  1. Thanks adamw, I'll definitely try that tonight, I think a cleanup of rpmnew and rpmsave is well overdue on my system (it might not help solving my problem right away, though, as there seems to be a problem with the latest dbus-python package: hal-device-manager crashes when importing dbus.py...) Say, are you the same adamw that posts on OSNews? I'm known as "A nun, he moos" over there...
  2. I'm on a cookerized 10.1 and for the life of me I can't get dbus, hal and gnome-volume-manager to work together. Inserted CDs don't appear on my desktop, and calling hal-device-manager shows devices, but my IDE devices are not identified (Unknown devices)... :-/ I've been trying to figure this out for a couple of days...any pointers would be very much appreciated! Otherwise I'll wait for 10.2. I figure my problem is that I've always been upgrading my box through rpmdrake ever since 9.2, instead of doing a clean reinstall. I probably have customized configuration files that prevent hal or dbus or gnome-manager from working properly...
  3. Hmm...it works fine for me (I find it more stable than mplayer, gmplayer or mplayer-plugin, actually - I nearly always have to kill -9 those). I'm not sure about the resize thing, though (I'm at work, so I can't check). I guess it depends on your config, as usual...
  4. Try downloading KMplayer from contrib and set the buffer size to at least 2048, it should work with Konqueror + mplayer-plugin (there's a KMplayer viewer which you can set Konqueror to use in File Associations).
  5. I solved that problem by installing KMplayer (NOT to be confused with Kplayer), which has a Konqueror viewer that works really well and better controls than with mplayer-plugin alone. It's also a standalone player (actually, just a front-end for mplayer) that integrates well with KDE and lets you tweak some settings from the GUI - including the buffer size (which I did have to increase significantly before I could view Quicktime streams). The package is available in Contrib. Note that I'm using it with version 0.40 of mplayer-plugin (and version 0.90 final of mplayer) so YMMV with other versions/combinations.
  6. To get rid of the timer, open the file /etc/mplayerplug-in.conf (or something like that) and change the osd-level setting to 0. I still can't have it reliably play in Konqueror, by the way, so I've reverted to Mozilla whenever I need to check out QTs on the web. Overall I find mplayer to be quite unstable (requiring me to killall -9 it often)...I prefer to use Xine, which is a lot more stable and can now read Sorenson Quicktimes as well (no plugin, though, AFAICT). Maybe when the next version of mplayer rolls in...
  7. Okay, it seems I was right: the version of glibc found in Mandrake 9.1 (glibc 2.3.1) has problems with Wine, which causes ravage's installer to fail (I think...) I tried installing NWN using the "official" method (fortunately I still have a Windows box on my LAN), following all the steps detailed on the Bioware website and - lo and behold! - everything works fine! I did have to manually update NWN with the critical rebuild patch, however... Finally...I can play NeverWinter Nights on my Linux box! Coooool!!!
  8. I think the problem (like just about every problem I have with my computer these days) might be related to glibc - I'm using Mandrake 9.1 (cooker), which uses a new version of glibc (2.3.1) which currently breaks wine. Since Ravage's installer uses wine, there's a good chance that this might be it. Actually, I just tried installing with the latest version of the installer, and I got this right after it asked me to put in Installation Disk 1: InstallShield 6.x Cabinet Util Version 0.2 -] fOSSiL & Morlac - 2000 [- chitin.key wine: lstat /tmp/selfgz6766/wine/wineserver-feanna.local.nut/socket : No such file or directory wine: lstat /tmp/selfgz6766/wine/wineserver-feanna.local.nut/socket : No such file or directory wine: lstat /tmp/selfgz6766/wine/wineserver-feanna.local.nut/socket : No such file or directory wine: lstat /tmp/selfgz6766/wine/wineserver-feanna.local.nut/socket : No such file or directory wine: lstat /tmp/selfgz6766/wine/wineserver-feanna.local.nut/socket : No such file or directory Installshield extraction failed! Did you export SETUP_CDROM before installing? Unable to find file 'data' Unable to find file 'dmvault' Unable to find file 'docs' Unable to find file 'localvault' Unable to find file 'modules' Unable to find file 'servervault' This looks pretty bad. I guess I'm going to have to reboot in Windows and do it the long and painful way...Damn!
  9. Yup, got nvidia drivers. I can run glxgears no problem. I'm not sure about the 24 bit display...do you mean setting the game to 24-bit, or the desktop? My desktop is already at 24bit, and I'm not sure how to change it for NWN...I can't access the Advanced Video Options, it crashes instantly. Hmm...would twinview be to blame?
  10. Installed the game with ravage's installer - that went over very well. Unfortunately, the program unexpectedly quits whenever I get start a new game a choose to create a new character or select a pregenerated one. No error messages, nothing. Anyone else got this problem? Or, better yet, found a way to solve it? Mandrake 9.1 (cooker) glibc 2.3.1 SDL 1.2.5 (built from the sources found on the Bioware site) DOlson (Grabthroat Shinkicker, I presume? :-), I tried the nwnlinux.md5 found on your site but it failed for several files. Did I miss a step? Basically what I did is run the 1.29 version of Ravage's installer as root (and entered my CD key), chown'ed and chmod'ed the files and ran the nwn executable...it works up the point specified above. Any ideas what I might have done wrong?
