This not a great problem but one that irks me a bit and I'm sure that someone out there knows a way around it!

I cannot play CD's digitally as in M$oft. I hav'nt hooked up a CD to a soundcard for years because of that feature but I cannot find a way to do it in Mandrake 9.2.

Does anyone know how to make it happen??

Thanks for your brains!

There is a way to play cd digitally via xmms. This is the link to the tutorial

http://mandrakeusers.com/DOlson/tutorials/...digitalcdx.html

The steps should be similar even though when the tutorial is written, he is using older version of mandrake. You may need to search for the rpm for your version of mandrake yourself, however.

I'm curious, why don't you just plug in the cable? Every CD rom comes with one and every computer comes with one and frequently soundcards will come with them. If push realy comes to shove they only cost about $1.00

Frankly, when windows stopped using that litle cable to play directly, I was dissapointed. I liked the old CD player applette in Win95 WAY better.

I just looked into this the other day and my result was to install xmms 1.2.8 which has a new option to ¨digital extract audio¨ under the cd audio player config tab. I don´t have the cd audio cable connected either. I am using mandrake 9.1 but xmms 1.2.8 must be available for 9.2 somewhere.
