I think the Workbench forum is the best place for a project like this. :)

Sorry for the bother.
No bother. I'll mark it as solved. :)

This seems pretty short-sighted to me...
I'll move the topic to Everything Linux.

One suggestion that I could give you is to ask this question in the general HW forum if you havent already.
That's not a good idea, mindwave. Please don't encourage members to double post or post in the wrong forum.

A bug has been raised against 2009.0 and is provoking quite a discussion.
Have you updated your kernel recently?
-
FireFreek - please start a new topic about your wireless adaptor. Thanks. :)

Are there any release notes for 2009.1? I have searched all over for them and I can't find them.
I expect they'll appear when the first alpha is due - 28 Novenber. The development plans are here. I'll pin a link to them - and the release notes and errata when they appear. :)

If this topic looks similar to one that was posted in the MCNLive forum, Paul is now working on a Mandriva installation instead... ;)
-
Not even by plf?
The restriction applies to anyone who repackages the fonts, as it would violate the Microsoft EULA.

This thread already covers a lot of topics, so please start a new thread in Virtual Machines and Emulators for advice about Wine and running Windows programs. Thanks :)
Two other tips:
The vast majority of software you will need, has already been packaged by Mandriva or a third-party as RPMs. You already know how to use these, so you know how to install software. :) There is no need to learn in advance how to install all other software - it would be impractical anyway - just use the instructions that are provided with the stuff you're interested in... If there isn't a Mandriva package for you to use, this may be for licensing reasons or it may be that the software is buggy or not maintained.
There's a lot of choice in Linux, but if you expect that there'll always be an application that works like the Windows equivalent, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed...
-
In reading the info from RPMpbone.net it implied that the RPM install will initiate a download of the actual contents required via my on-line connection..... Is this accurate??
Yes. This convoluted procedure is needed because the fonts can be used freely but cannot be repackaged... ;)

Thanks for reporting back - and welcome to the board. :)

I'm not sure this is the right place as it is about updating/upgrading, not installing…
As this involves urpmi and a script, I've moved it to Command Line, etc, Yves. :)

I copied .kde & the sound is back.
A lot easier than following that other thread... :)

8 Hardware issues
8.4 Frequent pauses while running 3D-accelerated applications with NVIDIA hardware

Sorry Spinynorman I missed the thread on the sound problem.
No problem. ;)
-
The sound problem is in the process of being solved here.
Please use this thread for the display problem - start a new one in Hardware for the sound problem if the other topic doesn't help.
Thanks. :)

This topic was started more than 2 years ago, so it may no longer be a problem. :)

BTRFS (pronounced better FS) is currently under development in an effort led by Oracle engineer Chris Mason. With the support of Intel, Red Hat, HP, IBM, BTRFS could become the engine that brings next generation filesystem capabilities to Linux.

An interesting article at Bash Cures Cancer. It's a bit old but I don't think it matters in this case.
Not sure about the site name...
