  1. I am able to send mail using Outlook Express in Windows without a problem. I dont use my ISP as a send mail server. I use mail server from a web host Nonethelesshere's the mail error message: "The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server mail.somehosting.com failed. Ther server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your network administrator." I know I have tried to setup SMTP as instructed in FAQ from both web hosting and verified password serveral times. Still no luck
  2. I donwload thunderbird from Mozilla website and then extract as root to /usr/lib So the program path to thunderbird as follow: /usr/lib/thunder/thunderbird I have tried and setup using 2 different hosts (ipowerweb and site5) Both 2 hosts successfully retrieve mails without any problem. But the problem is that I can't seem to send mail using both hosts as SMTP out going mail server. I have also tried to use Evolution freshly installed by default in LE2005. This is no luck either. Able to retrieve mails but not sending mail Therefore, it's safe for me to say that it's not neither Thunderbird nor host server problem. Does anyone have any idea of what this is all about? How to check to fix the problem?
  3. Gnome is clean and simple. Period. If they can keep it this way and make it more reliable, I use it.
  4. That's what I installed and plus the libxmms packages from main. Has anyone have the same problem with that particular XMMS package under LE2005. I can go ahead and installed from source but want to confirm with anwyone having the same problem.
  5. Successfull install with some improve Frame rate to about 900 (not as someone claims to be above 1500) in 5s using glxgears but still a nasty trailing if moving a window accross screen. I guess I want 2D performance.Since it's a dual-head card, I am think that I use the other head instead of the high performance one. Here's the output: $ glxgears 4036 frames in 5.0 seconds = 807.200 FPS 4580 frames in 5.0 seconds = 916.000 FPS 4580 frames in 5.0 seconds = 916.000 FPS 4580 frames in 5.0 seconds = 916.000 FPS 4579 frames in 5.0 seconds = 915.800 FPS 4579 frames in 5.0 seconds = 915.800 FPS 4580 frames in 5.0 seconds = 916.000 FPS 4579 frames in 5.0 seconds = 915.800 FPS glxinfo | grep direct direct rendering: Yes glxinfo | grep OpenGL OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9800 Pro Generic OpenGL version string: 1.3.5140 (X4.3.0-8.14.13) OpenGL extensions: It looks about right? But 2D performance is very bad.
  6. Off I go to test install ATI driver I download ati driver try to install Xorg-X11 using urpmi xorg-x11 but couln'd since it says the package has already been installed. (I am currently using LE2005) download kernel-source which is believe is v2.6.11 for LE2005 install and make directory link ln -s /usr/src/<kernel source folder> /usr/src/linux change to run level 3 install rpm ati package configure using fglrxconfig save the file <it reports PCI bus detect PCI:1:0:0 and put R350 [NH) in use> startx Everthing is like before, nothing seem change My question is: I have the AGP 9800 Pro AIW card, ATI only detects PCI bus and put driver for R350 (NH) to use. It doens't say ASP 9800 Pro any where. How do I set manually for it to regconize the main card. Has anyone known of success strory installing AIW 9800 card with LE2005
  7. I setup my machine using Easy URPMI tutorial for all the media. I download couple of XMMS packages and install onto the system. Everything went fine. But when I try to start the program, it doesn't seem to start immediately at all. I see a XMMS bar on the panel but not the program on the desktop. So I wait. I look at Workspace switcher and I notice there's a tiny thing on top left conner which turns out to be my XMMS program sitting so tiny there. I use "Move" command by right clicking on XMMS bar on the panel to move it into the middle of desktop workspace. But still no luck, it doesn't show up and seems like to be a 1x1 pixel. I click around for install Nautilus, Gnome terminal and all of sudden the XMMS program pops up. It plays just fine after all. The problem happens again as soon as I close XMMS and trying to restart it. Is this a bug? Should I try to compile from source? Another side question: LE2005 doesn't seem to include XMMS at all, does it? I find the one that comes with 10.1 is very nice and stable as it seems.
  8. I have the said card which during installation didn't get 3D enabled. I have noticed that most screensavers are definitely faster(not those ones that use 3D engines and OpenGL) as opposed to 3D accereration selected during installation. My question is how do I re-enable or disable again in the future 3D acceleration? I don't see any options to do it in system configuration tool. Another question is: Should I download and install the driver on ATI website? I currently use LE2005 on i686 machine. No matter what I select, whether it's a 2D or 3D accelleration, I get a nasty windown trailing (like mouse trailing in MS Windows) if having couple of web browser windows up and moving a window accross the screen/desktop I don't know if this is a major common issue with ATI card. If it is, ATI card is not linux friendly after all.
