  1. Hi again! I tried burning to DVD+rw and got just the same result as with -r(w). This dvd works, but md5sum isn't right. Maybe I just stop checking md5sums and save my nerves... :D -jd
  2. Yeah, thats what I thought it might be... :)
  3. I downloaded from two different mirrors, so it's not that... I used kget to download, next time I'll try wget. If there is a next time ever again... :) I'll try burning to DVD+R(W) and see how that goes. Tomorrow.
  4. I have tried burning to DVD-R and to DVD-RW, don't have any +R or +RW now. Maybe I'll go shopping and get one or two... I was thinking to do that anyway... Tomorrow. I'm burning slow 2x usually.
  5. I managed to download a dvd iso. It has the right md5sum and it didn't disappear anywhere after unsuccessful burning. Once again, when burning the dvd, at the end of the process I had to use the power button to turn off the computer. After that I downloaded nero for linux and with that burning went well until the end but still the dvd has wrong md5sum. Well, I decided to try that dvd anyhow to my man's computer (there was a tiny empty space) and installation was successful - mandriva is working as it's supposed to work. Or at least I don't see anything wrong there... Oh, it would be so nice to know what's going on with me and my computer and this one mandriva dvd... If you know, please let me know. :D And this I have to tell... I was thinking this thing and decided to download a DSL cd image. Burning that didn't cause any troubles and that cd has right md5sum - maybe there is something missing on my system or maybe my dvd burner isn't working so well...
  6. There where I'm going to install is no internet connection yet, so netinstall is not possible... I'll try one more time downloading and if that fails that's it - I give up and make my friend to wait until she gets internet connection open. :D
  7. I think that I'll try once more to make a working dvd. This was second time I tried - first time my internet connection disconnected and now burning the dvd went as it went... Maybe it's like they say - third time is a charm... I have never ever had so much troubles with iso-files (or any other download) than with this one. I can't believe this can be so hard. :) It all most feels that someone is trying to tell me something . I even made my father to try downloading (he has much faster connection that I have) the dvd, but he has some problems with internet connection too, and he couldn't get the dvd downloaded. He tried from four different mirrors and every time downloading stopped when about half of the dvd got downloaded... There is something in the air, I think... Thanks for both of you!
  8. It's not in the trash. And no, live cd isn't an option now. I have installed spring to a friends computer from a live cd and there is not too many programs... She has not a internet connection yet (it takes about in 6 weeks from now to open), so I can't add programs via urpmi for her system... well, now I have one broken dvd with many rpms I hope I can use (hopely they aren't broken), but still, it would have been so much easier to make a fresh install from a dvd. Sometimes I wish I could turn back time... It's not in any temp folder either...
  9. I'm not quite sure if this is right forum for this question, if not, someone will move this to the right place. :) I downloaded mandriva 2007.1 dvd iso. All went as supposed. Then I burned the DVD (with k3b) and problems came. My machine frosed at the end of burning and there was nothing to do but close the computer by pressing the power button. After rebooting I found that the mandriva iso-file has gone from the folder that I've put it. There is only a empty lost+found folder there now. Is there any way to recover that disappeared file? I tested the md5sum of that dvd that I burned and it's not the same that the md5sum of the .iso file, should it be? I really need that dvd today and I don't have time to download it again. Please tell me that there is something to do...
  10. Hi! I finally tried this and yes, it works! Thank you. -jd
  11. Yes, I know they are two separate projects. Here is what glxinfo | grep direct gives: Metisse - this is what I get when using metisse. 3d games aren't working. $ glxinfo | grep direct Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0". Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0" . Kde - this is what I get when using plain KDE. 3d games are working. $ glxinfo | grep direct direct rendering: Yes Compiz - this is what I get when using Compiz. 3d games are working, but not as good as in plain KDE. $ glxinfo | grep direct Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":93.0". direct rendering: No Beryl - this is what I get when using Beryl. 3d games are working, but not as good as in plain KDE. $ glxinfo | grep direct Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":93.0". direct rendering: No So, the problem with 3d games is only present when using Metisse. I can live without playing, but still it would be nice to know if there is something to do to make 3d games work in metisse too. :D
  12. 3d games do work when using compiz/metisse. And display power management works on compiz/metisse but not with metisse. I can live with these little things - I really don't need any 3d desktop things... :D
  13. Hi! I'm using mandriva 2007.1 on hp compaq nx6125 laptop. I have a ati graphigs card, this is what mcc says about it: Radeon XPRESS 200M 5955 (PCIE). Found from hp's site that card is ATI Mobility Radeon X300. Both Beryl and Compiz are working quite well, both are a bit slow and beryl hangs up quite easily. When using Metisse there is problems that I can't solve myself. When using metisse 3d games like ppracer aren't working, I can open the game, but it runs so slow that it runs if you don't have 3d at all. Then there is no gamma-correction or power management for my display when using metisse - in compiz and beryl both are there. When I look to my desktop properties (I think it's that in english...) at the display tab there is text that says that I need a RANDR extension. When I look to installed software I see there is xrandr and libxrandr2 installed. When using metisse glxgears gives me this: $ glxgears Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":1.0". Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual Is it possible to make 3d games to work on metisse and how can I get displays power management to work? Or should I just stop using metisse if I wanna play? This is not any big problem but it would be nice to know if there is anyway to solve this... I put here my xorg.conf in case of it would tell you something... # File generated by XFdrake (rev 142098) # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the xorg.conf man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "Files" # font server independent of the X server to render fonts. 14. Hi! I have a HP nx6125 laptop. I'm using Mandriva 2007.1 spring and like it very much. Pretty much all that I need is working (even broadcom bcm4318 works perfectly, finally), but one little thing - integrated memory card reader supports 5 different card types, but doesn't read both my cards, only SD-card works. XD-card is one of those five types that this reader supports, but I can't get it working. Is there anything to do to get XD-card to work too? Card reader is Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller. Thanks. -jd
