Screen goes black when booting...

recently i installed mandriva 2006 on my Acer TravelMate 4654LMi but when i choose linux from the boot menu my screen went black...

 

i tried to install with acpi off too... i made different graphics configurations but the problem persists... my laptop is a new one, here are the specs:http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/specs.as...=1792264&stext=

 

someone please help me im very exited with linux cause im a newbie but theres always a problem...

At the bootloader prompt, hit escape and type "linux 3" on the command line. After booting to a command prompt, type "startx" and then tell us what errors it is saying. Your screen should fill with some text, go black, and then come back with an error.

 

The problem is going to be the video configuration for x, which is the windowing environment. You have an Intel GMA 900 video chip which should automatically be detected. Also, the screen resolution on a lap top may seem a bit odd. You should allow x to set itself to whatever it thinks it needs to do. (I have an Acer Aspire 3000)

i solved the problem typing "linux acpi=off" cause i tried the "linux 3" and my screen went black again...

 

but now my question is... i have to type linux acpi=off everytime i boot my computer???

 

and what i have to do to make the acpi work???

No... just pass the argument to the LILO/grub configuration file (say via MCC/boot).

For making ACPI work you could update your BIOS, if feasible (Acer is not terribly good at that- I know it cause I used to have a Travelmate 291 LMi).
