jlc
I'm getting one of each of these at work from some other people to "PLAY" with and "keep", yep, given!!! Just curious, about CPU comparison. I know the 420 is coming w/ Dual P3 866Mhz, scsi & how much ram I don't know and the 620 is only coming w/ a Single ? something which I'll dig around and look for a second one. From what I can see on the net, these are the options for the 620: Intel 840 chipset (both have this chipset) good/bad thing with Linux? PIII 933 or 1000 MHz So it should be decent. Anyway, the question is: With Dual P3 866Mhz CPU's XEON's how much of a difference is that compared to a Single Athlon-XP 2000? If I compile "stuff" say either using MDK/Slack/Gentoo, how much of a difference will I see compared to a single P4 or Athlon CPU? I'm sure they will make nice server/test box's, but just courious about speed. The only dual proc systems I've ever used are Sun Hardware and that's like comparing Apple's with Oranges. 8) Besides, the price is right! "FREE" 420 http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/ws420...system_features 620 http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/ws620...system_features I'm really not all that up on Intel hardware and they are XEON CPU's so hope there decent, anyway the price is right and there throwing in a wireless gateway! Anyway, can't wait. I'm getting them Monday. 8) Oh yeah, I don't know if the video card is in them?? Or if it is only PCI option opposed to AGP, I have an extra Nvidia GF 2 mx400 (i think) at home, but if it is only pci, are there some decent pci cards pretty high on graphics, but not ugly in price? Remember, I'm cheap.

Don't know what to tell you, :( Anyway, what can you tell me about the dual XEON CPU's. Huh huh, got any comparison for me :?:
jlc
I'm thinking the 420 are just regular Intel 866's, don't think there XEON's but I believe that is the only option on the 620. What's the difference between XEON and <?> intel cpu's. xeon just more L1 or L2 cache or something like that?

I've alway's wanted a dual cpu for linux and now it landed in my lap!
spinynorman
Um. Those links both just bring you to a 'Welcome to Dell Support' page. I had the same problem. If you choose the 'Home and Home Office' link on the welcome page, it takes you to the 420 page and sets up a cookie which lets you go direct to the 620 page next time...
