Guest jwt
Hi: I've got a networking issue. I have two computers an XP machine and a mandrake linux laptop(with modem fried from lightning) networked adhoc sharing the XP dialup connection. I acquired an older laptop running w2k which I added a Blitzz wireless card also buying a Blitzz access point. Connected it all together, all 3 machines see each other, but I can't get internet to the wireless laptop. I have the XP and Linux machines connected to the ethernet portson the AP. I tried connecting the XP comp to the internet port (for cable or dsl) and I can't see it from anywhere. What am I missing or did I buy the wrong hardware? I have a second Nic, could I put that in the XP (home) machine and route the Modem internet connection separately to this internet port? I have the 3 machines on the same subnet 192.168.1.xxx which is the one for the access point. Do I need to return the access point and wait for broadband or what? (sorry this isn't strictly a mandrake issue ) Jon
DragonMage
Well.. there are a few things we need to find out. 1. Since you say that the XP is the one having the internet connection, have you enable the internet sharing on XP? 2. Is it static IP or DHCP for all the machines? 3. Did you make the XP computer IP the default gateway for the rest of the machines?
Guest jwt
Yes, I have ICS working since I have the mandrake laptop working fine which is connected by wired lan going through the router (by the way that is what it is called, not "access point", is there a difference?). I'm using static IP and all computers see each other and their files. The gateway is the XP machine and is set such. No internet on the wireless connected laptop. I can ping the DNS server on it (this is the isp, right?) Jon

DragonMage
Do you have the internet working with the other 2 pc? I think the only thing I can think of is that your router doesn't send the DNS information to your wireless laptop. I see that you can ping the DNS server from the laptop but maybe not something like www.yahoo.com. Check whether you can connect to internet using numerical ip (ping www.yahoo.com from other computer to get the numerical ip, then connect from your wireless laptop to the numerical ip instead of www.yahoo.com for example).
