well it can only be good news i think... good on you mandrake :-)
-
yeah, have a webpage on a central server which remote users login to through a mechanism like this board (perhaps more securely).
They edit a form which edits an sql database...
I have this O'Reilley book "web database applications," i'd recommend it :-)
edit, theres probably good documentation on the web... but if work are paying...
-
try changing your agp aperture size to 128M in your bios
beware: might break stuff.
thats just from a first look, i'll give it a better look later, its a *big* file you attached ;-)
-
hmmm, try posting as an attachment your dmesg and xf86config-4 files
-
is there actually anything wrong with it? your glx looks good, were you doing the gears test fullscreen or not?
edit: the acid test for if it is working is to download and play ut2004 ;-)
-
probably not... i think that the AIW capabilities don't work in linux. Search for a program or package called gatos on google, i think thats your best hope.
-
i think whats happening is:
make.sh tries to make the fglrx module for the particular version of the linux kernel you are running. To do this it needs to see the source code of your kernel. Mandrake made a catastropic oversight of not including this in the 9.2 distribution...
if you search the forums you should be able to find out how to install your kernel source. its something like urpmi kernel-source.
i hope you have broadband...

Hey,
here is my glxinfo, lsmod and glxgears
I have a Radeon 9700, so our results should be pretty similar.

As you can see, i have the module "fglrx" loaded. fire gl something or other.
This is the ati driver.
You can see if you can get it to work by doing
$modprobe fglrx
as root
then logging out and logging back in again. I think that restarts X, if it doesn't you might have to do it manually.
Unfortunately there might be another problem. scanning down our glxinfo, they're not the same in many places. The opengl vendor and extentions are different. That might mean games aren't going to work too well...
we can try and sort that out later though, first try and get direct rendering to work at all... do the modprobe fglrx and log out/login
-fissy
ps good luck!
-
direct rendering: No
not yet sadly Sue, with your card you should get thousands of fps doing glxgears, the direct rendering: NO tells you that there is no hardware acceleration.
when you're in the GUI, open a terminal, su to root and try this "lsmod"
-
fglrxconfig isn't a package in its own right, its part of the ati driver rpm afaik.
I direct you here: http://www.MandrakeUsers.org/index.php?sho...indpost&p=96856
you force the ati driver rpm to install, and it replaces the libgl with its own, which is what you want.
**Warning** back up your stuff in case it breaks X completely
now that you have ati stuff installed, you should be able to search for fglrxconfig (updatedb again)
also, make sure you have your kernel source installed.
-
probably didn't make the script executable
(just a guess)
-
did the sound work again after a reboot? ie does xmms kill it until the next time you start up your computer?
if you think something is hogging your soundcard you can do this:
fuser /dev/sound/mixer
if it gives you a process using it, kill it and try again
-
damn why didn't i think of that
the conflicting libgl is always the problem in mandy...
-
don't try them!
not yet anyway, try and get a basic gui working first, then have a go at making evil ati video accleration work.
-
you don't have to offer software for download to comply with the gpl, you just have to offer the sources should you provide it. I don't think you can download RedHats server products for example.
-fissy
-
whats your setup in windows xp?
you could just find the ip address/gateway/dns info there and put it into linux as statically set information, ie, ignore the dhcp server.
hope i'm not teaching you to suck eggs
-fissy
-
problem is that evil ati card... i bet $100 on that
*checks to see if board has address*
if you can paste your xf86config-4 here, please do so, and we'll see if it can be changed...
also, try running /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config as root, and making yourself a new config file.
Choose the most basic options you can, use the vga driver, don't try radeon. Choosing the monitor sync rates is tricky... use the web or your instructions.
sorry if i'm repeating/conflicting with old advice, i didn't see the other thread.
-
fissy@darwin fissy $ which fglrxconfig
/opt/ati/bin/fglrxconfig
you might need to try searching for it:
updatedb (as root)
locate fglrxconfig
it ought to be there, its a standard part of the ati drivers, i doubt mandrake would remove it, its useful (i could be wrong)
i'm looking into the opengl-update thing
-
disclaimer: i have set mine up, but in gentoo
you don't need to uninstall mesa afaik, i just do this "opengl-update ati"
and that means the system uses ATI's opengl
as for disabling DRI in the config file, the best thing to do is just run ATI's XF86config-4 file maker "fglrxconfig." You might have to search your system for that utility.
-
i've managed to do it, but only in gentoo sadly :-(
i gave up in mandrake because of other problems
-
damn, perhaps if you're getting stuck on a particular point you could ask here?
theres a chance someone will know, you're probably not the only mac user on the boards :)
-
silly question, can you not do a text install?
-
the reason is, there is no opensource driver to use xfree86-dri with (for your card). You HAVE to use the ati driver's dri implementation.
did you try and delete libGl to install that driver?
-
the driver for nforce mobos in 2.6 is actually in the kernel, you don't need to use nvidia's driver, thats the point ;-)
you might need to re-configure/recompile/reinstall your kernel though.
I didn't realise that some people had problems with this driver though, i installed 2.6 and it worked fine. (my mobo is a shuttle mini pc sng41, or something that looks similar ;-) )
