The only obtstacle is that I need to run an old application that uses DOS. Any suggestions how I can do this? Will it also work for my Windows applications? Gowator Posted November 5, 2003 Report Share Posted November 5, 2003 Well you have a few options... they depend mainly on $$$$ vs reliability and number of users. For $299 you can buy vmware. This will run virtual OS's inside of Linux. It is fantastic BUT 299!! Multiuser version (GX server are much more) YOu can try and run it via Wine.... depending on the apps they might or might not work but its a suck-it and see approach. For an enterprise you can run either a metaframe server $$$$$$$ with FREE client software or If you use Windows Advanced Server you can use the windows terminal emulator (which is a very cut down version of the citrix one) For lots of users you can 'webify' the app. If response time isn't critical. It is also about $150 I think. It literally runs windows better than windows runs windows. Of course dos would go along with it since you are actually running win98. Other than that it was great. You can also download a trial version that only works for a limited amount of time before you spend the money on it.
