I tried the RC2, and liked it a lot. 2007 Spring didn't fully support my hardware (wireless usb-stick and sound didn't work), but on this release they both worked perfect.

I too hope the final release will be out soon... can't wait for Compiz Fusion ^^

If I do remember correct, then you'll be able to find Compiz Fusion in either /main/backports or /contrib/backports.

So if you can't find Compiz Fusion in RPMdrake, then just ad these lines through EasyUrpmi :D

Which version of Mandriva are you using?

When you set up URPMI, you have to use the repos which have the same number, so are you using 2007 then thats the one you have to use from EasyURPMI, but are you using Mandriva 2007.1 spring, then you have to choose 2007 spring on the first page at the EasyURPMI site.

I really can't remember ig ntfs-config and ntfs-3g was in the repos to the 2007 version.

No you don't have to forget your content on the other harddrive.

Is it formatted with the NTFS filesystem?

If yes, just follow this:

Write su hit ENTER and now type your root/administrator password and hit enter again.

Then you just have to write this:

When done press ALT + F2 and write ntfs-config, hit enter and type your admin password when promed and mark both check boxes hit enter, and you should have write access to your Windows, and to your external device.

Mandriva/Linux can not write to a NTFS filesystem by default, so thats why you have these "problems" right now, but after installing

You can only find official repos on http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php it's the complete same as http://easyurpmi.zarb.org.

At SeerOfsouls.org and www.mde.djura.org are not official, but you can ad them to RpmDrake the same way as from Easy-Urpmi.

From the two other sites you'll have to download tha packages and install them with either the software installer og by using Konsole (commandline)

But as I said before, it's enough to ad Easy-Urpmi, because as Arctic says, you have 16.000 packages to choose between. Not all of them are the newest but they work ;)

Why install from sources, when everything you need is in the repos you get from Easy-Urpmi?

And you can find packages here http://rpmfind.net/ and here http://rpm.pbone.net/

I have learned the hard way, just use the official repos and PLF and nothing els.

If you can't wait for a newer package to arrive in your repositories, then it's best to compile the package your self and if you don't now how, then just ask in here, you can't find a more friendly board on the internet.

I want to remap my mouse buttons so the back/forward buttons (Windows, Mandriva, and Ubuntu default) actually work to go back and forward. How do I go about doing this?

1. Choose "Custom Disk Partitioning"

2. Click on the empty partition.

3. Now you'll have some options at left side on the screen, where you can choose to Delete or Resize this particually partition.

4. If I was in your situation, I would Resize the partition, mark the unallocated partiton (this is the grey partition) and next at the bottum on the screen, I would choose "Allocate Automatic"

5. Now you'll have 3 new partitions, one marked as root, this is the one with the /, one marked as /home, and a green partiton marked as /swap

I hope this helps you, but please ask again if you are unsure at anything.

I don't see the option to update. I see install and I follow it until it askes me which partition to format then I stop.

Read this guide, and look carefully at subsection "Install Type".

If you don't get this screen, with the option to "Upgrade Mandriva Linux 2007.0 ........" Then I'm sure something is wrong with your DVD :)

Wanted to know if anyone has webmin and joomla working on the the same linux server with or without any errors?

What do you have in mind?

Webmin is a control panel for server management (among other thing)

Joomla is a CMS for building a homepage. Joomla have some server dependencies like safe_mode OFF (as far as I remember) but this is something that you should be able to setup in the php.ini file, by using webmin.

Hi All

After I have booted my computer, mdkapplet starts checking for updates, thats pretty nice, but when it has finished checking, my urpmi database is locked, and I can't install anything or update the system.

I have tried ianw1974's answer in this tread https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=32505 it solves the problem at the time, but after an eventually reboot, the problem is back.

After boot it can take mdkapplet up to 15 minutes to check for updates.

Does anyone have an solution for this?

I think 18 month can do it, the server will purely be for home use.

I have thought on CentOS and Debian, but I prefer to use a system that I know.

My plans for the server is to use it for testing my CMS development, Samba sever (Backup) and mayby, thats just mayby, as a media-server.

As the page jkerr linked states: 18 months for 'base' (which is really important packages like kernel, major servers etc) and 12 months for 'desktop'.

Is that including PHP for server use?

Yes. just set in a cd/DVD containing 2007.1 and choose upgrade/update your excisting system, when promted.

But it highly recommended that you have a system running 2007.

If you are running a 2007, you should be able just to change the source.lists from Easyurpmi, but I wouldn't recommend it.

This option has only succeded for for me, one out of three times.

How long time does Mandriva support an older version with updates, after new versions has arrived?

I've looking on Mandriva.com, but I can't seem to find anything about it.

The reason I'm asking is that, I want to set up a server for home use and testing some CMS-development, so I need a system, which can run two maybe three years, and still get security updates.

My prefered system is Mandriva, but if I have to upgrade the system every year I'll find something els, it has to be a server which runs and collects some dust on the outside :D

Try to look in your trash folder at your desktop.

And yes the md5-sum on the DVD has to be the same as the .iso

If the .iso isn't in the trash folder, can't you use a Livecd instead?

You shall choose the kernel-source matching your kernel.

open konsole and type:

uname -r

On my computer that gives this output:

$ uname -r
2.6.17-14mdv

That means I should choose kernel-source-2.6.17.14mdv or kernel-source-stripped-2.6.17.14mdv.
