I heard of it for Slack, but never looked into it. Once I went out to the site I saw I could also use it for .deb & .rpm's too. Pretty cool.

I wasn't making any assumptions about you at all, actually. I was questioning whether the systems were doing something screwy - and asking why in the world anyone would need 18,000 fps. This is a very cool program. Have you ever install something from src (.tar.gz) decided you wanted to remove it and couldn't? Here comes checkinstall http://asic-linux.com.mx/~izto/checkinstall/ This is great, you simply run ./configure make checkinstall On my RH system I just did # /usr/local/sbin/checkinstall ( I hadn't put it in my path statement) It handles (make install) and the creates a .rpm (redhat) .tgz (slack) .deb (debian) so if you want to remove it later. all you have to do is # rpm -e <filenmae How cool is that? Here is the output of me running it on Sword. this is the end of it!! sword is installed. if this is your first time, you may need a basic global configuration file. one can be generated to /etc/sword.conf by typing: "make install_config" modules (Bibles, etc.), may then be unzipped to /usr/local/share/sword/ type "make register" to help us keep track of how many people are using sword. GForce 4 ti4200 128 MB I don't know why, like I said I only see it in Libranet and RH's latest kernel. Acutally I think I had slackware running some were close to that too.?? I have know Idea, I ran just plain glxgears in kde/gnome/ice with the same results.

I'm with Ixthusdan & bvc, RH9 does have a better look to it. I know what your saying but can't explain. I think I moved back to libranet 2.8 on my main system though. I would rate it second compared to your list. I've also found that my FPS in RH9 with the latest RH kernel and Libranet with 2.4.21 that I just finish compiling to be faster than the rest, even Gentoo. Why, I have know idea? I just know what I see.

I will have to try that when I get my RH system backup. export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=true I was playing with SuSE, and the latest RH9 Kernel started to give me some crazy fast FPS using glxgears, I'm talking FPS 18,000+ Everyone else from Gentoo, Slack, Lib, SuSE & the rest of the gang I would range from 2500-4500. I still can't believe it, but I've seen it with my own eyes! :D

I only played with it once, didn't get the graphics going and then I found this the other day. http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/ I've been trying to get my Nvidia graphis to take but haven't succeded yet. If you want to play with the 2.5, you will need the following from RawHide: modutils and mkinitrd RPMs. There was somthing else I needed, but can't remember what it was. Currently though I'm playing with SuSE8.2

I broke about 3 systems in one week not paying attention. That was about 6-8 months ago. So I would definatly recommend watching closely what you choose.

Yea, I didn't have a choice I burned up my old proc & the xp 2000 was the cheapest the store had that would go on my board.

Nope, I did it inside of Gnome. I just didn't have any lockups I guess. I don't use synaptic to much, it locks up frequently in my experience, so most of the time I just use the apt commands. One thing I noticed is I can't log into KDE. Do you have that option anymore in your GDM session?

I didn' t have to kill anything. I just added the nyquist to my source.list and did a apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade

I'm just getting tired of testing distro's all the time and not sticking with one. I use becuase job permits it. Over all, it is stable and nice. RPMs aint so good. I think I suffer from mulitple distro personality's MDP for short. Along with ADD and insomnia it's a crazy mix. I think they call it: addImdp, but I'm not sure?

while i admit it is an easy "distro" the developers are evil and those "reviews" are mostly from longtime, and therefore biased, users. i would suggest try the ancient but free 2.0 version before deciding to blow all that money for an installer and admin tool. Libranet 2.8 8) http://www.libranet.com/ http://forum.libranet.com/ Not to nerdy, but can be. Great package management with apt, done the debian way not apt4rpm. No rpms, can't drive you crazy. If you need rpms, you can convert them with Alien. Don't have to comile if you don't want to. Pretty easy install. auto install nvidia drivers if you have them. Also includes Realplayer, flash, mozplugger, java, true type fonts after install. kernel compiling is super easy if you don't want to go the normal route. Easily upgraded and updated. Down side, you have to pay up front for it. Up side if you don't like it in 30 day's you can get your money back. I would bet you wont give it up though. Thanks for the correction, but at least you can use apt-get and the Debian repo's.

From the sounds of it, there Click"N'run feature seems to have some old software, but you could alway's yous apt-get anyway. Why pay after a year with apt works fine.
