  1. Don't listen to tyme, iphitus. You can't be too young - or too old - to get married. --anna back on the board, because tyme is also back
  2. Good review, artee. You could add: My damn digital camera Jenoptik JD 2100 z3s works now, out of the box. And I suspect that some more of these 'unusual usb devices/mass storage' are added too.
  3. @Icobgr: I have no experience with an installed nvidia driver. I'd suggest: just build the iso, and see if it works. PCLinux OS has ati and nvidia drivers - it works for some people, for some it didn't. Your cd will start, running a hwdetect-script, and will set up automatically the detected hardware. Without the nvidia driver it will choose generic drivers which come with a standard MDK installation. Good luck! --anna (a hardware noob)

    MDK-10-RC-1

Please, can anyone do this for me??????? Please ...

    Help!

Your software is not gone, just your menus are a mess, it's a well known bug. - ALT + F2, type: konsole - type: update-menus -v - when it's done, hit enter - you might want to logout and login again to your DE - this will happen again when installing/uninstalling applications. Install the official updates. They 'should' solve this problem.
  6. Sigh, Steve. I wonder if you ever thought of getting real hardware?

    MDK-10-RC-1

Can someone do me a favour, please? If you have installed rc 1 (with the reverted xfree 4.3), can you add kaffeine 0.4.1-3.mkd (on the contrib cooker mirror, and it needs xine from the cd, and kde, it's a kde media-player) to your install, start it, and close it. Does it crash, short after closing it? There was/is (?) a kaffeine-problem in MDK 10/cooker that could not get solved yet, probably with xfree 4.4. - Can you post the result here so that I can email the developper. At the moment I am doing tests for the Beta Cooker - but still no sucess. Thank you!
  8. K --> Configure your desktop --> Look & Feel --> Aussehen Standardschrift, Schriftgröße German version,
  9. Hit enter, to get the prompt back. I don't know about fluxbox. For KDE there is a third option which solves this problem, but I guess you want to use fluxbox as DE, so it's useless for you. Have you tried the menudrake option?
  10. Can't get the line to display properly here, try the attachment, and copy and paste from there: urpmicontrib.txt
  11. Now that you have your penguins back - all will be fine, kilimanjaro :-) 1. the infamous menu-problem. - first option: open a console, type: update-menus -v - second option: open a console, type: menudrake Click on the button: menustyle, choose the second option: the Mandrake Menu, everything and more (or similiar), click on the SAVE button (don't forget it). You may want to logot and login again. 2. the even more infamous contrib mirror problem first option: open a console, su to root, type/copy and paste the following (it has to be in ONE line) urpmi.addmedia mycontrib ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Man....2/contrib/i586 with hdlist.cz (edit, does not work here on the board, it gets cut off, where do I disable the url-thingie???) second option: Configure your computer --> software management --> software sources (or similiar), add new, choose ftp, name it as you want, fill in as adress: ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Man....2/contrib/i586 (does not work ...) path to hdlist: hdlist.cz (only THIS, not something like ../../balalal/something, JUST: hdlist.cz As for the rest: I never installed any 'updates' on my mandrake 9.2 ... if your not running a server with security issues ... ?
  12. Glenn, i have not tried it with a fully cooker version incl. kernel 2.6. KDE 3.2 and koffice and apps should not be a problem. And you could try diff. kernels ,in cooker contrib, the ones that end with .tmb. Give it a try, I'd say - and report back. There are still some minor and also major (Kaffeine crashes, which is my main application on the livecd) bugs, though. Good luck!
  13. What do you use at the moment? Write a bit more about your system. Which mklivecd script? Which kernel? Which DE? How are you building your cd? Have you tested it on diff. hardware? What is the startup time? Do you use the installer?
  14. Sans=Bitstream Vera Sans (in Mandrake) Just copy all *.ttf files from here: /usr/share/fonts/ttf/vera to your win fonts dir.
