I am trying to install mplayer and dvdrip. dvdrip requires: ImageMagic-5.5.4.4-7mdk libMagic 5.5.4-5.5.4-7mdk libwmf-0.2.8-2mdk libwmf0.2_7-0.2.8-2mdk Transcode=0.6.3-2plf libdvdcss ogmtool-1.0.1-1mdk perl-Event-0.86-3mdk fping-2.4b2-4mdk I have managed to find the last three, but I cannot access most ftp sites, so it makes it very hard to find the dependencies that I need. :(

for the site you gave me I used the software source manager, but i have used command line for other sites and I got the same response.

I was using plf, but I tried the site you supplied for 9.1 and I got unable to update medium. :(

I went to mandrake configure and uninstall software and searched for gtk-gnutella, and clicked on it and it shows where the files are located. /usr/bin/gtk-gnutella and that worked for my menu command.

It says unable to update medium it will automatically be disabled This is what happens everytime. I tried to urpmi for dvdrip and it can't do it because it is unable to update medium.

I am having the same problem with gnutella. I treid gtk-gnutella --help, but all it does is start the program. I also tried gtk-gnutella as the command and it doesn't do anything

Well it just got worse. I tried urpmi and it won't contact any ftp sites to get all of the dependencies I need, in fact it says it will ignore that site. I tried changing contrib sites and it didn't help at all. I don't know enough to even guess what is going wrong.

I tried using galeon in a terminal. No difference. I did notice that at the bottom of the screen it says 0% loaded, but it is loding information. it looks something like this Transfering data from ftp.pbone.net (0% complete, 1705 kB of 1707 kB loaded) This one loaded more than most, but all I got was a blank, black screen. This is the place I tried to download from. ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/plf.zarb.org/p...1.2plf.i586.rpm

Yes I can go to ftp://213.232.94.69/pub and I have tried to use gftp and it would open a directory, the first time I tried it, but the it asked for a password. When it did open a directory, I still could not get it to download anything. I will try galeon in a terminal and see if it works.

OK I have mencoder, but I can't find a howto. Is there a gui for it? I don't know how to use it.

I cannot access ftp site with galeon or mozilla. It will say transfering data at the bottom of the screen and after about 70 kb it just stops, and I am left with a blank black screen. I can't get to most rpm downloads, I have been trying to download gnutella for a week, but I cannot find a site that works. I am not using a firewall (another problem), so that shouldn't be a problem.

How do I go about copying a dvd and making vcd ? What software do I use? I have mplayer, but I haven't found anything in it that will do this. (Hooray! I get to learn something new about Mandrake!)

It seem that no matter what firewall I use I have problems. I have to disable my firewall to get gnutella to work right. when I try it with an active firewall it doesn't connect, and if I try to set up the firewall so it will work it causes something to happen so that I cannot even access the net with my firewall active. I have had this happen with shorewall, guarddog and firestarter. I uninstalled my firewall, and the iptables, and then reinstalled them. This seemed to work for a coup[le of times, but them back to the same problem gnutella cannot connect and if I try to fix it, it just shuts me off from the net. I am also having another problem whcih may or may not be a security problem. I cannot access ftp sites. It will load for awhile and give me a black sceen and then it will stop doing anything. No writing, nothing. I can't download anything because there is nothing to download. Any ideas?

I can't access ftp sites. I have my firewall disabled. I try to got to an ftp site and it will load for awhile and then it just stops. I cannot even go to the mandrakeusers ftp site. any ideas?

I am using Eroaster I have to use it as root. I haven't figured out how to configure it to use as a normal user. Could this be causing my problem? I did reboot and try again.

I am having a problem accessing my cdroms. I just burned four cds and I was wanting to check them. I am using fluxbox, so I opened konqueror and typed in /mnt/cdrom/ and it opened the cd fine, but the next time I tried to do it I was told that I did not have access rights to open the cdrom. So I tried the other cdrom and I got the same response. So I opened a terminal and logged in as root and then opened konqueror and tried to open the cdrom and I was told that I didn't have access rights. I have no idea what is going on. I have shut down my computer and rebooted and I get the same response. I have access my cdroms before, so something has changed, but I don't know what.

I uninstalled guarddo, firestarter, shorewaal, and the ip tables. I reinstalled shorewall and the ip tables. gnutella seems to be working fine now. I am not sure how to configure the fire wall I don't know what ssh is, or cups. I should probably go to the networking section for this. Thank you everybody for your help.

Can anyone tell me what iptables are?

In Mandrake control centre I get this: If I go to package installation it shows: iptables-ipv6-1.2.7a-2mdk If I go to pachage removal it shows: iptables-1.2.7a-2mdk Are they the same thing?

Thank you GorGor I have one last (I hope) question, where do I get the iptables once I have uninstalled them ? Are they on the installation cds? I have uninstalled guarddog and I think I am going to try firestarter.

I had some one help me, a guy named Martin for Raintree.org, with my first install. I need my computer for school, so I don't really want to do now. Maybe during the break. Isn't there a way that you can save the settings (which packages you installed) and reload them when you do a new install ?
