Hi, I now use Kaffeine to record my tv programs from my DVB card (hauppauge nova-t) and it produces .m2t files. Weird format can t find much about it, It is not in the wikipedia! Anyway, when using tovid to put it in .avi files to read on my dvd player, the sound and image are often not synchronised . Does anyone use a different transcoding program? Is it possible to ask kaffeine to use a different format? Cheers Stef

Hi, I bought an hauppauge win-tv nova T recently (2 weeks ago on ebay £ 16), it works Perfectly on Mandriva 2007, I had diificulties to start with but in fact a simple trick was missing. Hi, I carry-on my investigations into getting a dvb-t to work under Mandriva 2007. The card is a wintv nova-t from Hauppauge with an IR remote control. The chip on the card is from connexant and its id is cx2388x. When I start kdetv, the program detects the card and tries to find some channel with no success. Drakconf detects the card with brand and chip correctly recognised, but the IR remote appears in the keyboards (still with correct name). The card works under windows (Boooh!) and detects all the local channels from my local aerial (uk-Mendip). What I don t get is that I should have a device in /dev/dvb/ and I don t have this directory! HI! Yeah, I had loads of problems with Beryl on 2007 but since I ve installled it on my cooker partition, it is great. I have been able to do videos of my desktop on 3d using istanbul, a great piece of rpm which deals with 3d! To see the video rename "try.txt" by "try" and that should work! Stef :D

Thanks for keeping the thread going. I ahve o admit I gave up as I was in a rush to record some programs. I bought a win-tv nova as I saw it was fully supported by the kernel. Thanks for the tips, It s true that I am trying around a bit at the moment, I ll stick to Mandriva, I eventually managed to setup Beryl on my box with the new nvidia drivers and that really looks and work great. I ll have a go at Gentoo as it looks quite good, tried Suse or susedows shall I say, tried knoppix and other stuff but not yet PClinux os, It's my next one then! Stef

Hi, At the moment I have on my partitions : -MDV2006 updated by Kiosk -Cooker with main contrib debug and PLFs -2007 32Bits with main contrib updates form official srces, plfs, beryl. The 2006 is very stable and I will keep it this way. The cooker is cooker and therefore I don t mind if I have to repair it now and again. I would like to know: - Can I add thac and ze on my 2007 -Is it useful? -Will that make my system very unstable? -Is that as risky as cooker? I tried that it does not seem to make anything. On 2006 I have the device recognised as a tv-card but nothing much, at least the device is noticed and its light turns orange (good sign). If I start 2007 from cold device it is not detected (only in lsusb, not in drakconf) on the light stays off. If I boot in 2006, then reboot in 2007 (the device being warm) then it is detected by 2007. Conclusion, this can be used as a thermometer but so far no joy as a tv card! Stef

Hi there, I got myself a freecom usb stick digital tv receiver in order to record some programs rather thatn using the video, and to see how it works etc... toy for boy... Well, I eventually got a result with windfart but I had to use a different software than the one provided AND to plug my aerial in the wall (portable one not sufficient). Next of course I want it to work on my proper box : linux-box! Now I went to http://www.linuxtv.org/ where I found a firmware driver (dvb-usb-wt220u-fc03.fw is its little name). Now I don t have a clue what to do with it or how to make it work. I ve always had nvidia cards and to install them drivers with mdv do as follow : - go to easyurpmi website and follow instructions including plf stuff - go to drakconf and click on "look at and config hardware" -click on the video card and run config tools -he will tell u "there is a manufacturer driver available do u wanna use it?" say yes (er type it) -then log off and log back on and it should be done. Hi, After reading all that I decided that I could not bear having a decent video-card and not have the possibilty to enjoy a 3d-Desktop. So I did as follow : -Full install of 2007 from "free" version dvd and update via anorien's ftp server. I installed both KDE and Gnome. -Install NVIDIA drivers from PLF. -Log in as user in Gnome and setup the 3d desktop and compiz. -At the end of install of 3d desktop I am invited to logoff so I did. Back to the black screen at the command line and I typed (I was by default logged into root) startx. Then KDE starts with full 3d desktop and it works a treat. This is the only way I manage to have the 3d desktop working. If I exit and do startx under user I get the hanging mandriva icon for ever. If I reboot and start as kde same. If I start gnome as user same. It does not make any sense to me but makes me think that it might all be due to a permission problem? I just hope someone will read this and say "Eureka" this is a simple job... In the meantime I ll carry-on experimenting... Stef

Well I don t know why the legacy kernel, it is the one that 2007 has installed for me by default! The strange thing as well is whatever I do it installs the 32bits version instead of the 64bits! Anyway, I ve put the 2.6.17-5mdv as well as the source and it actually did solve some of my problems (thanx for that) but I still can't make lm_sensors work! Stef

Hi I ve got an Nvidia as well and the 3d desktop does not work despite a lot of patience. I have tried it on other machines, it seems that it works only with ati GFX cards and that we are waiting for the serie 9xxx drivers from nvidia to solve this problem. Stef

I voted Good at best because I had quite a lot of problems so far that a newbie would not have bee able to overcome therefore I think it is still a development release. 2006 updated with kiosk gives me perfect results first time. Stef

For older kernels, make sure you have done 'modprobe i2c-proc'! Hi There, I will use Helmut's topic to ask mt few questions as I am feeling a bit down as well about Mandriva (Boooh Wooh), I even started downloading suse 10.1 remastered but am only contemplating. First, these are very basic questions, that s probably why i have not seen the answers so far. Like Helmut I had problems installing mdv 2007 on my new system. I upgraded recently to an Athlon 64 3500+ on an am2 mobo in order to see the difference between 32bits and 64bits architectures. So I wached a DVD from linux magazine in (UK version) and booted. First it would not work until I did the magical Linux noapic nolapic boot tweak. Then it would not pick up my mouse version (Microsoft basic wheely thing). I solved all that from the cmd line and drakconf. From there onwards I used easy urpmi, picking my sources as x86_64, and then hell broke loose, starting with my printer not working and all the rest... Then as soon as I wanted to update I had some messages, uncompatible architecture business! The version of DVD I have installed the 32bits version and not the 64bits and I was trying to install the 64bits updates! So, the questions : 1- How can I force the 64 Bits install AND still use the noapic nolapic tweak? 2- Is my processor a i686, or a x86_64 and which update sources shall I use? 3- Once KDE is running how do I know which architecture of software was installed?arch tell me i686 but I think that is only the type of cpu, not the mdv version. I know this is very basic stuff but I can t find the answers. I found wikipedia a bit vague on the subject. So in the meantime I have my 32bits version on mdv 2007 installed on my main partition and that works well, apart froma couple of crashes which might be hardware based. I am ashamed to say that winfartXP did install well and my games are running fine (in 32 bits). Well that's it.
