Does cryptsetup-luks have the possibilliti to encrypt folders?

But there is no reason for installing cryptsetup-luks if it only can make encryption on partitions, as I specified in my first answer diskdrake creates excactly the same.

I'm not quit sure how to make encryption on a folder, but in my repos I can se "bcrypt" and "mcrypt"

Regarding harddrive encryption, then open MCC (ALT + F2 typr mcc) type your root password when promt.

Go to Mount Points open Create, Delete and resize harddisk partitions, click on the partition you want to encrypt, and unmount it.

Still marked you click on Toogle to expert mode click on Options in the new window mark encrypted click ok, new window again type the wanted password click ok, and mount the partition again, restart and now you'll have to type a password for that partition every time you start your computer.

I did that, but after a restart there was no internet.

And the command "service network restart" couldn't start it either.

But now it runs with the router configured to static for this computer, and contigured with my ISP's DNSserver IP's.

And the computer set to DHCP.

Great! Though I don't get it ... If you were on a static IP address, why was the router over-writing the resolv.conf?

That happened only when I tried to set static IP on the computer, but I don't know why I got a blank resolv.conf.

Well I can't tell you how embarrassed I am right now.

But I had done to things wrong, under my configuration and the tests after configuting the router.

1. When I entered the DNSservers IP-adress in my router, I did it in the wrong order instead of this 123.45.45.789 I did it this way 132.45.45.789 (these number are not the right numbers) :woops:

2. After shutting down my router I was so silly that I started my computer before my router.

Unfortunately, there wasn't anything that worked.

According my ISP's support it has something to do with the Motorola Surfboard to do.

I simply didn't get that with the prroblem desription, but between the router and the wall I have Motorola Surfboard. Sorry

And whatever I did with your solution I couldn't get from the router and out.

I tried to shutdown the router with your configuration, and the problem with the blank resolv.conf still remains. ???

But today I have decided to get a new ISP, the one I have now is simply to expencive, with the new one I can get faster stream both up and down, and save 33% an my monthly bill, and as a "bonus" I get a Zyxel router.

But still thanks for your help, it didn't help me, but mayby it can help another with his or her network configuration.

I'm not sure that I understand you correctly, but I'll try to answer you.

I use DHCP, and I use the router as a DNS server.

That means that DNS ip-adress on the computer and the router are not the same. Infact when I log on the I can see that the router is configured to get DNS automatically from my ISP, and I can't see the DNS ip-adress, because the linies are empty.

And not even the Subnet Mask or the gateway adresses are the same as on my computer.

And no I don't use static, I've tried that and that wasn't a succes either.

But I'm just wondering, if I can find my ISP's DNS adresses, and write them into my router do you think that can solve the problem.

I have an ISP who only allows one computer on at the time, but with an router placed between the modem and the computer I can have more than one on at time.

But if I turn the power to router and modem of, or just disconnect the network cable, I can't log on with my Mandriva. There is simply no nameserver configured in /etc/resolv.conf.

One evening I tried to connect for about 2 hours, that was including several new network configurations, but no succes. And I tried restarting the computer several times still no luck.

And now comes the really strange thing.

If I have had disconnected the network in some way, I just have to boot in Windows, and then restart and go in to Mandriva and now the network comes again without any trouble.

The router is a Netgear WGR614v5

Using Mandriva 2007.1 with Windows XP in a dualboot.

Motherboard is a Asrock 939Dual-SATA2

I have run a lspci:

I think you was using the program "Menu Editor", and thats a KDE program ;)

Sorry, I forgot, it's gnome. I didn't use the repos because it only has 1.5.07 and that doesn't have the exclusive options for gmail.

I know several that wont show up, like atop, nmap, gpart, etc (and I can't find deluge).

 

edit: htop does show up.

I think you should recheck your repos, because I have no trouble finding Thunderbird 2. in my repos.

By the way, which version af Mandriva are you using?

Regarding the menu.

My advice in my first post does only reflect on KDE.

But have you installed AlaCarte, for editing the GNOME menu.

I got it working again. :D

Excactly where the problem was I can't tell you, but it was somewhere i the .kde-folder aka the kde configuration.

