  1. I am looking for wi-fi options but I want the hardware to natively support linux. I want a pcmcia since I am running a laptop. Any Idea which ones are Mandriva friendly?
  2. I haven't been able to find a php-gd2 rpm package, I have imagemagik and it requires php-gd2. I DO however have libgd2 and libgd2-devel installed. Is there any way I can find either the RPM or do a manual binding?
  3. Hi I've read the man but haven't got luck sorting a list by different parameters like Date, Name, properties (rxw), node etc. Also I want to know how can I list directories (folders) only. I've tried ls -d or ls --directories but didn't work, just got a /.. output.

    MySQL-doc

Does mandrake provides the documentation for MySQL? I have looked for it with no luck. Anyone have installed xchm and is there a way to check it's dependencies online. Unfortuantely since I dont have an on-line mandrake I need to download it from the FTP and then try (each night) :S
  6. I am somehow confused about the Apache organization in Mandrake. I have the advx folders and also some folders with the general Apache2.0 and 1.3. I also seen commands like advxrun2.0 and advx1.3 and /etc/httpd/conf/httpd2.conf and httpd.conf also some of the modules under 16-mod_python.so on the extensions-modules/ folder somwhere in another branch of the computer. So this makes me wonder, how can I confure the mod_python module since my python files still dont get recognized. Any apache expert? [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  7. A thanks, I got it to work actually (wvdial) but I didn't know that about kppp. Another question, sometiems the modem don't free itself (it has itself busy). On Kppp I ust go to open a terminal and one of the menu actions is reset modem. I wonder if there is the command line method to do this. Regards.
  8. So I got wvdial package after a while and use kppp to connect to the internet however I have some issues with X and I loose my connection everytime it crashes. My question is if I can use wvdial to connect and how? When I try to use wvdial from the terminal I get wvdialconf and it goes to locate the modem, it does locate it but it can't get to configure it. So my issue has to do with how to configure my modem with wvdial . The output it generates is something like this: Scanning your serial ports for a modem. Port Scan<*1>: Scanning ttyLT0 first, /dev/modem is a link to it. ttyLT0<Info>: Device or resource busy Port Scan<*1>: LT0 ttyS0<Info>: Device or resource busy Port Scan<*1>: S0 ttyS1<Info>: Device or resource busy Port Scan<*1>: S1 ttyS2<Info>: Device or resource busy Port Scan<*1>: S2 ttyS3<Info>: Device or resource busy Port Scan<*1>: S3 ttyS4<Info>: Device or resource busy Port Scan<*1>: S4 ttyS5<Info>: Device or resource busy Port Scan<*1>: S5 ttyS6<Info>: Device or resource busy Port Scan<*1>: S6 ttyS7<Info>: Device or resource busy Port Scan<*1>: S7 ttySLT0<Info>: Device or resource busy Port Scan<*1>: SLT0 Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program? Did you configure it properly with setserial? Please read the FAQ at http://open.nit.ca/wvdial/ If you still have problems, send mail to wvdial-list@lists.nit.ca. Kppp is NOT running and the modem is 'available' it is indeed in ttyLT0 acording to the module and the modprobe conf.

I upgrade to xorg-6.?? including the packages server, X11, 75dpi, 100dpi etc. After some time now my X crashes, I am using xfce and my hardware is a laptop PIII at 785 Mhz and 197 MB of RAM. I agree is not the latest hardware but my resources are well conserve so is not a memory issue. I also see the mouse having some odd behavior like loosing the hability to do click. This is the synaptics module.

    My home is gone

Thanks for repliying at this moment I can't really post it but it looks like the fstab is unafected. When I put dd just / partition, no swap, no /home/ no sda5 (external hd). This lead me to think that is about the Kernel. However I still have no idea what to look into. dmesg doesn't report anyhting odd. I wonder 2 things, how can I check the modules status and see if they are enable or not. My FS are: / is ReiserFS /home/ is XFS sda5/ is Fat32

    My home is gone

I found my home folder was empty, no user folder, X couldn't boot and well just basically nothing was going on. I do remember the last time I was using it, I used modprobe -r yenta_socket but nothing happened also depmod. But that is really unrelated... My question is how can I know what happened, I went to the /var/logs/ but didn't know what to look for, errors, warnings, and others didn't really show me anything. I would like to know where I can tell what who when did the home disapeared. :| [moved from Security by spinynorman]

  18. Hi people, I have an issue using the gnome keyboard applet where you click on it and changes your keyboard layout. I see the option I want, however when I click on it it doesnt switch. I go to Preferences, and groups and add a few languages (not just english) and then try to switch the keyboard and 'english' is the only option even thought I added more. Can anyone help me how to fix this, maybe I need some locales packages to make this accesible. Can I at least know how to verbose the error. Cheers.

  21. Hi I want to know a good way to install an application server which will serve the rpm necesary for a instalation across a large network. I want to get several clients to urpmi their way to the local server and start installing all the packages necesary full with updates and plf packages. Anyone has a tutorial suggestion or article talking about that? Thanks
  22. I remember Mandrake 9.x used to have netowrking profiles, that mean that you will have a set of connection parameters on devices under a profile and when you switch enviroments you just switch the profile on mcc. However I am on 10.1 and I dont see this functionality, I wonder where it went? My problem: I got a dial up connection and a network card. Sometimes I get on with the modem on the internet then I want my friend connects to the LAN and want to get on line so I tried to enable ICS. The problem is that when I start up the network card, my DNS get screwed up and I stop recieving internet because it asumes that I am triying to connect to the internet from the network card. Anyway to solve this. Note: Sometimes he gets on line and I need to the internet comming thru eth0, anyway to help me with this?
  23. Hi, I got some networking questions regarding my Linux laptop. I just succesfully run my Lucent WinModem on my laptop. Now I wanted to get on line, great, no problem. However until yesterday I tried to connect and the modem was nowhere to be found, I did a depmod -a modprobe ltserial Then it seems that the modem was just nowhere to be found so I did the following ln -s /dev/ttyTLS0 /dev/modem Cool, the modem was found again, so I dial now and sign in but after getting in the connection breaks. I have seen this reported before can anyone help me.
  24. UPDATE: OK, now I have monitor the network and here is another case: 1. I start the network again, and sign ont he internet from the XP 2. I start the mandrake and start the pcmcia and can't see the hub 3. I disable/enable the network on the XP 4. After enabling the network again, I get a response from the hub and I get internet. So I guess the problem has to do with the XP network, for odd reasons I am not able to get the computer to recognize themselves automatically.
