  1. Hi again earny, hmm, I am not sure, but I guess you tried a different way than the one I suggested - you deleted a whole dir first? I don't understand why. And did you uninstall the kdeartwork package via the MCC? What did you do with the symbolic link - that was the important part? You had set the link by typing in your /usr/share ln -s ./applnk-mdk/.hidden ./applnk-mdk.hidden When you navigate with konqueror to /usr/share you can see this link - the name is: applnk-mdk.hidden (its not a directory) I am a bit lost here. Maybe someone else can can be more helpfull than I ?
  2. I'm sorry, I don't understand what you did :(
  3. Glad to hear that, derxen. --anna, happy non-member of mandrakeclub (=bad girl)
  4. derxen - - you did an upgrade from 9.1 to 9.2? - did you changed your contrib sources to the new 9.2 tree? - they changed (as far as I can see) the relative path to the hdlist.cz for contrib, it's 'not' ../base/hdlist.cz, but only: hdlist.cz Here is my /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg file (please note that there is also an entry for rpm's on my HD which will not fit into your configuration ...) Installation CD 1 (x86) (cdrom1) removable://mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS { hdlist: hdlist.Installation CD 1 (x86) (cdrom1).cz with_hdlist: ../../Mandrake/base/hdlist1.cz removable: /dev/hdb key-ids: 70771ff3 } Installation CD 2 (x86) (cdrom2) removable://mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS2 { hdlist: hdlist.Installation CD 2 (x86) (cdrom2).cz with_hdlist: ../../Mandrake/base/hdlist2.cz removable: /dev/hdb key-ids: 70771ff3 } International CD (x86) (cdrom3) removable://mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS3 { hdlist: hdlist.International CD (x86) (cdrom3).cz with_hdlist: ../../Mandrake/base/hdlist3.cz removable: /dev/hdb key-ids: 70771ff3 } HD_software file://home/chris/rpms { hdlist: hdlist.HD_software.cz list: list.HD_software } contrib ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Mandrake/Mandrake/9.2/contrib/i586 { hdlist: hdlist.contrib.cz with_hdlist: hdlist.cz list: list.contrib } updates ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Mandrake/Mandrake/updates/9.2/RPMS { hdlist: hdlist.updates.cz with_hdlist: ../base/hdlist.cz list: list.updates key-ids: 22458a98 } At the moment many mdk 9.2 users are having problems with the urpmi sources, what I heard. I don't, but I made a clean install, and have set up the urpmi sources manually in MCC. Easy urpmi at the moment generates incorrect sources for 9.2!! And: my lists are not empty at all, all descriptions are there!
  5. Ok, *my* way would be now - but its a nasty way: - uninstall the kdeartwork ...rpm - delete the link in your /usr/share (the link you have set, that is ... - reinstall the kdeartwork package - set the link again LOL, I've nooo idea if this works.
  6. Do you have some of these: /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KBanner.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KBlob.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KBouboule.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KEuphoria.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KFlux.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KFountain.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KGravity.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KLines-saver.desktop ...??
  7. When you did a standard install I am almost sure that you are missing some or maybe a lot of kde packages. They are now separated. Go to the MCC, software install, search for kde - and install them all (except the devel rpm's, if you don't plan to compile kde software). Screensavers are in kdeartwork.blala.rpm
  8. I am using as 9.2 contrib: ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Man...2/contrib/i586/ hdlist.cz or synthesis.hdlist.cz in the same dir. Missing signature too, but no problem so far to install The Gimp 1.3.21 (VERY nice), gthumb 2.1.6 and checkinstall. The update source (same server) has got the key/signature.
  9. Earny, would it help if I post here my lilo.config file, from a fresh 9.2 install? lilo in MBR Windows on hda1 9.2 on hda9 (German keyboard layout, though, just change it to us/Dutch , from your original lilo.config) The last entry is for my 9.1 ML on hda8 - remove it. you would have to edit your lilo.config, with the good partition number, your keyboard layout etc., your cd-rom etc. boot=/dev/hda map=/boot/map vga=normal default="linux" keytable=/boot/de-latin1-nodeadkeys.klt prompt nowarn timeout=400 message=/boot/message menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw image=/boot/vmlinuz label="linux" root=/dev/hda9 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi acpi=ht splash=silent" vga=788 read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz label="linux-nonfb" root=/dev/hda9 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi acpi=ht" read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz label="failsafe" root=/dev/hda9 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="failsafe devfs=nomount hdc=ide-scsi acpi=ht" read-only other=/dev/hda1 label="windows" table=/dev/hda other=/dev/fd0 label="floppy" unsafe image=/mnt/mdkalt//boot/vmlinuz label="mdkalt" root=/dev/hda8 initrd=/mnt/mdkalt//boot/initrd.img append="quiet devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi acpi=off" vga=788 read-only
  10. And if you want your screensavers working (mine did not): In a terminal su to root, cd to /usr/share, then type: ln -s ./applnk-mdk/.hidden ./applnk-mdk.hidden Go to the KDE settings, (configure your desktop), look and feel, screensavers, there they are!
  11. Don'T fill in a user, just leave it empty! And the command is konqueror (with an 'o')
  12. No, it isn't in 9.2 You get it back creating a new shortcut/icon on your desktop. Execute command is: konqueror. Then check: run (or execute??, sorry no English version here) as different user. If you want a konsole su: execute command is: konsole Check the 'run as different user' In Gnome btw I found the neat little gnomesu, works the same way.
  13. Do I get it right: when starting the webbrowser Konqueror you want him to open/start with a specific html page? i.e. your homepage? - Start Konqueror. - Open your preferred website - go to the main bar: settings (or options?, sorry don't have an English version here) - go to (click on): save profile 'webbrowsing' - click ok. Restarting Konqueror: now it will open your page. That's how it works here.
  14. Yes, I installed Aurox 9.1 - Comments --hmm. Aurox (not the Live CD) is available in Polish, Spanish, French, German (and more?, but no English release). 4 releases in a year, you can buy it where you buy your magazin. 7 cd's, and a magazin: how to install, first steps with linux etc. Costs: 10,50 Euro (12 US $ ??). Based on RedHat, Aurox comes with a lot of additional software: Nvidia driver, Java, DVD - Mplayer, xmms -MP3, a wide range of educational software, astronomy, maths, kids software. Improved internationalization. Apt and synaptic. Free download, but no fast download mirror, no contrib-packages, a very small community. It installs as smooth as RedHat. The big problem: not 100% compatible with RedHat. You have to try which Fedora or freshrpms will work - or compile your favourite progs on your own, if they are not part of Aurox. Compared to Mandrake 9.1 with all urpmi sources, the community etc.: Mandrake is way better. My very personal impression - and I don't run a server which might be a point for Aurox, I don't know.

