  2. To change the name: Edit the lilo.conf file and change what's in the label= parts. No spaces. You can delete the other entries if you want, it would be better to comment them out, though. Just put a # at the begining of each line. Make sure you get all of them, though; and make sure you re-run lilo once you make the changes.
  3. From what I can see, everything looks ok in your lilo.conf file. FYI, changing the permissions on this file is a bad idea. It's better to edit the file as root if you need to. Open a terminal, type 'su' (no quotes) and hit enter You will be prompted to enter the root password, enter it and press enter (the cursor will not move) then type something like 'kwrite /etc/lilo.conf' (no quotes, assuming you're in KDE) After you make any changes to this file, save it. Then in a console as root you need to type one of the following commands: lilo lilo -v and hit enter. This will make lilo process the changes. It looks to me, though that everything is just fine in that file. the options for 'linux', 'linux-i686-up-4GB' and others will take you to Mandrake. The entry for 'windows' will boot to XP. I'm guessing the 'windows2' entry is a separate fat32 partition.
  4. The [FAILED] message you get with eth0 isn't something you really need to worry about if it still works. I get that message on every boot, but everything still works.
  5. That's just fine. That part is more geared toward if you're upgrading java, instead of installing it. Continue on as normal.
  6. That javascript error made me think of something... Do you have java installed? If not, that very well could be your problem with the routers config page. We have a very excellent java FAQ here in our FAQs section. This one was compiled by me using 2 very well written FAQs by DOlson and M0ttS. Check it out, follow it as best as you can. There will be places that you have to substitute the newer version for the one in the FAQ, but it should work for you. Give that a try and see if it helps you out. Hopefully it does, but if not I'll be around later tonight (after fireworks with my girlfriend and her son) so I can help you out more.
  7. Just an FYI to everyone out there; I'm helping Luis101 through this on AIM. We're setting up the router as we speak.

    Xscreensaver

That should disable it. Maybe there isn't a way to make xscreensaver start with the lock applet.

    Xscreensaver

You can add the lock/logout buttons to kicker. Pressing the lock button will blank the screen immediately, and you have to have a password to get back to your desktop. I think it's rt-click on kicker -> add -> applet -> lock/logout
  10. Yes, I knew that; but I never had the right kernel-source version to begin with. From the time I updated to the 2.6.6 kernel, but the nvidia driver (5328) installed anyway. Now I can't get any drivers to install. Even if I could find a tar.gz of the Mandrake source, that would be helpful.

    Xscreensaver

The "Blank After" option enables your screensaver after x minutes of inactivity
  12. no go for me :( Now I can't get any of the nvidia drivers installed, either.... Anyone know where I can get a kernel-source rpm for 2.6.6-2? Right now, my kernel-source doesn't match my installed kernel (my one stupid number...kernel == 2.6.6-2, source == 2.6.6-1); and that's a pain in my ass. I've looked at rpmfind, and there isn't one in cooker anymore, only 2.6.7, which won't install at all for me.
  13. Well, if you have all of the rpm's already, cd to the correct directory and (as root) type: rpm -Uvh *.rpm Alternatively, add a cooker 'main' source to urpmi and type: urpmi kdebase-3.2.3 and that will install all of the dependencies.

    Xscreensaver

afaik, it should be working always until you turn it off. That's how it is on my system.

The 'error' that you got is nothing serious. If you really want that package installed, type: urpmf librte-0.4.so.0 and install the RPM that it will give you. Other than that, it looks to me like everything installed just fine.

    Xscreensaver

Yes, there is a way. Disable the KDE screensavers in the KDE Control Panel, then start xscreensaver with this command: xscreensaver-command -prefs might be --prefs, it will tell you if it's wrong. From there, configure your xscreensaver and it will work instead of KDE's screensaver program (which is crap, imo)

The normal xine interface (at least the one I use) is xine-ui Of those 2 options, you probably want the first; though it may install both. urpmi is kinda like that.

Easiest way (and probably the way you want to go), is to type urpmi xine -a That will install all of them. The only ones you will really need are the ones that are listed in the link I gave you a few posts back.
  19. The post you are referring to is probably SI-01 in our FAQ Forum

Xine and mplayer are both media players. Xine is the best of the bunch imo. Give xine a try, it might play your vcd's better than totem will. I know Gowator didn't intend his post to come across as harsh or condecending. We're all trying to help people that come over from Windows to Mandrake (or any flavor of Linux) to get out of the "Windows mindset" of having to reboot for everything. I reboot about once a month, seriously. And I don't even have to do it that often. But, as you did point out, rebooting will clear your urpmi database; but there are other ways of doing that too.

    Gnome 2.6

Another alternative is to add a cooker 'main' source to urpmi and get it that way. Current cooker version of Gnome is 2.6.2 (unless it changed again today :P )
  22. Welcome to our board! There are a couple of different ways to install software. The most common answer you will get for Mandrake is urpmi. Luckily, iphitus and I have written an FAQ on urpmi that you can find here that I think will answer most of your software installation questions. Check it out, add some sources and install away. Everything that you need to play dvd's is on the plf urpmi source. Once you read through that FAQ and add your plf source, use this command: urpmi dvd -a to install all of it. You won't need everything, but that will ensure that you get everything (and then some) that you need.
  23. Great! Thanks! That worked perfectly. I didn't think it would actually be in there, since there are no image protocols listed; but it works great.

There are a few other dvd plugins that you might need, and that should help you be able to play your cdr as well. Might want to try libvcd0. Check out this post from DragonMage: http://www.MandrakeUsers.org/index.php?sho...indpost&p=12726 Just be aware that most, if not all of those are going to be newer versions. That post was made when 9.0 was new. Those are the things I needed to play dvd's/vcd's on my laptop a while back.
  25. That is strange. What version of wine are you installing? Is it one from the Mandrake cd's or is it the one from winehq?