  15. Hi! Has anybody got jre working in 64 bit suse10.1? For me it works partly in konqueror but , say for example if I try to play bookworm in http://www.popcap.com, with firefox I get blank gamewindow, but with konqueror that game works. In konqueror some java games work and others don't. This is what I get from firefox if I look about:plugins in firefox Java Plug-in 1.5.0_06-b05 Tiedostonimi: libjavaplugin_oji.so Java Plug-in 1.5.0_06 MIME-tyyppi Kuvaus Päätteet Käytössä application/x-java-vm Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1 .1 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.1.1 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.1.2 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.1.3 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.2 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.2.1 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.2.2 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.3 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.3.1 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.4 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.4.1 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.4.2 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;version=1.5 Java Kyllä application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.5.0_06 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.1 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.1.1 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.1.2 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.1.3 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.2 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.2.1 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.2.2 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.3 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.3.1 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.4 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.4.1 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.4.2 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;version=1.5 Java Kyllä application/x-java-bean;jpi-version=1.5.0_06 Java Kyllä basicly, that says that all these java-things are in use (kyllä is finnish and means yes). So is there something missing? I know that in 32 bit version of suse 10.1 java works, but why not in 64 bit version, that's a mystery for me. Is there something to do or do I have to give up playing funny games? -j.d.
  16. Hi! Home at last... I went trough my notes about installing ati driver and here is what I've done: 1. Made a RPM of the ati-installer 2. Installed that RPM just made (at this point I had to install gcc) 3. Gave this command as root in runlevel 3 sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx 4. Gave this command as root in runlevel 3 fglrx-kernel-build.sh 5. Rebooted After these five steps the 3D acceleration started to work. About those gcc - packages I have gcc and libgcc installed. Hopely this helps even a little... -j.d.
  17. You could try to install gcc, I'm not sure if it was libgcc that I had to install... Might have been... Have to check when I get home... And try if it helps to command as root this fglrx-kernel-build.sh if you haven't done that yet. -j.d.
  18. Well, didn't notice that there was a new post from you... It happened to me too, couldn't not get 3D working from Yast/sax2... I edited my last post, but I'll copy it here: Just for sure: did you make right rpm from the installer SuSE/SUSE101-IA32 or SuSE/SUSE101-AMD64 ??? And I think I did that fglrx-kernel-build.sh - thing too... And I started to think that if there is something wrong with the 32 bit installer (assuming you use that one. I'm using 64 bit one...)... I think I had to install GCC too at some point during the ati installation, but I'm not sure... I'm not using english version suse too, I'm trying to translate from finnish to english... Hopely you'll understand... -j.d.
  19. Hi! Oh, I forgot to mention that it's not mentioned by name Sax2, I think you can find it from Hardware > Graphics Card and Monitor. Here is some screenshots of yast in opensuse; http://www.ffnn.nl/pages/reviews/linux/sus...screenshots.php I'm trying to find some more information, but I have noticed today that is surprising hard to find any ansvers when your using this winyouknowwhat and your linux waits for you at home.... -j.d.
  20. Hi! You could try only this sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx for me it did make the 3d-acceleration to work. Can you get Sax2 to work graphically from yast control center? From there I couldn't change to fglrx but you'll see if sax2 works at all... I'll check somethings when I'll get back home from work, but just now I can't say anything more that might help. Well, I'm at work and if this day goes how it has started then I have plenty of time to think... :D -j.d.
  21. Hi! Yes, uninstall first. And note that line on that HOWTO: You still need to configure the driver with SaX2. Details can be found in /usr/share/doc/packages/fglrx/README.SuSE. That's important to do what's on that file. I know 'cause I didn't do that at first... -jd.
  22. Hi! Try this: http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/ati-installer-HOWTO.html Worked for me. j.d
  23. Hi, I'll be waiting for Ulteo. Hopely it'll be great. Mandriva was the first Linux distro that I ever used, after that I've tried many, but I allways have returned to mandriva, I'll be missing mandriva a lot, but I can't keep using it after this. It's time for something new. Hopely ulteo comes soon. -j.d.
  24. hi. Well, I'll wait for the new kernel. Yeah, without sounds world (and linux) would be quite boring! Thanks for help! -jd