    9.? Sparc

    http://mistral.ext.rz.tu-bs.de/ftp/pub/mir...rake-iso/sparc/ 16-juni-2000 - :-äöü Cybr - what is sparc?
  16. I've mplayer and mplayer-gui on CD 3. (MDK 9.1, download edition) Aren't there editions with 2 CD's only? Just an idea.
  17. I installed today texstar's Gnome 2.4 using 'gnome-2.4.0-1tex - (MCC, software installation). All needed packages got installed. The only missing thing was the clock-applet in the panel. I manually had to install the libpanel-applet rpm (texstar), rearrange the desktop icons and the panel, save the settings when logging out. Everything is fine and fast incl. my own compiled GIMP 1.3.20.
  18. And when you are at the Opera site and at home - don't forget to download some WONDERFUL skins. They are lovely! When you click on download they will install straight away into /home/%user/.opera/skins, each skin is one file. And the new Beta Releases of Opera are providing a nice surprise. No more image ads, but pure text based ads in a smaller window related to your interests. I'm getting 90% text links to Linux - they look the same as with Google.
  19. hi chris, (someone please correct me if I'm wrong ...) what you encounter is how different browsers are handling and interpreting html and css code, in your examples I think it's about fixed tabels, borders and something like that. Mozilla and Opera are displaying 'exactly' all the mess the web designer/webmaster has done when writing the page for IE only - IE and Konqui are more 'tolerant' (don't know how to word it) about the W3 standard. In Opera the only thing I know is, for these sites: View - Zoom - 120%, or faster: look at the zoom button on the right :P Don't know in Mozilla. The good thing about this is: you see the quality of the web designer!
  20. Just saw that Texstar has built Gnome Desktop 2.4 for Mandrake 9.1 - rpm's are available at ibiblio.org. More information at: http://www.pclinuxonline.com 8) What a guy!
  21. chris, when choosing the sort action Opera should do with this file/mime-type, choose: - open with other application, then choose-button (not the ' use plugin'). Opera will open QuickTime player as standalone then - but is Mystified's way not simpler?
  22. Hi Chris, I guess you have to edit the mime-types: File - Preferences - File Types, then uncheck: Hide file types opened ..., then: add the Quicktime's. And how Opera should handle them. That's the way how it works with RealPlayer-Plugins. [edit: Mysti was faster - and with a better solution! Didn't know that.]

  24. It's fun for me too, kmack, to watch you all, with the new amazing toy bittorent :D - hoping that you'll post a screenshot after you are done - ääh, in about 3200 hours? --anna, just installing Aurox Linux 9.1, you never know which funny decision the Mandrake management will do the next weeks and months
