www.linuxprinting.org has notes on other drivers you might try, but they don't look that promising...
-
Cooker is the Mandriva version currently under development.
Unless you know what you're doing, addressing dependency issues can wreck your current installation, so it may be better to wait for a formal release...
-
There's an rpm in cooker: rpm.pbone.net. :)

Welcome to the board. :)
Firstly, we recommend that you use the Easy Urpmi link at the top of the page to set up sources for updates and other software.
Then you can choose to use urpmi itself, which is described in this FAQ; or if you'd rather use a gui, you can use the Mandrake Control Centre/Configure your Computer option on your menu/taskbar. Go into Software Management - Media Manager to check Updates (and uncheck other options until you need them). Then choose the Updates option under Software Management, where you can select what to install.
The MCC names may vary as I'm still using Mandrake 10.0. B)

As the subject of this thread fits my problem, I shall post my problem here.
The subject was the same, but not the problem, so I've given it its own thread. :)

Hi WOMP, and welcome to the board. :)
I've given your problem its own thread, as it wasn't closely related to the topic you posted in. ;)
-
Edd - it would be helpful if you raised this in the threads you refer to, otherwise anyone using the solutions posted there, will have the same problem...
Thanks :)

The Software Installation FAQ is a good place to start.
tgz and tar.gz files are handled the same way.

Haven't had time to read them yet, but in IE6 on my work machine, the first link has the left-hand menu just to the right of centre, with a large blue panel to the left, and the text disappearing off to the right... but we do have a customised version of IE. :) The second link is similar.
I'm sure it's still worth reading, though. B)

Lowe - I have removed your reply to iphitus as you seem to have misunderstood what he was suggesting. If you follow his instructions, you are taken to one particular site. Please read more carefully in future.
Ghil's response has also been removed as it is no longer relevant - thanks anyway, Ghil. :)

What version of Mandrake/Mandriva are you running?Linux Mandrake 10.1 Official edition
;)
-
Read about it at www.heise.de (English version).
-
Maybe you should take [solved] out of the subject (edit the first message).

Done :)

Excellent news from The Register.
-
The Register reports on the latest machinations...
-
There are also some Linux Wipe Tools available at basicsec.org, which can wipe the swap partition, unused disc space or an entire partition.
The Readme file warns that
journaling filesystems cannot be wiped as cleanly as ext2. For superior data hygiene, always use the ext2 filesystem. These tools were originally recommended on The Register. :)

There's shred, which is included in coreutils, but read the caution in the man page.
Don't know if there's anything better...

I think you can link to actual packages like this:
Yes, but I wanted to give you the option of selecting from the results yourself. Glad you found what you wanted. B)
-
rpm.pbone.net has rpm's built after that date...
I can't link to the search results - just put kopete in the search box. :)
-
i asked to test via PM and you are the third person on this board i have tried to contact either by email or PM .. with zero results
i guess the thing just doesn't work .
There has a problem with the pm system, but it was fixed yesterday.

I think we've exhausted this topic, so I'll close it.
Let's remember that new members as well as long-standing members are entitled to raise questions and express their opinions.

I don't have any personal experience of this, but my research has led me to a different conclusion from arctic. :P
There's an FAQ at hpinkjet.sourceforge.net, which describes 2 HP drivers (hplip & hpijs) - presumably the ones you're referring to - and www.linuxprinting.org recommends the use of the hpijs driver.
Take your pick.

so should i click for the non-free plf's? or simply stick to plf's, will the free-plf suffice?
If you want to adhere to the principles of the Free Software Foundation, you will only use the free source. If your definition of free software is not so rigid, you can select both. :)

Thanks for the replies, for some reason I didn't get email notifications or I'd have checked back sooner. Maybe they got spam filtered by my ISP?
There was a problem on the board, but anon says he's fixed it now. :)