  15. @frosterrj and inkubus: You could try to follow this order: (but you will loose your complete kde 3.1.3/4 first): 0. set up your urpmi sources 1. logout from your de,or alt-ctrl-F1 and init 3 2. Uninstall the old qt3 and libqt3 (now you will loose everything that depends on it ;-) Install: 3. urpmi libqt3 (the NEW one) 4. urpmi qt3 (the NEW one) 5.arts, libarts 6.kdelibs-common, libkdecore, mandrake-mime 7. libkdebase ... 8. kdebase, and all kdebase progs, kdebase-kmenuedit etc 9. kde-i18.. (your locale) 10. galaxy-kde, mdkkdm, and all additional packages kde-multimedia, network, graphics etc. Restart x or your computer ;-) and pray. And take a look, which kde applications you have to re-install: k3b, Koffice ... and if they will work. Info: I did not install the packages mentioned above, but different KDE 3.2 rpm's of a German guy. They won't help you because they are only available for the German locale. Good luck. Note: on the first run I had the following bugs: kcontrol didn't work, menus are disappearing, could solve that, had to get a new k3b version. Still no KOffice ;-) Had to re-compile kaffeine, works now. KDE 3.2, as artee said, is big step forward. Very responsive.
  16. Just found a quick solution for the look of some bad written websites when I open them in Konqueror. Explanations: some webdesigner are using a stupid order of fonts to display: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif Browsers like Opera and Konqueror are very clear about that: if there is 1. no Verdana (MS) or 2.no Arial (MS), look for 3.: Helvetica - and bingo! It's there in a standard MDK installation. For my taste Helvetica looks like crap. I want: Sans, or Luxi Sans or Vera sans. And I don't want to install ms fonts, because I am too lazy. Solution: disable Helvetica in Mandrake. I only know the KDE 3.2 way at the moment, KDE control centre, system, fonts install (or however this is worded in your locale), dir: 75dpi, highlight all 104 Helvetica fonts, right click: disable. There they go. For Opera you can just insert a small line in the opera.ini and disable core x fonts.
  17. thanks, gerard. yes, Amsterdam here. - My question was, which of the many 5.7 cvs versions, lol, because I am having trouble since 27.1.2004 getting it to work. Jaco is adding almost every day new features - with new dependencies, that I can't solve. Can you remember the date of the hwdetect script you used? - one more question, i would like to add the usb function but can't test it. Don't own such a toy. Can I just build the image without a usb key attached/inserted? And the created cd later can detect it and save the configuration? Good luck with your 'server edition' - can't help here
  18. Gerard, a bit OT ... How did you build your livecd to get the usb key support working? Which option do I have to append? Which cvs version of mklivecd?
  19. Now I understand. ghostscript has a dependency with kdegraphics and koffice, so it was impossible to remove it using urpmi or MCC. What I did: # rpm -e --nodeps ghostscript-7.07-0.12mdk
  20. Thanks for the interesting link. What I've found there: Wow, 400 ? for some customized sounds. - I changed my sounds within 5 minutes. I wonder why I don't start to make money
  21. Why not building this CD, kde-head? - Install all needed freevo stuff - install mklivecd - # mklivecd myfreevo.iso - have fun :D I am not interested in TV stuff. My LiveCd plays all vcd's, svcd's, cd's, dvd's, mpg's, avi etc - and ogg, mp3 ... Second focus is the internet.
  22. Ohh - well, hmmm. The square format of the first is better to use. Will call the second a 'banner' then. I need to to think about it. Thanks, bvc
  23. Hi Glenn, congrats to you too! Glad to find your posting here. :) Your questions: - KDE 3.1.5: you 'll find a complete collection of all rpm's here: http://www.online-chars.de/ They are built using the spec's of MDK 9.2, sources are available too, I've tested them, they are stable. The site is in German, let Google translate it. You can setup a urpmi source or download them manually (in this case, rpm -Uvh ...). Because KDE is the only DE on my system I installed it in telinit 3. - Not sure about a en-locale, though. - what do you mean with: ghost scripting ? Can you tell a bit more, I am curious. Which version of mklivecd do you use? And what about the livecd-install? Currently my uncompressed system is 705 MB, compressed 250 MB. A list of the installed rpm's: packetlist.txt
  24.  Just checked if I have set my timezone correct, I guess, yes. Indeed funny, huh? Thanks for your feedback, spinynorman !
