  1. Fresh news Mandriva 2007 64 bit edition is delayed slightly. http://club.mandriva.com/xwiki/bin/view/Ma...007ReleasePlans
  2. Is that a typo? 1000$ for an hour? Or it's not US $ ? What is your job?
  3. If you want to compare it with RedHat then compare it with the corporate products. The mandriva version we use is meant to be a desktop first IMHO. If you wanna use it as workstation, you can, your choice. But if it fails you can only blame yourself. If you want to compare it to something then compare it with Fedora. How long a Fedora release is supported? AFAIK 2 months after a new release came out. This case Mandriva is better. The Mandriva corporate products can have support up to 5 years. Yes RedHat still wins but it sounds much better, isn't it.
  4. Maybe cooker is frozen already, but they have to test the ISOs.
  5. The first release candidate of Mozilla Firefox is out. Comes with a lot of new features (new theme, javascript 1.7, phishing protection, spell checking etc). You can download it from here after you've read the installation notes and the list of known issues. source: hup.hu
  6. The current ETA is oct. 2 http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/MandrivaLinux2007
  7. You are a newbie and you already try to compile from source? I never understand why newbies want to take the hard way. Linux's memory usage is greatly influenced by the graphical enviroment you are using. If you are using a bloated Desktop Enviroment then your computer will be slow. But guess what you can use another one. Good luck to your Win98.
  8. A year later than planned but the first phase of linux migration in Munich has started. source : ZDnet
  9. What do you mean it's not working in FF. If you install the Windows version of Firefox in wine and then the Flash player then it should work.
  10. According to Gael it's just a feature not the whole concept.
  11. Ulteo is still not out but at least we can read a short interview with the founder here. source: Mandriva club forum
  12. I use Azureus too, but you have to open up a port on your firewall for any rorrent clients.
  13. Nvidia has released a new beta video driver (1.0-9625) which has an experimental GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap support. It's a long waited feature which makes it possible to to use nvidia cards with AIGLX. Here's a howto to use it. Other features of the new driver: It can be downloaded from here. source: hup.hu
  14. If it asks for password then try guest, the same as your user name.
  15. Tried without the GUI (drakfirewall) this time. After I booted in and started the internet connection I launched Azureus and tryed the NAT\Firewall test in the Tools menu. It gave a NAT error on the port which is setup for Azureus as I expected. So I stopped shorewall service shorewall stop Then I tryed the NAT\Firewall test again. Still Nat error. Then I restarted shorewall service shorewall restart Tryed the NAT\Firewall test again and it's OK. What the hell... Should I modify IPtables somehow?
  16. Remember the old days when every game was a unique experience? Have enough of FPS/TPS/RTS etc ? Search no more. There is still (at least) one company which knows how to make small but addictive games. Those who never heard the name Introversion may heard about their earlier games Uplink and Darwinia. Both have unique story and addictive playing experience. Their new game is almost out. The official release date is 29th of September. You can preorder on thier site for $17.50 or €14 or 10 pounds. These prices are only for the preorder though. Introversion is one of the few game developer studios which supports Linux and makes their game run natively on Linux. The game is strategy about being the the one who looses the lesser in a thermonuclear war. The game is called Defcon. There is no demo yet but you can watch two videos on their video site. According to the Defcon forum the Linux binary won't make it to the CD but it will be freely downloadable after the release. There was no specified time when will it be available though.
  17. No I don't have enough fantasy to think about things like this. Is there an international Talk-Like-A-Klingon-Day ?
  18. Does it mean that I have to stop and restart shorewall everytime? This is what I want to avoid, restart it everytime I boot in. I forgot to mention but this is PCLinuxOS 0.93
  19. I have to open up a port for Azureus, which I do using drakfirewall. But every time I reboot shorewall forgets it and I have to use drakfirewall again. I've read the shorewall howto here and checked the /etc/shorewall/rules file and it seems correct to me. This is the relevant part: Starting drakfirewall from the console and applying settings prints out this: Any ideas?
  20. Another effect: if you have multiple windows on a desktop put your mouse cursor to the upper right corner. The windows will tile and you can choose from them easely. Adamw wrote that it's the same as Exposé in Mac but I can't confirm since I never used a Mac. Here's something more : Tip for finding Compiz shortcuts.
  21. IIRC = If I Remember Correctly If it's installed but has a different name try using command completition (hit the TAB key after you typed gnome- that will list all the commands beginning with gnome).
  22. Try starting gnome-panel IIRC this is how it's called.
  23. Cap'n Linus raised the Jolly Roger once again yesterday and released the new kernel 2.6.18. Yarrr! He ordered all salty seadogs, mateys, land-lubbers, etc, to test it. Mateys, you can see a short list of the changes here. Arrr! For those who don't understand why I wrote like this, yesterday was international Talk Like a Pirate Day.
  24. The 3D window manager which has probably the biggest hype/interest in the Linux world, Compiz, has forked. Among the reasons are the poor communications with Novell's Compiz developer David Raveman; and the former patchset, which was compiz-quinnstorm (which is in Ubuntu), has changed too much from the original Compiz. It's easier to maintain their own fork now, they say. The project is called Beryl. For more details you can read their short and a longer announcement. source: hup.hu
  25. The windowmanager which does these effects is called compiz. There should be a setup program in the menu for that, at least there was one on the live CDs. It's called something like gset-compiz.