I simply renamed the old .kde folder, locked out and in again, and then it worked again.

I hope this can help someone in the future.

Open your konsole log in as root like this

$ su
Password:

And now you write or just copy/paste (still as root)

urpmi.removemedia -a

Now you can copy/paste ALL the list that you've got from the EasyUrpmi. (At the end you mayby will have to hit ENTER just once)

After all of this you can just in konsole type this:

urpmi thunderbird

Regarding the menu.

If you install from the repos, the new program will show up in the menu almost every time.

In those 3 years I've been using Mandriva, I think that I've seen one time that it didn't show up in the menu.

If the new package don'e show then try hitting ALT + F2 and type kappfinder, and now you will have a fair chance to find them.

If kappfinder can.t find them then try to find them i the menu editor, you can find all programs in /usr/bin

Yes, you're right. But I personly won't recommend it, you can get some trouble if your KDE (just an examble) not are the same version in all three Mandriva versions.

I've tried my self and I got some trouble with the desktop, I can't remember ecxactly what the problem was, but later on I always make a little /home partition on about 2 ot 3 GB for those systems I don't use very much, and make the "big" /home partition on the most used system writeable from the others.

Have you tried to go into MCC and check there?

You'll find it this way:

Mandriva menu -> System -> Configuration -> Configure your computer.

Type your root password when promted.

In MCC you find Hardware in the menu, in there you'll find Set up the graphical server and Change the screen resolution, and in Configure your monitor you proberly will find your monitor.

I really don't have any solutions for this my self, but my problem is as the topic says, just that my superkey/winkey don't work.

I have just gone from a 64 bit Mandriva where it worked fine, so I do realize this is weird.

I have a Mandriva 2007.1 Spring and it's a Microsoft keyboard with some extra buttons for internet browser, mail, sound and some more none of thes buttons don't work either. I know some of them was working on 64-bit installation.

I have tried almost any Generic and Microsoft keyboard entris in MCC -> Hardware -> Set up your keyboard layout, none of them works. + I've tried to connect a old Labtec keyboard, on the Labtec keyboard the superkey always have worked, but that didn't work either.

I really hope any one can help me with this.

More info:

I've just installed Mandriva 2007.1 32 bit in VirtualBox and in there the superkey works perfectly.

The VirtualBox installation is done from the minicd/network and the desktop is installed from the 32 bit DVD.

And I can setup hotkeys/shortcutkeys in KDE using the superkey.

I hope this can be usefull

i can't seem to install kchm-0.6.5-5mdv2007.0.src.rpm on Mandriva 2007.

it tried ( rpm -i kchm-0.6.5-5mdv2007.0.src.rpm)

also (chmod a+x kchm-0.6.5-5mdv2007.0.src.rpm

./kchm-0.6.5-5mdv2007.0.src.rpm)

and the only exe i found was in /kchm/kchm6.5/src/kpart/kchm.exe when i ran it it said "cannot find my part."

Why not use the kchm in your repository? And you can not use a .exe file on Mandriva this is not a Windows maschine.

Open Mandriva Control Center, choose boot -> Set up how system boots.

You'll find what you're looking for in there.

i've just found Krename in contrib_backports at Mandrivausers.cz

So mayby you need to update urpmi or just make contrib_backports active.

In the command prompt, you first log an root with the su command.

$ su	Click ENTER
Password:	type your root password here, click ENTER

Now you type

kwrite /boot/grub/menu.lst

And now you can paste the SUSE entry into the menu.lst, and save it. :D

The last week I've been setting up a wireless network (windows computers) for my brother in law, and I started out with a D-Link router 624 something, and D-Link 520+ wireless network cards, but all the network cards ended out with Linksys something, because the D-Link cards only could see the network and not submit to it, the Linksys cards runs with 36 Mbps without any Access points or repeters.

Then a IT-admin (expert in network) came by with complet system in Zyxel, both router and network cards, and it could run with 54 Mbps ;-) We Keeped the D-Link and Linksys, but next time I have to setup a wireless network it will be with Zyxel, it's simply better.
