  1. Well, thnx, im downloading the gThumb now, about the other, is there any link or something? a bit more specific.... I suppouse there is some good prog for the console, because i used to have one for DOS a long time ago (SEA was its name as far as i remember), so im not going to believe that Linux doesnt have one....
  2. Couldnt agree more...
  3. I was looking for an image viewer for the console, in first place, any program able to show pics, but if i get picky... well, a good program! Also, if there is any for X kind of irfanview for windows, i really miss that one. Im thinking on ussing it with WINE, but the last version i wanted to use it i had to delete a directory (someone over here gave the tip) to make it work. Any way, if there is a good native im. viewer, better. I already searched trough sourceforge and freshmeat, but they dont have good search options, and i couldnt find any fitting my needs. Any help, really apreciated.
  4. hey, well, whats in your first line is this: and what the link from emh points to is this: as you see, de -devel- part is missing in your library. this means you dont have the development library. try it out. it may work. cya
  5. Well. thats real bad news... .... so loky went out of buss?... damn i remember some years ago when i first tryed linux they being the only ones doing port of games.... now is there someone else? or what? about alpha, well, i guess that why i have VMware installed... but hey! i would liked it native (or sort of)
  6. Well i havent found a solution yet. :x :( But i made the 'base' install of LFS... 8) Anyway, i still want those 2gb missing back, So, what to do, what to do?? Im thinking about the copy and reformat stuff, but i really dont want to do that... but if i have to... then: im going to format the new partition with ReiserFS, so, when i copy my LFS system back to the partition, modify the fstab of all my linuxs, modify lilo, what else do i do? I mean, i know the kernel has to have reiserfs support, and that since 2.4.x they do, but, when i get to compile the kernel, real soon, do i have to add an extra option or it will by default? What i want to know, is that if i copy the system just like it was compiled on the first partition will i have to make any other changes than the above (modify the fstab of all my linuxs, modify lilo)...... :?
  7. Hi, well, im making some progress now, im deleting 'real time' the sources so i save some space. about: When was 1gb sized it was smaller, now its like 3 times its size, so i guess its well represented, what i didnt do, was rerun the format command. crappy diskdrake... there isnt something i can do to make it 'know' to the system that is a 3gb part. or to make DD see its a 1gb... i dont know what the heck is it... it should be a 3gb one.
  8. Thnx for everything now, bvc here is df -h [root@localhost lfs]# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/hdb1 1.5G 466M 935M 34% / /dev/hdb8 3.4G 964M 2.3G 30% /down /dev/hdb7 3.9G 2.8G 1.2G 72% /home /dev/hda5 3.8G 1.7G 1.9G 47% /mnt/hda5 /dev/hda7 2.4G 268M 2.1G 12% /mnt/hda7 /dev/hdb9 1.1G 642M 377M 64% /mnt/lfs <--- problem;-) /dev/hda1 7.6G 7.1G 548M 93% /mnt/windows /dev/hdb6 2.9G 2.3G 539M 81% /usr [root@localhost lfs]# As you see, it says 1.1, when DiskDrake says 3gb, so i guess rcxau is right and DiskDrake is malfuncioning. If there is no solution, and i havce to delete and redo the LFS partition, can i backup (copy) everything to another partition, make a reiserfs one and move everything to that one? Its just that i read a thread about the advantages and cons of each and i think RFS is a good try, so, if i make a partition and format it as RFS i think there is no problem on wich filesystem was .. i mean, i can move it to RFS without recompiling or having any problems? Anyway, i would prefer to get my 2gb missing back without having to do all that.[/b]
  9. Hi, I have Alpha Centaury, windows version, i like games, a lot. So i was looking what was native for linux, and found among others, Alpha, so i thought that i may have a chance replacing some files to make it work under linux, is this so? i knew this was possible for UT for ex. Thnx,
  10. Hello! Well, this is whats going on: I did all my homework by the book with LFS 4.1 and got to the part of chroot and compiling the pre-final system. When i get to compile Glibc-2.3.1, i get the following error. a - elf/dl-sym.o /static/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.2.1/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ar: libc.a: No space left on device make[1]: *** [/glibc-build/libc.a] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/glibc-2.3.1' make: *** [all] Error 2 So i did some research --google--, about what was libc.a and a No space left error. I found out that its a lack of space in the partition (as No space left on device sugested :-) but! i dont understood why. I mean, the first time i started building the LFS, i got more or less to this point, and the same thing happend, but with a different type of error that led me to the same conclusion as now. This was becouse i made a 1GB partition, wich obviously wasnt enough, then i decided to erase that partittion, and make a new 3GB one, where i installed this new LFS. Now, when i realised this was another harddrive space problem, i went to the /mnt/lfs (where i mounted it) and chequed its size... its ONE GB!!! And i dont understand why!, i went to MCC, and chequed with DiskDrake in Mount Points. It says 3GB, so, i think im missing something when the mounting thing starts up, and setup the partition, there must be a problem with the cylinders or whatever that makes my 3gb partition behave as a 1gb one. Does anyone know how to fix this without making me redo al the LFS thing again??
