bvc..that is one NICE looking desktop theme.
I like it, except for the window bars. One can't see where the title bar ends and the menu bar begins. Some may desire this, but I like a clear definition between the two. This is what I wish I knew how to change with mine. They are gray instead of black but same idea.
On a different note: What is that media player in your screenshot?

Great!!
I'm not the only noob that posted this question. Ilia, I started the last "discussion" on Gnome v. KDE; it devolved quite quickly into "who's desktop is better." So, just to join the crowd...I am a noob (going on three months with linux) and have for the last week and a half or so been using Gnome instead of KDE. I must say that I like it better.

WoMBaT, if you open Ash/gtk-2.0/Panel/panel-bg.png in the gimp and scale it up to your size panel it'll look right.
I walked away from that blue thing......some other day maybe
I fixed the shaded states and added maximized state to crystal dlb metacity, and fix the terminal errors, progressbar and menuline.
Where is the Ash directory? I can't find it.

Needless to say though that bleeding edge Gnome isn't Mandy's cup of tea...
Yeah, that's kinda the general opinion. I'll just stick with the 2.8. At least my laptop is stable most of the time. I still get lock-ups when trying to play Enemy Territory or if I let fgl_glxgears run for more than a few moments. Must be some OpenGL thing. Once I can figure that out this box will be perfect.

Does anyone think they will release an update for us LE2005 users without having to use "Cooker" media sources? Isn't Cooker stuff like beta/unstable? I"m afraid of adding the media sources to urpmi and then having my whole system go to hell. I tried something similar a while back with KDE 3.4 and ended up having to reformat and reload my system. (can you say NOOB?)

Worked GREAT! The fonts do look better, however I don't see a need to change the pt size from current to 8pt.
again, thank you ianw1974

urpmi just says gnome packages are already installed. Does anyone have 2.10 running on LE2005? Can you tell me how? Should I worry about it at all?

In what instance would you need 100dpi fonts? What is the use or benefit of them? I run MDK2005 on a laptop with a 17"LCD using 1280x1024 resolution. Should I use 100dpi fonts?

WOW! Thanks for all the opinions. I think I will stay with Gnome for a while. I do like it better so far compared to my month with KDE.

Okay, all you experienced linux users. What are the pros and cons of using either Gnome or KDE? I have fiddled with each and trying to decide which to use. I do like the gDesklets in Gnome...but am trying to rid myself of panels and use something like kxdocker to mimic OSX. This very well may diverge into a "show me your desktop" topic...so sorry in advance.
Also...how do you take a screenshot of your desktop?

My son spilt rootbeer on my laptop keyboard last night!!
It knocked out most of the keys on the left side of the board. I managed to take it off the laptop and soak the keyboard in alcohol. After drying, the board works fine except for the number five key. Any ideas on how to repair/clean/replace?

try the following:
install via easyurpmi the "kdelibs-devel" and "kdebase-devel" rpm packages, then retry the build process. it can be either due to some missing devel packages or some missing manually added prefixes, and after adding this package, we will know more... if it is manually added prefixes, then the developer should have written somewhere which prefixes are expected for the buld process.
anyway, good luck for now. :)
Yep, that worked...thanks :D

Here's what I get when trying to configure kbfx:
checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!
Same message as Karamba and StyleClock. I'm trying to change my desktop with a better clock and stuff. Nothing I download installs. I got the default Karamba to work and gave up installing the newest build of it.
-
I get the same thing when I use:
./configure --prefix=/usr/kde
so that I guess is not a KDE Prefix, huh? I thought I saw something somewhere in a readme for a different program (I can't remember what or where) that used something like ~$KDE/ or something like that.
-
No matter what I try to use ./configure for I get this message. What is a KDE Prefix? Do I just use /usr/kde? Is it the same for everybody? The install / readme says simply to
./configure
make
make install
That's it.

I am trying to use ./configure with SuperKaramba-0.37-RC1 to install this version on Mandriva LE2005. The version that was installed by default and is present in the menu always errors out and tries to do some kind of backtrace.
The ./configure program runs and ends up with this after cd to the SuperKaramba-0.37-RC1 directory and entering ./configure:
checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!
What does that mean? How do I get past it? I seem to have similar problems (but not exact verbage) with ANY ./configure operation.
I do have the gcc and g++ libs installed (I installed ALL developer items)

Thank you crashdamage. So like I thought, mixing the -6 kernel with the -12 source will foul things up, huh?

Hello all,
I am currently running LE2005 which installed by default kernel 2.6.11-6mdksmp. I need to download the source files and now am faced with a problem. There are two versions of two different files and I don't know the difference between the two or which one to download.
The two files are kernel-source-2.6.11-6mdksmp (matches my kernel) and kernel-source-2.6.11-12mdksmp. There are also two "stripped" versions. Which one should I use? What is the -6 or -12 difference? Thank you for any info.

Sounds like a good deal. I don't know if Battlefield 2 might run on that video card. I remember someone is #musb saying that it wont run on anything lowe than a FX5900.
I run BF2 on my desktop in windows (yuck) with a 128MB nVidia FX5200 AGP. It runs great with medium settings. Of course that desktop has 3 Gigs of ram :D So that very well may make the difference. I'm looking to upgrade to the FX6600GT 256MB AGP. Anyone have any good experience with either Linux or Windows with that card? (Ultimately I am going to force my sons to use linux if I can sneek it into EVERY machine and not just my laptop )

I have obtained CD4 of the Club Edition for Mandriva 10.2. Can I add that somehow? I want to install whatever it has on it, but do not know how. No reason, just want to see what it installs. (hopefully KDE 3.4). Can this be added as an update source for my urpmi? There in the GUI is an "Add Custom" button and an "Add..." button. Which one and what would be the correct syntax for mount point, hdzlist etc...?
I thought I saw a post recently about doing this...but you can't search for anything with less than four letters Hence, no CD4 or CE or LE or any such. Is there a way to use the search with full sentences that contain two and three letter words?

I agree completely. Maybe I haven't tried it long enough? I just tinkered with it a few minutes (read: days)
