  1. And a follow-up question: assuming I have all the required packages, how do I recompile the nVidia kernel module?
  2. From this message by Adam I understood the whole process was supposed to take place automatically. Could you please be more specific with the names of the packages I need? I looked at the MCC - Software installation tool. I found a package called dkms-nvidia96xx already installed. Besides I found kernel-source-2.6.17.13mdv and the kernel-source-2.6.17.22 is not installed (but kernel-desktop-devel-2.6.22.9-1mdv is installed), and no package as kernel-source-devel of any sort, installed or in the repos. Should I install something, like the kernel-source-2.6.17.22, could that be the reason? Wasn't it supposed to be installed on the upgrade? And how can I make sure there aren't any other important packages missing? Sorry for all the questions, I'm a bit lost here.
  3. Hi all, I upgraded my MDV 2007.1 to 2008.0 from the CD's with no special problem. Of course the nVidia proprietary driver was not upgraded. After I logged in I changed my driver to the nVidia GeForce 3-4 (96xx) one - the same as I ran in 2007.1 with no problem (including the 3-D effects and all that jazz). After installation of the package and activation of the proprietary driver I got the following message: An error occurred: (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Please ensure (EE) NVIDIA(0): that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system, and Try to change some parameters After approval I was asked to log out and in. After logging out I got a message in text mode saying it can't start the X-server, asking me to try another driver. So for the meanwhile I'm running with the non-proprietary one. I also tried running from the Live CD, and got all the 3-D effects out of the box. Of course I prefer not to do a fresh installation from the live CD. Maybe I need to re-compile the kernel? Any advice? Thanks!
  4. OK, did it from the CD's. Thanks everyone.
  5. Thanks for the explanation. I think I'll go with the network installation after all.
  6. Am I? If the DVD/CD's are Free, they do not include the Nvidia/ATI drivers, for example. So what happens? And if I install from the network, will everything be upgraded, or will it be identical to the DVD upgrade?
  7. Mondo doesn't support MDV 2007.1. See Q24 in http://trac.mondorescue.org/wiki/FAQ. Even after the recommended changes, I still get a fatal error message, and not being able to run the program.
  8. I thought of doing it Adam's way, who referred to this page. Have you tried your way? Didn't crash in the middle or anything?
  9. OK, I downloaded the One CD and the Free CD's, and after backing up my home directory I'm ready to rock n' roll. Now, has anyone actually try to upgrade from 2007.1 to 2008.0 via the network (using the boot image) and/or the CD's? Which is better in your opinion?
  10. Ok, downloaded from this site and now md5 checksum is right. Thank you very much, sorry for all the trouble.
  11. You see? We have a phrase in Hebrew: When you explain to me slowly, I understand quickly... I think I'll try to install from the boot.iso as well, but I prefer to have the 3 CD's just in case something goes wrong. EDIT: Wait! I just saw on the link that there is Gnome One version. Just the other day Adam explained that they didn't create a Gnome live CD, only KDE. What's going on?
  12. I really apologize for being so difficult, but where in the site can I find the iso images of the three CD's of MDV 2008.0? All I could find were the boot.iso and all the rpm's.
  13. Thanks, but I couldn't find MDV 2008.0 on the site. Can you please show me where they put it?
  14. Oh, this is another issue I am not able to solve yet - I can't use bittorrent. But you are saying the md5 files on the site should be correct?
  15. Hi everyone, I downloaded Mandriva 2008 Free in the form of the three CD's from here. While the md5 check sum of CD's 2 and 3 are correct, the checksum of CD 1 I get is: 7e15581103d1737bbf6c026b2d08718d While this in the site is: cf131e82623c3409a8930774b8b9329b I downloaded CD 1 twice, and got the same answer twice. Has anyone downloaded CD1 and can tell me what md5 sum he gets? Thanks!

    install "make"

You can configure your urpmi through the MCC (Mandrive Control Center). I haven't seen the MCC of 2008, but it should be under Software management, then click "Select from where software packages are downloaded" or something like that. From there you'll find your way, if not please come back.
  17. This is exactly what I do. But even using aria, I get a connection of only ~20kb/sec. Besides, using the cd's won't update the proprietary drivers (as Adam mentioned), so I'm still considering upgrading from the network and not locally.
  18. Installing from live CD doesn't help me, I'm using Gnome.
  19. Sorry for the stupid question, but in what site? For example I couldn't find it here. Besides, do I need the boot.iso of 2007 or 2008, or there is only one version?
  20. Hi Adam, in the page you linked to it says one should start the upgrade process from booting the computer from a boot.iso image. Where can I find it? It isn't in the 2008 mirrors. Do I need this boot.iso file from 2008 mirror, 2007 mirror, or it doesn't matter?
  21. Hi everyone, I'm trying to download Mandriva 2008 via BitTorrent (my first time using this method). Teh connection is very slow, like 0.1kb/sec. After 20 minutes of running I see the following messages in the log tab: [5.0.7 2007-10-12 17:22:01] DEBUG : created torrent [5.0.7 2007-10-12 17:22:02] DEBUG : created torrent, initializing [5.0.7 2007-10-12 17:22:02] DEBUG : _initialize: self.working_path=/home/uri/.bittorrent/incomplete/4232e3c0-fd86 [5.0.7 2007-10-12 17:22:02] DEBUG : _initialize: returned from Storage startup. 22. Sorry, didn't try it myself yet, so I don't know.