  11. Hi, well i actually forgot  to post last night i got it working! thanks for the tip anyway. I did that, but with soundwrapper /usr/bin/mozilla %u the problem was that i had renamed mozilla in /usr/bin to mozilla.bk and placed a symbolic link called mozilla pointing to /usr/local/mozilla/mozilla where mozilla 1.4 is installed, when i deleted the symbolic link and renamed back mozilla.bk to mozilla, i launched it and it kept opening moz 1.4, the thing was that in a virtual desktop i had a running window of mozilla 1.4 and it seems that was the problem, becouse when i closed it, and tryed again (i just imagined something like this was going on) it worked, i got 1.3.1 as my default browser again... AND IM SO HAPPY!!! At least, i hope this thread will help anyone who has the same problem. Thanks again for the help!
  12. Hi, well, i tryed everything i could, and i cant still get 1.4 not to show me the Profile thingy, also, the fonts are all screwed up, then, i decided to go back to 1.3.1, BUT! as i didnt installed 1.4 from a RPM.... i cant uninstall, but anyway, i dont want to uninstall it, i just want to run 1.3.1, and i cant becouse it keeps launching 1.4, although /usr/lib/mozilla-1.3.1 its there, and it has all its files in. when i installed 1.4 i changed /usr/bin/mozilla , i renamed it and made a soft link to the 1.4, so the apps and everything could lauch 1.4... Now, i made the changes back, and still launches 1.4!!! so, if someone, can give me its 'execute' thing on the properties of the link they use to launch it, i would be very gratefull.... also, any other way of fixing this is welcome.
  13. Hey ramfree, do you remember how to set it up for the startup on detail?? I remember it came by default with the MDK8.1 and some other distros i tryed... but 9.1 doesnt... so if someone knows how.
  14. Hey, Yes you can, just go to the panel and right click, then select add menu - extension submenu, and there is a clone panel o something similar.... its pretty easy, im not at my home actually so i cant say literally what to click, but its on the add menu, the submenus are --aplet, application, extension and something else, i think its in the extension one, there are some like, taskbar, son panel or something thats the one to go. hope you find it.
  15. PS: About the skins, I know that they have lot of work and everything, but a good interface its an important thing, and if its good looking, better then. A dont say that they should only do skins! i just sayd they could at least add a new one with this very release...! I dont do it my self becouse i suck at doing it ... i would love to do a nice one... and its true that very few users have done skins... and whats worst! they are horrible! (just like 1.4 fonts ;-)) , to skin makers, dont take this bad, but hey!, they are all clones of Modern, and the few that are not, emulate IE or other ugly thing... well, i guess i will have to stick to Moder or some clone until something good appears.
  16. HA! dont tell i didnt tell you so! Then its true, the fonts look horrible eh!? especially some kind of fonts wich look like the old font type used by real old computers... like in Odisey 2000 (sorry for the spell, hope you remember the series... kinda star trek) Well, i really dont know what to do, im actually going back to 1.3.1 if i cant fix this, and in 1.3.1 i didnt had that crapy profile problem neither, but hey! i think i will try out firebird 0.6... if you say its faster, then! its the one for me... i use lynx, but i like graphics and pictures!
