  1. Hello again. I just installed Mandriva 2006, but the problem is I can't get my internal NIC (Marvell 88E8053) or my wireless card (Intel 2915) to connect. I loaded the new firmware for the Intel wireless card and modprobed (which ran fine), but I can't really get the device to connect. Looking at dmesg, I see something about an RF kill switch and how it needs to be set to "off." The problem with that is that it's a hardware switch, and so it cuts off my wireless card completely. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks for being so supportive to newbs like myself!
  2. Hey AleXxiO, I don't know what version of Mandriva you're running, but I was able to get my card working in LE 2005. You can check it out here: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=28820. Please try searching the forum/Google for answers next time. Cheers, and good luck!
  3. Thanks for all your help - I'll try some Googling of my own. :D
  4. Thanks, pmpatrick. Do you really think 2006 will take care of this?
  5. I'm not quite sure. If it helps, in Suse 9.3, the hard drive is sda1 and the CD/DVD drive is sr0. How can I tell for sure? Thanks for any help - I really need my DVD to work in Mandriva!
  6. [dhezir@dhezir ~]$ ls -l /dev/dvd lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Oct 18 01:13 /dev/dvd -> hdc So, what does this mean, exactly? I'm sorry, I'm pretty new with Linux...
  7. Hey guys, I'm pretty stumped on this. I have a stock Mandriva LE 2005 installation, and I'm trying to play a DVD in Kaffeine. The problem is, it's really choppy. When I try to enable DMA on the drive, I get the following error: [root@dhezir dhezir]# hdparm -d1 /dev/dvd /dev/dvd: setting using_dma to 1 (on) HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted using_dma = 0 (off) It's a SATA drive, so that's probably what's causing this. Could I get some help with this? Thanks!
  8. Thanks scarecrow, and to all who looked, but I fixed the problem. I'm actually using it now! :D Here's how to fix it, if you are running into problems with it: Untar ipw2200-fw-2.2.tgz and place all of the files in /lib/hotplug/firmware/ Run modprobe ipw2200 Restart (at least I had to, you might not) Under MCC, head to Hardware, click on the 2915 adapter, and set it up as a wireless connection. Good as gold! I think my problem was that I had both my ethernet and my wireless card starting at boot. PM me with any issues! Cheers! B)
  9. Greetings, all! I'm new here, and seeking help with my wireless card (Intel Wireless 2915 adapter) on my notebook. As you can tell, I am a newb, so please go slow. :D Well, let me jump into it. I installed Mandriva LE 2005, downloaded and untared the firmware for the card and put it into /lib/hotplug/firmware/ Then, I ran modprobe ipw2200 and it returned the next line. After that, I ran iwconfig and it came up with the following: [root@dhezir dhezir]# iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. eth1 no wireless extensions. eth2 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"CaseGuest" Nickname:"dhezir" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462 GHz Access Point: 00:0F:34:64:EA:E0 Bit Rate=54 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Encryption key:off Power Management:off Link Quality=71/100 Signal level=-58 dBm Noise level=-85 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:19 Missed beacon:1 sit0 no wireless extensions. So, it saw my access point. I ran ifconfig eth2 up which just jumped to the next line. However, I still can't connect to the Internet! I have pinged and pinged Google, but still no luck! Is there something I forgot? Please help. Thank you!
  10. Hey guys. I'm in need of some help. I'm running Mandriva LE 2005 (and loving it), but I can't seem to use my Intel PRO/Wireless Card that came with my laptop. Everytime I go to the Control Center and try to configure it by clicking on the config tool and selecitng wireless, I either get to choose between manually loading a driver or using ndiswrapper. Could someone provide me with some help and further reading, as I found Intel's site to be pretty vague about things. Thanks for any and all help!
  11. Well guys, I feel like the worst newb ever. I got Mandriva LE to work. If anyone has this problem, select "Yes" and choose the ata_pixx drivers. Worked like a charm - recognized my NTFS part. and resized with no problem! Now, on to my wireless card... Cheers! :D
  12. Hey, I'm a newbie trying to install Mandriva LE 2005 (10.2) on a Toshiba Tecra A4. However, after a point in the installation, I receive the following message: Found " Intel Corp.|82801FBM (ICH6M) Sata Controller" interfaces. Do you have another one? If I answer "No," I get the following message: An error occured - no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem. If I answer "Yes," I get a long list of drivers to use. I referred online to a couple posts, including the MandrivaUsers post: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtop...mode=linearplus. However, "linux noapic," didn't work and FC4 just hangs. Please help! Thanks!
