  2. Ghil,

Do you mean turnig sound off in the game options or in Linux options?

    Dakota...

A Black and Gray 17" Sager Laptop, P4 2.8GhzHT 800Mhz bus, 1GB DDR400 Ram, Mandriva LE 2005, ATI Radeon Mobility 9600PRO 128MB AGP, 80GB HD, DVD/CDRW combo, it has a Synaptics touchpad and three "quick-lauch" buttons, Senoa PCMCIA 802.11b High Power (250mW) Wireless Adapter, 1280x1024 resolution using KDE, ART Optical USB Laptop Mouse, also connecting wirelessly through a Linksys wireless router to a WinXPPro machine's USB external drive with SAMBA to access my music files. The sound does "LOOP" for a second then all locks up. If you need more info or a more detailed list of specifications, just let me know.

  3. Phantom,

I tried MANY distros and could not get my ATI to work. I finally got it working, and after all the different methods and experiments I think it all boiled down to making sure I had the RIGHT source for my kernel also. I tried for over two months to get it working; and finally got the RIGHT source for my MDKLE2005 and voila...it worked.

  4. AKO+ is the us army's global email client. It runs on Microsoft Outlook Web Access so of course Outlook works fine. It has a place to input your authentication and SSL socket numbers.

Evolution does not have these settings; just authenticate and use SSL. No socket solution (hopefully the same?). My ultimate problem I guess is picking a authentication type. I don't know what to choose and nothing listed seems to work.

I could set the mail client up as IMAP receiving mail, but SMTP is only supported for sending it seems and then there is that authentication problem.

Anyone got any ideas? One could go to https://mail.jdp.us.army.mil to see the login and FAQ links.

  5. Does anyone here use AKO+ as their email service? If you don't know what it is..then I guess not. Someone does surely. I cannot get the Evolution email client to send mail. It will retrieve mail fine. The send mail needs to be SSL (which I can set), but I don't know what kind of authentication to use. I have tried all the options given and I cannot get it to work.

Has anyone gotten Evolution to work with AKO+?

  6. I too cannot get my screensavers to activate automatically. I am running MDK 10.2 and KDE 3.3 on a P4 laptop. I have changed the settings a MILLION times and still the desktop stays up after hours unattended. I have done and checked everything listed above, still nothing. Can someone please explain what is up?

I have updated with urpmi, there are no updates available. I have the GL screensavers loaded also, but they will not activate after a preset time either. NONE of the screensavers on my computer will activate automatically after a preset period of time! I have tried it with ACPI on and off.

    Please Help Us.

  7. Well,

Thanks to all. I finally got 3d working and installed America's Army 2.3. This was my only reason for worrying about 3d support with my ATI card. The AA install went fine. I fired up armyops and this is what I get:

    [daniel@Mondo ~]$ armyops

    Missing symbols - aborting.

    History:

    Exiting due to error

What is this? If anyone has an idea what the above means or has had the same problem running America's Army, please let me know.

I"m going to re-download the .run file and try and re-install it.

  8. Just did a quick search...followed the advice of one VERY bright person (and guess who that person would be IANW1974 :D )

Used Configure My Desktop and low and behold....system sound was not enabled!!! Works great. Now I'm off to redownload America's Army for Linux so my son and I can play tonight. He on the WinXP server and me on the Linux laptop; how cool is that?!!

  9. Of course I've lost sound now :D But, hey that's happened to a lot of people according to these forums. I'll do some research and get it fixed; the sound is soooo secondary to the 3d for me.

  10. [root@Mondo ~]# glxgears

    Loading required GL library /usr/lib/libGL.so.1

    10221 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2044.200 FPS

    12619 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2523.800 FPS

    12616 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2523.200 FPS

    12618 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2523.600 FPS

    12614 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2522.800 FPS

    12610 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2522.000 FPS

    :banana::banana::banana::banana::headbang::headbang::headbang:

flg_glxgears was WORKING!!!! It was giving about 460-500fps until it locked up my system. Should I run flgrxconfig again and turn off that AGP Page locking option. It talked about selecting [n] if fgl_glxgears gave me a problem.

    **new**

    [root@Mondo ~]# fgl_glxgears

    Loading required GL library /usr/lib/libGL.so.1

    2126 frames in 5.0 seconds = 425.200 FPS

    2628 frames in 5.0 seconds = 525.600 FPS

    2509 frames in 5.0 seconds = 501.800 FPS

    2512 frames in 5.0 seconds = 502.400 FPS

    2502 frames in 5.0 seconds = 500.400 FPS

    IANW1974 :thanks:

  11. Which do you think is better: the ATI .rpm or the ATI Installer?

I have previously tried both, to no avail. Neither one changed anything. I will try once more. :P

P.S. And i should be getting the .rpm for Xorg 6.8, right?

P.P.S. I am doing all this logged in as root, not the normal account. I haven't even logged in as the user since reinstalling. That's okay for now right; until I get the 3d running?

