  1. As a full member of the board – if you're no longer 'new here' – you can create a community blog. Why not share your ideas, interests, hobbies with the community? Accounts of your everyday life may fascinate readers on the other side of the world. You could be the next Bridget Jones or Adrian Mole… :) Broadly speaking, you can write about anything that you could post in Talk-Talk or Everything Linux, but consult an admin or mod if you're in doubt. Use the Blogs link at the top of the page to see the current list of blogs. Above the list, there's a Create a Blog link. Use this to create a community blog; if you already have an external blog, you can link to it here. If you enable friendly URLs, you can reference your blog as https://mandrivausers.org/blog/username. We look forward to finding out more about you!
  2. Thanks for reporting back - and welcome to the board. :)
  3. Imagine being able to open any Web page on your server in OpenOffice.org, edit it, and save the changes back to the server by pressing the Save button. It may sound too good to be true, but that's exactly what the ODF@WWW project is set to achieve. More at Linux.com.
  4. Any offers? We're a week late already...
  5. We don't mind you cross-posting with other boards, but please don't post duplicates here. :)
  6. Thanks for reporting back. I'll mark this as solved. ;)
  7. Found this on Google, which would suggest that this might work: curws=$(dcop kwin KWinInterface currentDesktop)
  8. There's a more extensive review at DistroWatch.
  9. Sure, the name makes you sound like you have some kind of horrible ocular infection, but vee-Dee Eyes has a massive collection of prefab Linux distros ready for you to run in VirtualBox. It's a great way to check out new alpha and beta releases and lesser knowns like Mandriva 2009. More at the downloadsquad.
  10. How much awesome can you cram into a 200MB live CD? A whole lot. NimbleX comes with 550 packages preinstalled, and you'll find the usual Linux apps here: Firefox, K3B, XMMS, MPlayer, Gimp, Kopete, Transmission, Klam AV, and K Office, to name a few. Boot times are wicked fast, even from CD, and installation to a hard drive or USB flash drive is dead simple. If that's not enough, you can customize your own ISO on their website. NimbleX 2008 has just been released and is getting rave reviews at the downloadsquad.
  11. Details. Not sure they've put this in the right category...
  12. When KDE 4.0 was released, it was targeted at specific users and developers - it wasn’t a release for everyone, especially because KDE 3.5 was (and still is) a strong and still maintained desktop. However, due to communication problems, misunderstandings and also due to some very curious users who didn’t read the release notes, almost everyone gave KDE 4.0 a try, and many people complained that specific features they depended on were missing. So to make it easier for the users to decide in advance if the release fits their needs, the KDE team has created a special page highlighting the pros and cons of KDE 4.1, or better said, the changes and the still missing features in comparison to KDE 3.5/KDE 4.0. More at /home/liquidat.
  13. After years of hostility towards Free Software Foundation (FSF) licensing, Microsoft has announced the first in a series of PHP patches - and it's using an FSF license. The Register.
  14. The Mozilla Public License (MPL) is the latest casualty of Google's decision to remove open-source licenses from its popular code hosting service. More at The Register.
  15. You will find the latest Errata at wiki.mandriva.com/en/2009.0_Errata; the latest Release Notes at wiki.mandriva.com/en/2009.0_Notes.
  16. Around 3 month ago OpenOffice.org released its 2.4 boasting quite an impressive arsenal of advancements. However if you thought 2.4 was major release, then you have seen nothing! Come September, OpenOffice.org will release it’s 3.0 version! Preview at hehe2.net.
  17. Linux desktop manufacturer Xandros has acquired Linspire for an undisclosed amount. Xandros will also be keeping existing engineering, support, and key sales employees, and long-time Linspire employee and CEO Larry Kettler will be joining the Xandros executive team as the VP of Business Development. While Xandros didn’t mention their total employee numbers, Xandros CEO Andreas Typaldos claims Xandros to be the third largest Linux company in the world after the acquisition. Former Linspire CEO Kevin Carmony has some harsh criticism of the deal on his blog. More at Socialized Software.
  18. There's a link in arctic's post: www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi. It also appears at the top of each page on this forum. :)
