  1. Thank you, problem solved! It was my logitech dual action gamepad, when i disconnected it,the error were gone. And,by the way, that 'upgrade' was careless use of words from me,i always clean install, when i "Upgrade". It tooks a week to fine tune, but i can do it faster every time.... :D
  2. Hi! Couple of days ago,i upgraded my mandriva 2006 to 2007,and everything went rather smoothly, but there is this one problem that still remains: -at boot, right after 'setting hostname localhost [ OK ]' my computer freezes, sometimes.i would say 1 out of 7 boots will do this.when it is not hanging up,it will give this message, right after that abovementioned 'OK': 'udevd-event [1195]: wait_for_sysfs: waiting for: '/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.3/usb4/4-1/4-1:1.0/bus/ failed' it is the same message every time, only that udevd number changes. It did this right after installation, when i booted for the first time.I had installed all updates available,no change. Nothing correspondending to this is not seen anywhere in logs, not even this message.I had to scroll-lock while booting to write it up. My hardware is not changed since the mandriva 2006. Well, any ideas are welcome. Thank you
  3. Well,well,......This is such a shame :woops: :woops: Problem was solved by this: Never have 7 - 10 windows open same time, and making configurations.... I really thought, that i tried that thing already......well,anyway it's ok now.
  4. I just installed a firestarter firewall from mandriva rpm's,and i just liked it.now,i have encountered a problem, when i tried to make it autostart when logged in.i followed the instructions on their website: I did that exactly, now i'm getting error message: [user@user Autostart]$ ./firestarter Sorry, user user is not allowed to execute '/usr/sbin/firestarter --start-hidden' as root on user (replaced my username with "user",and "localhost" as well, since there reads my username instead of "localhost",i have configured network that way.) I did that terminal session in root, and usermode, just to see if that would have different outcome.it did not. Thank you.. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  5. When i am starting Gnome desktop,or some of the applications from KDE,it takes about 30 seconds before anything happens. This does not apply to all apps,(when started from KDE),but some of them. When i start, for example, gnome system monitor,it will give this error message: ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Modem.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/battstat.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Font-Capplet.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Connection-Ethernet.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/MySQL.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Bird.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Envelope.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Dialog-Warning5.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/SMB-Server-alt.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/metacity-properties.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Reading.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Disks.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Tail.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/WPicon2.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Find-Files2.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Control-Center2.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/gksu-icon.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/gnome-run.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Button-Apps.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Networking.png': No such file or directory ** (gnome-system-monitor:6208): WARNING **: Unable load icon Failed to open file '/usr/share/pixmaps/other/Proxy-Config.png': No such file or directory After that 30 seconds,it will start normally, and so will Gnome desktop. i think i had this after i updated from official update repository.Well, not so serious, but perhaps there is some error in some config file, that i can edit? Thanks.
  6. Well,i have two questions concerning this subject.First, how long, after the release of mandriva 2007,there will be a support for previous version, like security patches etc... and secondly, how long i can expect to be able to use mandriva 2006,i mean, generally speaking,if i download softwares as source, and compile them, before their "requirements" would need newer kernel than i have,etc.. I have used mandriva 2006 about a year now,and i'm very happy with it,now, since i have learned tons of tips and tricks about how to do things, and how to fine-tune it,and so on.
  7. I'm getting this error message, when shorewall is shutting down: Stopping shorewall: ipt_owner: pid, sid and command matching is broken on SMP. What does it mean? and can i get rid of it,by simply fine tuning something?or upgrading some package? It seems working properly, thought. I'm using mandriva 2006.0.
  8. Is there option in urpmi,if i do it in CLI,like --nodeps in rpm? That i can install RPM without deps,if i so choose?
  9. But when i compiled that from source,i still had'nt them, and it worked fine. That scilab was scientific program, used probably only in some nuclear physics lab,it CAN'T require a podracer. As it wasn't. Is it dangerous/not recommended, concerning this issue,to have cooker repositories in drakconf, just for a case i need some more recent version from some software?i dont use them regularly, only when i need something from there.I use mandriva 2006.0
  10. I would like to ask about package dependencies, since i think i'm having some problems. When i try to install some programs,i'm getting message "sorry, this can't be selected",that,of course,is not problems yet,but i take example: Some time ago i tried to install "Scilab",just to see what it was,and there was a message concerning additional packages needed. There was about 35 packages, including: -Mozilla firefox,timidity++,podracer,etc...a packages definitely not needed by that program. What could "mess up" things like that?
  11. It's such a mess...with menudrake, you just don't know what it is going to do.There is entries in menudrake, that don't show, and some entries in menus, that are not in menudrake... Is there some "Extension" for KDE to do this with one click? B)
  12. How can i make the kde menus to be sorted alphabetically? Some of them seem to be that way,and some not.Is there some "option"somewhere? Thanks.
  13. Yes,i tried that,it would not move the image position, but zooming it.If i,for example, zoom it so that whole image is seen, there would be black bars around it,and wider bar in the right, than in the left.and that is the problem. If i could center it somehow, then i would zoom it to cover the full screen. How it is done in hardware level anyway? I mean, since those M$Win drivers are having this option,it can be done? I remember in those ancient days,(-99) when i first tried linux, and have this problem with my main monitor, because it was a cheap svga without much of options, there was program called "xvidtune",and it did this by modifying vertical and horizontal refresh rates...
