may just wait for 2009.1 and see what theyre offering. KDE4.2 is good for the minute, and i dont wanna risk breaking it.

    KDE 4.2.2

I think I had this when I upgraded to 4.2. I had to disable, I think, legacy window support IIRC.
  3. When I installed it installed the server kernel, I think this is due to the fact I'm running raid and a dual cpu. How can I add this KDE VFS? I checked in user management in MCC, and all I can see is that the user belongs to its own group, I cant see anything about optical or cdrom? Did I look in the right area?
  4. I'm running a fully updated 2009.0 with KDE4.2. I was unable to get 2008 to run my raid array correctly, tried 2009 and it worked, so I have stuck with it. At first the switch to KDE4 didn't worry me that much, but the more I use it the more I find funny little things that have probably just been overlooked, so I made the decision to run the non-mandriva supported KDE4.2. I've spent a bit of time reading the KDE documentation and I can see where they want to go with KDE, they're on they way, well on the way. It has great potential if utilised properly. I intend to update to 2009.1, I think it will be a great distro. 2008 was fantastic, would be using it if I didn't have that raid issue. 2009 kde4 is a huge step, but has the potential to be fantastic as well. It's relatively stable, fast and usable (wouldn't say simple, that was lost with kde4 I feel). Like Dave, if 2009.1 does what I want, I may grab the power pack.
  5. audiocd:/ returned, Protocol not supported Medo's errata work around did manage to get cds read under KsCD.
  6. Ok, thanks guys, I understand that I can't mount the cd's. How do I play them? Can I see whats on the disk at all?
  7. Hi guys, went to find an old track today, but the CD didn't mount. I have since tried several other audio cd's with the same result. There is nothing in /media/cdrom/ I can use DVD's without any problems at all. I'm at a loss where to go from here. Any help most appreciated.
  8. [root@localhost matthew]# modprobe -a Usage: modprobe [-v] [-V] [-C config-file] [-n] [-i] [-q] [-b] [-o <modname>] [ --dump-modversions ] <modname> [parameters...] modprobe -r [-n] [-i] [-v] <modulename> ... modprobe -l -t <dirname> [ -a <modulename> ...] [root@localhost matthew]# lsmod | grep rt73usb rt73usb 25472 0 crc_itu_t 5888 1 rt73usb rt2x00usb 13056 1 rt73usb rt2x00lib 29312 2 rt73usb,rt2x00usb usbcore 137968 9 rt73usb,rt2x00usb,usblp,usb_storage,uhci_hcd,ohci_hcd,ehci_hcd,usbhid [root@localhost matthew]# Looks as though the lsmod command works. I loaded MCC and the wireless card is showing as a connection adaptor, so hopefully I just need to configure it.
  9. Kernel is: [matthew@localhost ~]$ uname -r 2.6.27.19-desktop-1mnb [matthew@localhost ~]$ I don't follow what you mean with the modprobe command, that didn't return anything/
  10. Is there some way that I can monitor the health of the array. Intel provides a nice interface for windows, but nothing for Linux, instead letting dmraid look after it. I can't see a way to monitor the array.
  11. Hi guys, I have a D-link wireless usb connection. In windows it was a matter of installing the drivers and plugging in. How ever I'm not sure where to start with Mandy. I plugged it in and nothing happend, or so it seemed. It's model is DWA-110. The d-link site didn't appear to have any linux on there at all.
  12. Hi, I had a similar thing upon a kernel update. When I got the screen with the cursor in the upper left I used ctrl + alt + F1 and then logged into that terminal and used XFdrake in there I could then select the required driver.
  13. Found a solution. Courtesy: http://groups.google.com/group/iitdlug/bro...7d350e6547225ec I found it wasn't just dolphin that was opening in fullscreen. Can we tagged as [solved]?
  14. A.I. I had a look there, but cannot see anything that could change this.
  15. Hi guys. I've updated to KDE4.2 and so far it feels snappier and more polished. Unfortunately when I open dolphin it opens in fullscreen mode, which is a real pain as I then cant simply use the minimize/maximise/close buttons. I've looked around but can't see how to change this. Any help most appreciated. [moved from Software by spinynorman]

Ooops, I got a bit carried away! I checked here: http://lwn.net/Articles/322636/ And.....It only effects Mandriva 2008.1, I'm running 2009 with OO3.0, not the older OO2.4. Sorry, thanks for the help
  17. Ok thanks Lex. I see you have the same ratty KDE wall paper as me. I'm gonna bring back the Mandriva one. [EDIT] Can someone point me to the original wall paper? I believe its still installed, I just don't know where.
  18. I goggle'd the missing packages and installed them manually and eventually I got them all. Logged out and back in and its all good again. Very relieved. Not sure if I'd recommend someone do it. I was worried I'd broke it. Only complaint, the Mandriva wallpaper is gone. I'll have to change that.
  19. Lex are you running 3d effects? I have compiz running also. Will there be an official mandriva release? I really hope I haven't broken my system.
  20. I found and installed the rpm package mentioned earlier in the thread, but now I get: These can't be selected: - akonadi-common-1.1.1-2mdv2009.0.i586 (due to unsatisfied libboost_program_options-mt.so.1.36.0) - kipi-plugins-0.2.0-1.rc2.2mdv2009.0.i586 - kopete-4.2.1-1mdv2009.0.i586 (due to unsatisfied jasper) - libakonadiprivate1-1.1.1-2mdv2009.0.i586 (due to unsatisfied libboost_program_options-mt.so.1.36.0) - libkipiplugins1-0.2.0-1.rc2.2mdv2009.0.i586 I see a couple of those are rc2 files. Does this mean I need to add the cooker repos? and is this going to be stable? I was expecting this to be an easy update, but has not been at all. It has broken my desktop somewhat, the actual desktop plasmoid is dead, and my panel is wrecked, as in distorted and doesn't show programs running. I'm in a spot of bother now.
  21. I cant install it! I have conflicts with kde4base-workspace. What do I need to do?
  22. Lex, thanks again. Your post has given me enough confidence to go ahead with the update. It's downloading right now. Wish me luck! Thanks

Can someone please advise me of the name of the updated package? I did an update today but didn't look to see if it was included or not. :( Silly me!
  24. I used the line in the second post as suited to me in Australia and bash didn't recognise the command. So in MCC I added the following medium: http://mirror.pacific.net.au/kde/stable/4....009.0/RPMS/i586 I have tagged it as an update medium. Is this correct? Now when I go to update the system it asks to remove two packages, then says that several packages can't be selected, and these do not have a tick in their check boxes. I don't want to break my system. Do I just go ahead with the update as above? Or have I done something wrong? Thanks all.