  17. Damn, no one uses skins? i love the Modern one, i have always used it, but hey! its that its no longer so Modern... i mean, i have it from quite a long time... I still cant understand why my fonts look all crapy, can anyone tell me about your own fonts configuration?? or something!... and i do also have the problem with the profile manager...
  18. Well, i thought i went with a smooth transition, I got all my books, and prefs as before, the only problem is the FKN profile manager that doesnt let my open another window in another v-desktop without first taking one to it, and using FIle, open new window menu. about books and all that, you should look at your $HOME dir, if there is a .mozilla directory, and there should be all the data. im also running both 1.3.1 and 1.4 without any glitches except the above.
  19. Hi, well i didnt post before becouse i wanted to try out that... but what i usually leave downloading stuff... and i cant dont think i can set that of 'when finishes' mainly becouse i download with the mozilla downloader, with KGet, and others, so, i could do it for urpmi or even wget... but not for the above. also, i can run halt as a normal user, but cant i set it up like shutdown for a determined time/minutes...?? ---------- Lei que sos de España, te molesta si te mando un privado para hablar en castellano??
  20. Yes... But its actually the last MOZILLA release. They may start calling Mozilla Firebird the new generation in a near future, but as far as i know, Firebird is its going to replace Mozilla and i dont think its the same, i mean, they are changing something else than the name...arent?? thats all i meant...
  21. Hi everyone, Yesterday i upgraded Mozilla to 1.4, with all my illusions, i didnt tryed any of the RC coz with dial up and as the RC was updated almost weekly, i thought i would wait till 1.4 final to get those 13mb. 8) I went with the Net Installer becouse it would let me choose if i didnt want something, but finally i decided to go with the full pack ;-) I expected this release very anxiously (obviously miss spelled) i really wanted to see some mayor improvements,... i think the word would be additions, but the essencial was a NEW SKIN. I was so excited about that, i really thought it at least would bring a new one. Being the final version before the 'morph' or whatever to Firebird. But!! as you might all know now, i was dissapointed, there is no new skin... not a single one. So i thought, lets ask at the mandrake linux users forum! So here i am, asking the following. 1- What did you expect from the new version? 2- It has meet your expectatives?? 3- Do you noticed strange change in the fonts?? --ugly, real ugly-- And finally.... any screenshot and a good skin download source is very much welcome. I couldnt find a decent one... Hope someone answers!
  22. Did anyone noticed 'uglier´ fonts with the new 1.4?? i think they are less antialiased or whatever you call it, and by the way. I dont seem to find any new 'big' stuff, for being the final Mozilla release, i thought it would at least bring a new skin... Well, any way, its the best!
  23. Hi again. This time im going to ask about shutdown Its pretty simple, i dont want to make something wrong and i dont think the question will bother someone... I normally use shutdown -h +xxx being xxx a number of minutes, i use this to shutdown the PC when i go to sleep and let it downloading or compiling something and i want it to go down after (i assume) it finished the task. The problem is that i have to be root to use the shutdown command, and i dont understand why. According to this: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 16344 ene 19 19:44 shutdown* as you can see i have the execute permition set to every user, but it doesnt work it posts this: the file is located in : /sbin/shutdown bash: shutdown: command not found well, thats it.
  24. I cant believe it. The only please i didnt search was the forum... thanks bvc, and sorry.
  25. Hi, well, i didnt know where to post this, coz its not programing so i thought it would fit on soft. If this is wrong please ¿move it to the right topic? Im building (or trying to) a linux from scratch... Now, i downloaded all the packages for the 4.1 version, i decided to go with this, becouse beeing this my first LFS and also beeing a newbie i prefer to go safe first, and then make everything to pieces when i have already learned to fix it. The problem is very simple, i did everything 'by the book ;-)' but it seems something is wrong and i cant find what is it. i tryed editing some of the files that appear on the error i will quote, but couldnt make anything usefull, i made all the pre-compiling steps pretty well and had no problem with them, the problem cames with my first source to compile, the BASH 2.05a (i know there is the b version but, hey! i follow the book!) The thing is this, i do everything till the MAKE part, where i get this: Now, does someone knows what do i do to get this thing working....?? I read all the FAQS, README and INSTALL i could find, none speakead of this thing. thanks in advance.