  14. I have now succesfully configured my GeForce FX5200 tv-out to work, and i noticed, that image position in TV would need a slight adjusting, like moving it 2 inches to the right. I am convinced, that it CAN be done, but i would need a right direction pointed,on how to proceed. I use "nvidia-setting",and "Yanc" to configure Xorg.conf file. I had some googling on the subject, and checked nvforum, and this forum too,but i did not found anything applicable.(For linux). I checked nvidia´s xorg README,but i did not find any "switch" or "option" for that. Can i use something like setting a exact refresh rate for tv-out,instead of "range"? -that would affect on image position... I have mandriva2006,nvidia driver is 7676.
  15. Oh..it uses different kernel in failsafe mode...? that explains a lot. Yes,thanks for advice, that "mandriva init 3" works just fine,Problem solved now
  16. I am having this problem: when i boot my mandriva in to failsafe mode, and change the runlevel from INIT 1 to INIT 3,i cant login, because as soon as i start to type, there will be all sorts of gibberish in the screen, like ^^[[]7^&& etc.And no capslock is on. This does not occur in INIT 1,i can log on normally. I need INIT 3,because of massive updates on KDE,and to do those updates i need fully networked system, and everything working, except no GUI. I can vaguely remember, that this occured even after "out-of-the-box" install of mandriva 2006,because back then,i configured my graphics card, and few times xorg crashed, back to INIT 3,and i couldnt log in,because of the abovementioned problem. Thanks
  17. Recently i changed my graphics card from ATI to Nvidia, and problems were finally solved. Now i would ask a bit of helping hand in configuring the tv-out.I would like to use it in "clone"mode,i.e watching videos from kplayer in tv,etc. I know that it has to be done in "xorg.conf",and i have read "readme"file for nvidia. Now,that example file that they provided,i didnt be able get it to work. I would ask, if someone who has nvidia GF5200,mandriva 2006,and tv-out working, would post me their xorg.conf file,so that i may get the right direction pointed? Thank you.
  18. Now,i was able to get that standard driver back,it is running something like 1200.000 fps, which i think,is just fine.openGL apps are working now. I have understood, that there is these problems with all other distros too,so i will wait until ATI is going to release some decent drivers. TheCrizu __________________ Reality is for those who cannot face the science fiction.
  19. that application is Celestia astronomical software. And,as i in my first post mentioned, those other problems are still there,no matter what i do.I hope there is some Guru out there who can say something about that ATI install log.Or tell me how can i get back where i started, without installing system again.Using that original,"working" xorg.conf, openGL is not what it was, before i tried to upgrade drivers.
  20. I have made few extra checks after reading everything they had about this driver in ATI´s site. Drivers install log looks like this: [Message] Kernel Module : Trying to install a precompiled kernel module. [Message] Kernel Module : Precompiled kernel module version mismatched. 21. Yes,I now managed to do it.installed latest kernel, and exactly the same source, everything working fine, installed ATI again, not working, same thing that was int the first time. I´ve checked couple of HOWTO´s in linuxquestion forum, that addressed this issue(mandriva+ATI).everything is done accordingly.I´m now again using that original "Xorg.conf". When i launch "fglrxinfo" now, using old conf file, its like this: display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.2.1) However, when i use that new, barely working conf file, everything looks ok,there is "ATI" on those lines, when running "fglrxinfo". When launching "glxgears", with old file,FPS: 320.000 , and with new file 2300.000. It should be greater? And with new file, openGL applications crashes. Getting back to read HOWTO´s..... TheCrizu
  22. yes,i´m going to try that. How do i check which kernel version i´m having now? I can´t see it on RPM manager/installed sofware?
  23. I´m having problem with configuring ATI proprietary drivers.I downloaded and installed the latest drivers from their site, did everything by the book. When i restarded my computer screen looked like quite awful, gamma settings were...off the scale or something.screen was so bright, that hardly anything could be seen.I´ve tried 4 hours to configure that "xorg.conf"file with fglrxconfig, and manually,no matter what i did, problem remains.and almost every time, when i did some changes to that file,no matter what, system would not even start, but instead there were screen full of error messages.finally i put that old xorg.conf file back, and everything works, except openGL,it looks like my old C64 is trying to run it(Slow). It´s,i suppose, because there is that new driver now. So,do i have to configure xorg.conf manually completely? I´m running mandriva 2005LE.Computer: P4 GigaByte 8IPE100-ProG 512MB Radeon 9200. TheCrizu PS.I needed those proprietary drivers because of tv-out. PPS. I had done this whole thing before, six months ago, same mandriva, same harware,no problems, but that proprietary driver, this was newer version.I switched back to windoze, after that, but now i´m back to linux,to stay this time :D
  24. Yess!!! Problem solved! Now,you cant believe what it was!? I had installed package called "ipv6 support for iptables", removed it, and now it is working. Well it seems, that with linux it is as old saying goes: -If it works, dont fix it.
  25. How do i check dependencies?I have installed java from their website, that .bin package.perhaps i should check mdk.rpm packaged java?
