  1. Hi there. Sorry for this basic question but I forgot how to configure X server from console. I change my monitor and of course my Xserver does't recognize my new monitor. The resolution is out of range. I went to console and tried

    #/etc/X11/XF86Config
    Permision denied

How can I set up the resolution?

BTW my monitor is ACER AL1716 and on the User Manual is said that can support 1280x1024, but my X server doesn't support this resolution. Maybe I need some new drivers for this resolution?

    Thanks

  2. Hello to everyone!

I hope it's the right place for this question.

I tried to install Joomla on my web server :wall: . First I installed locally. For installing Joomla apache, php, mysql is needed. I installed all. After that joomla papackage must be ununpacked in the /var/www/http folder. Than an web installer tooks everything. When I installed locally I could open the web installer with a web browser (Mozilla), but when I tried to install on a remote server an error:

    Access forbidden!

You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server.

    Error 403

    Apache/2.2.6 (Mandriva Linux/PREFORK-8.1mdv2008.0)

I don't know how to overcame this. To be more specific. Why locally I can open with Mozilla /var/www/http/joomla/index.php and from another computer I get the error message?

    Thanks

    .adobe (rename to .adobe.old)

I replaced but still not working. Same error

    and

    rpm -Va

It gives me a biig output. I don't understand very well. I attached the output. Is says that Mozilla is missing but in fact I installed the new version 2.0, and the same with Java. In rest I don't understand

  11. Where did you get the rpm package from? Is it the rpm from the Adobe website?

yes I downloaded from Adobe web site.

simply delete the directory where it was installed.
Thank you! I deleted the directory where was installed. But anyway I'm still curious why it doesn't work on my computer. It works in the past and suddenly it stop working.

I downloaded again the .rpm from Adobe web site, I installed again and same error

    acroread
    expr: syntax error

Few days ago a had a serious crash on my computer. I inserted an PCMCIA card and suddenly everything frozen. Keyboard, mouse, everything. I had no choices and I reset my computer. After that, the FSCK start and fix some inodes problems and after that some programs doesn't start (Amarok for example). I reinstalled and it works, but with Adobe Acrobat it doesn't work. Could be from that crash? I'm sorry if is a stupid question.

  12. I did:

    whereis acroread
    acroread: /usr/bin/acroread

    rpm -qf /usr/bin/acroread
file /usr/bin/acroread is not owned by any package

I don't know how to remove it.

    Also I tried

    urpmi acroread
    no package named acroread

  13. I have problems with Adobe Acrobat Reader. It works until some days ago. I update my system and after that (or I don't know why) suddenly doesn't start. I reinstall the rpm package but still not work. On command line:

     $ acroread
    expr: syntax error
    expr: syntax error
    expr: syntax error
    expr: syntax error
    expr: syntax error
    expr: syntax error
    expr: syntax error

I installed again from sources but still same message. Now I don't know how to uninstall Can anyone give me some advices?

    Thanks.

  14. Uncomment DefaultRoot ~

    That should do it.

ok, thanks, but now all users are looked in their own home directory, but I want one of them to don't be looked and can see the root directory. It is possible?

    Here is my /etc/proftpd.conf

    ServerName "ProFTPD"
    ServerType standalone
    DefaultServer on
    DefaultRoot ~
    Port 21
    Umask 022
    MaxInstances 30
    User nobody
    Group nogroup
    SystemLog /var/log/proftpd.log
    TransferLog /var/log/xferlog
    <Directory /*>
     AllowOverwrite on

  15. Hello. Sorry if this is a basic question. I installed on my computer proftpd. I create 2 users: user01 and user02. When I connect to my server through ftp command, both user can see all my computer. I want just one of them to can see all my files (for ex. user01) and the other I don't want to see the root directory (I want that user02 can see just the files from his /home/user02 directory). Can you help me? Thanks.

  16. Which application are you using?

Did you try kmix or aumix to increase the sound level

I use Amarok. Thanks I found. In KMix I increase PCM level and now it's fine. BTW I don't know what is PSM :)

  17. Hi there. It seems strange to me but when I'm in Linux the volume on my computer is lower than when I'm in Win. I tried from “Volume Control” “Volume Monitor” but still same. My sound card is Intel Corp.|ICH4 845G/GL Chipset AC'97 Audio Controller and I use the ALSA "snd-intel8x0" driver. Can anyone explain my why? Thanx

  18. When I try to start the Phosphor Screen saver the following text appear on the screen:

    Unrecognized character \xEF at /usr/bin/xscreensaver-text line 60 (#1)
    (F) The Perl parser has no idea what to do with the specified character in your Perl script (or eval). Perhaps you tried to run a compressed script, a binary program or a directory as a Perl program.
    Uncaught exception from user code:
    Unrecognized character \xEF at /usr/bin/xscreensaver-text line 60.
    at \xEF at /usr/bin/xscreensaver-text line 60

but if I run from a console:

    /usr/lib/xscreensaver/phosphor -program 'cat text.txt'

everything works fine. I mean on the screen appear the text from the file text.txt

    Any idea what to do?

  19. I discovered another small problem on my Mandriva. I tried to use the Phosphor screen saver and an error message appear. I saw the same error message at the FlipText screen saver. Also in the previous version of the Phosphor screen saver it was possible to configure from Options button a program to be run. Now there are less options. Have anyone else has the same problem, or just me? Thanks
