ide-scsi (scsi emulation)

I get the following message from k3b:

"No support for ATAPI with cdrdao

You will not be able to use all your reading devices as copy sources since there is at least one not configured to use SCSI emulation and your system does not support ATAPI with cdrdao.

Solution: The best and recommended solution is to enable ide-scsi (SCSI emulation) for all writer devices. This way you won't have any problems."

I've got the following cd-burner:

ATAPI CD-RW 52X24

which is registered at /dev/scd0

how do I enable ide-scsi so that I can burn cds with cdrdao?

first, read through this link. it's chock full of helpful K3B info.....

neverending k3b thread

here's the short version on how to enable scsi emulation. but i still urge you to read through that thread.

make SURE that you have scsi emulation enabled correctly. here's how the lines in your lilo.conf should read, under the "append" section.........

(you need to be root to do all of this)

open lilo.conf with a text editor of your choice. it's in /etc/lilo.conf.

edit or add the following line under the "append" section

append="devfs=mount hdX=ide-scsi hdX=ide-scsi acpi=off"

(where the hdX should be the letter of YOUR corresponding cd drives.)

save the file.

after you edit lilo.conf, go to terminal, su to root, then type:

lilo -v

hit enter, then reboot for the changes to take effect.

You get the message because you have no reader as scsi, check chrisz's linked thread, and my site for the looks of my lilo.conf and fstab etc, so you can adapt yours to use ide-scsi on both your reader and writer.

If you have only one drive, the writer, don't bother, this is only to be able to make direct disc to disc copies.

Another remark: I set things up to be able to do direct copies, but in the end I prefer to copy to the hd first anyway, direct copying put a very high load on the system, and what if the cdreader has problems (dirty/scratched disc etc)...
