Ixthusdan
I used urpmi to install all of the fixes, and then used rpm -Uvh (per mandrake instructions) to install the new kernel. lilo complains that the image is not present. The .img file size is much smaller than 2.4.22-10. lilo will only boot the 2.4.22-10 kernel in 9.2. Any clues as to what's up?
Guest kuchwas
I'd try again with rpm -ivh --force kernel-2.4.22-18. The -U flag to upgrade is not really what you are doing; you want -i to install a new kernel alongside the exiting 2.4.22-10. I actually have 8 kernels on this cooker box right now! Ixthusdan
I thought that mandrake instructed the Uvh switch combo, as well as using rpm rather than urpmi. But I am still curious as to why the .img file is so much smaller than the 2.4.22-10 kernel. I may download the rpm again to see if perhaps it was a bad download. Thanks for the idea. Ixthusdan
I did a new download and a re-install using the replacepkgs switch. But there is an error wth the .img file. lilo says it does not exist. Isn't there a way to generate the .img file on my box? I have the new sources installed already. bvc
mkinitrd --help mkinitrd <name.img> <kernel_version>
Ixthusdan
I am sooo dumb! I changed the name of my default boot in the kernel section, but not in the line that reads "default=xxxxx". So, nothing was changing until I made the default read "default=linux9.1" to match the other section. Not Mandrake's problem, my problem!
