Hi! My soundcard is ati IXP400. I have disabled alsa daemon, but it keeps getting on again by itself everytime I do something that makes sound. Have to try what happens if I get myself out of audiogroup. What I know is that when shutting down, it stops when trying to shutdown alsaconf and that's why I think alsa is the problem. Maybe it's my soundcard or maybe it's just me, but I know that it's fu***ng annoying. -jd

I promised to tell here if halt -p stops working, well, it did. Halt -p worked about 15 times and after that I've been trying to find any solution to this annoying problem and there has been only one thing to do to get my machine to shutdown. I know now this problem is somehow related to alsa. If I disable all sounds and do nothing between login and logout then the machine goes down as it's supposed. So alsa is the problem, does anyone know any solution? Can't uninstall alsa - it'll uninstall allmost whole KDE and thats not what I want. Oh, ofcourse there is an another way to shutdown the machine - just by pressing the powerbutton! thanks! -j.d.

Hi again. This is little summary of what I have done with this shutdown problem. First, booted with nolapic - shutdown worked fine for about ten times second, booted with noapic nolapic - shutdown worked for few times third, 'init 0' - helped for few times and after that I've tried as many commands that I've found so far and now for three times I've used 'halt -p' and everything goes down goodly. If I try just 'halt' that wont shut the machine down but if there is that '-p' it does the trick. At least it has done that for three times now and I can just hope it keeps working for ever. I'll tell here if 'halt -p' stops working too... -j.d.

Hi again! Now I can shutdown my machine, but not the way that I'm used to... If I open a console for root and then give it 'init 0' the shutdown happens so that it's supposed to happen. This brings a question to my mind - is it possible that somehow the 'halt'-command thats installed in my system is somehow corrupted? Just wondering... -j.d.

First thing after installation I did was removing KAT. Dbus version is 0.23.4-5 and harddrake daemon is running. Hi again. As it often happens: I was too happy too soon. Shutdown worked as it is supposed to work about 10 times and then something happened and now it stops after that messagebus thing again. I did a reinstall to see if that helps but no, the problem is and seems to stay there. Any ideas? One thing I forgot to mention in my first post is that sometimes when I logout the screen goes black with white stripes and everything just hangs there. I don't know if that has anything to do with that shutdown thing but if it does now you all know about that too. hi! Don't know what made the trick - maybe nolapic or that I enabled couple of things in bios. I have a tiny(?) problem with my new laptop. When shutting down mandriva 2006.0 (64bit) everything goes just fine until the machine freezes after the line "shutting down system messagebus [ok]" (freely translated from finnish - hopely right...). Where should I look to find out what's causing this? -j.d.

Hi again! Hmm... I just remembered that I have two soundcards in my computer... Tried the other one, that I really don't use, just haven't taken it of the computer... And what happens is that I can hear the flash sounds via that card. Maybe if I take that card of my sound problem is gone. Or what do you think? There seems not to be any errormessages. I'm not sure but something funny there is, it seems that my system is trying to acces my printer everytime I start firefox.

HI. I did reinstall firefox 1.5 with a new profile after someone told me that the old profile could be the reason of this soundproblem but this did not make any change. It's no matter if there some else programs using soundsystem or not - still can't hear flashsounds.

Hi! I have firefox 1.5 installed on my mandriva 2006 free with kde 3.5 and something is wrong with sounds in firefox. I can hear sounds in javagames when playing but when watching flash movies or playing flash games there is no sound. I have the latest macromedia flashplayer installed and when I go to http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/ it seems that everything is just as it's supposed to be. md5sums are ok and I burned with 4x speed. with these same cd's my friend installed mandi to a laptop and everything works fine there. And updates I have installed too. Tried to install firefox from rpm, but it's not working no matter what I do. Maybe I'll install again tomorrow and if this doesn't start working I'll go back to 2005... If any ideas please let me know. Thanks.

Ok, I installed mandriva 2006 free yesterday and again today. There is a little problem (ok, it's a big problem ) can't use either firefox or thunderbird. When I try to launch thunderbird or firefox (those that comes with mandriva 2006) my whole computer gets messed up and all that helps is taking power of the computer. Then if I get rid of those that came with 2006 and download newer versions I can't get them working, from ksysguard I see that firefox is running, but it's not. What can I do? Oh, I'm using mozilla now and this works just fine. And just now, when I'm writing this I got an error message that says that kded server went down - second time I see this message today. Please help me, I don't know what to do. Thanks.

Hi! I upgraded my kde from 3.3 to 3.4.2 and now there is some problems. When I adjust so that my middle mousebutton opens terminal when klicked on the desktop, it opens terminal preferenses, not the terminal, but if I adjust it to open root terminal that works as it's supposed. Then the side image of the K-menu, that doesn't show no matter what I try. Ok, I don't want it to show, but it would be nice to know that it could be seen. Then the kicker... This is hard to explain and explaining this in english is allmost impossible, hope someone understands what I'm trying to tell... The kicker, when I have some window open, keeps it's size, but when there is nothing open the kicker starts to change it's size, there is pictures of that 'cause I think it helps you all to understand me a bit better. Can I make this to stop? It not a big thing but it's very annoing. Oh, then the klickety game, can't play it as a regular user, this is what I get: "[jd@~]$ klickety The KDE libraries are not designed to run with suid privileges" All the other games works fine, but not this. Where is the problem?

Hi! Had that same problem, but then I read my motherboardbook and there it was: three jumpers on the motherboard had to bee taken out to get the frontside audiojacks to work. Have you tried that? -janet