  12. [root@Mondo ~]# glxinfo | grep direct

    Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2

    direct rendering: No

OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect

The Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection and Load "dri" # direct rendering are in the xorg.conf.

  13. Whats your fps now?  I'm assuming a lot faster?

    Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2

    1994 frames in 5.0 seconds = 398.800 FPS

    2240 frames in 5.0 seconds = 448.000 FPS

    2100 frames in 5.0 seconds = 420.000 FPS

    3220 frames in 5.0 seconds = 644.000 FPS

    3780 frames in 5.0 seconds = 756.000 FPS

    3780 frames in 5.0 seconds = 756.000 FPS

    3920 frames in 5.0 seconds = 784.000 FPS

    3780 frames in 5.0 seconds = 756.000 FPS

    3360 frames in 5.0 seconds = 672.000 FPS

so about the same, maybe a little faster? I'm still not getting ANYTHING close to what others are getting with glxgears. When I do glxinfo it still says, "direct rendering: No" It's starting to look like the same old story, I wish I understood all this. Let me know if I need to post any outputs from glxinfo, xorg.conf, etc..

  14. I usually put it at the bottom of the file.

If you're having problems locating these, suggest adding the urpmi repositories:

    http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi

I add all of them, make sure you have 2005 selected, and go through and add.  If you have a slow internet connection, use the compressed index option.  Then have another search for mesa.  As this is missing, you'll not be able to run glxgears any faster than it seems to be running at present.

I put the SectionDRI right after the first Section.

I did the easyurpmi and updated EVERYTHING :D

I am on a 3MB broadband connection, so it didn't take long

    By the IANW1974..you rock!!! :drum:

  15. Looks like I replied a few minutes after you.  Can you confirm what mesa items you have?

    I have the following:

    libMesaGL1-5.0.2-9mdk

    libMesaGLU1-5.0.2-9mdk

    libMesaglut3-5.0.2-9mdk

    Mesa-5.0.2-9mdk

    Mesa-demos-5.0.2-9mdk

    xmms-mesa-1.2.10-16mdk

  16. Now have Mesa... files installed. (also included a xmms.mesa... file).

    glxgears now gives the following:

    Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2

    1994 frames in 5.0 seconds = 398.800 FPS

    2100 frames in 5.0 seconds = 420.000 FPS

    2380 frames in 5.0 seconds = 476.000 FPS

    2520 frames in 5.0 seconds = 504.000 FPS

    2380 frames in 5.0 seconds = 476.000 FPS

Note the new first line. How can I check if OpenGL is working with direct rendering without the fgl_glxgears command?

    WoMBaT

  17. Oh yeah,

Does it matter where I put the following in the xorg.conf (top or bottom)?:

    Section "DRI"

    Mode 0666

    EndSection

Also, I have the following installed:

    libMesaGLU1-5.0.2-9mdk

    libMesaglut3-5.0.2-9mdk

But nothing that begins with Mesa....

  18. Okay all,

I have re-installed a new fresh install of LE2005. I have not installed any ATI drivers yet.

    glxgears gives:

    1874 frames in 5.0 seconds = 374.800 FPS

    2100 frames in 5.0 seconds = 420.000 FPS

    2100 frames in 5.0 seconds = 420.000 FPS

    2240 frames in 5.0 seconds = 448.000 FPS

    2100 frames in 5.0 seconds = 420.000 FPS

    fgl_glxgears gives:

    bash: fgl_glxgears: command not found

so this is a GOOD thing so far...no fgl drivers, right?

I have done urpmi --auto select (used the easyurpmi to set it up) and have updated my kernel source (which is 2.6.11-6mdksmp).

Ianw1974, If I DO NOT use ATI drivers; what do I use and how do I set it up?

I have backed up my xorg.conf as xorg.conf.dan just in case and will not lose it this time like last time.

Everyone else, what should be my next step-by-step thing to do (slowly now, I'm a noobie) to get the drivers working. I am going to try IANW1974's idea of NOT using the ATI drivers, so I really need some schooling on what to use and how to use it. :help:

  19. Thank you, ianw1974. I will try this tonight when I leave the office.

I was thinking of starting over completely with a new install since I have tried several different strategies and methods to get this to work. I know for a fact that my xorg.conf is nowhere near the original and even my backup one is not the original either.

I have tried to use the "configure my computer" applet from the menu to install the kernel source but it is never an option. I need the kernel source that has SMP as that is apparently the one I am using (uname -r).

  20. I tried the above and still can't get my ATI Radeon 9600Pro Mobility (M10) to run 3d. There are several whinning posts here from me asking for assistance. :( I have tried several "solutions" that worked for others and still no 3d. So good luck with getting the drivers to work.

BTW, I did try the ATI Installer, and the RPM. They both ran fine with no errors, but still nothing in fgl_glxgears except an error. No Direct Rendering.
